  1. Fred you raise a fair point. However, his conduct in the court has always been less than stellar. When someone conducts themself in the way Frye has, it is because they simply are a flamer or they have some deep seated insecurities.
  2. Good night all! Great win! Let’s kick some butt Tuesday night!! Great comments all. Loved reading them all.
  3. No problem not calling a time out, but to have a play where you have a player pounding the ball at half court until 8 seconds left( actually think it was more like 7.4) is coaching malpractice.
  4. I’m sure they practice it. But whatever they do has flat out failed. Graves sitting at half court pounding the ball until the 8 second mark just is poor play calling. You’ve got to go with no less than 12 seconds on the clock to deal with contingencies such as tonight where he was double teamed and consequently stopped the dribble thereby wasting valuable time before tossing it to Williams for a split second prayer.
  5. I’m happy with what I’ve seen from him in each game. It’s likely imo that he’ll end up being a mort important piece than rondo.
  6. Perhaps the coaches or Davonta read what I wrote. I’d love to work with him and Josh too with regard to his foot work in the post.
  7. And if you noticed his eyes were locked in the basket/his target well before his release as it was with his first two 3s in the game.
  8. I like him. He needs to play more regularly. Also think he will be an excellent outside shooter.
  9. HOLY SHEET!! I watched the first 16;30 of the game on the deuce. Left to watch a local college hoops game that went to OT. Got home about 10:40 and turned the dvr on. Had no idea what happened in game after I stopped watching. I even extended the DVR recording for 30 minutes. It got me through OT and Jayvon’s basket in the first few seconds of the second OT before the recording ended. So I had to check the score online only to find out we won by 6 in double OT. HUGE WIN!!!! Most salient observation is that coach has go back to or find a new drawing board for end of the game plays. He’s 0-3 now and didn’t get a shot on two of those occasions and a prayer at the buzzer tonight. No excuses there. Gotta be better.
  10. Jus flat out getting out worked, out hustled and embarrassed. Time for Whitesell to read them the f’ing riot act. Put the bottom of the bench. Do something Jim. These need to have a strong message sent!
  11. They will with all the wide open lay ups they’re getting. UB playing the matador defense so far.
  12. Graves needs to take a seat in the bench. Awful turnover. And when is the last time he hit a jumper off the dribble?
  13. This is eerily similar to our last game against these guys. Kent coming off three losses and us a couple wins. These games are many times decided on what is going on between the ears. Advantage Kent State so far
  14. The first 3 not only went in but it looked good. His release point was over his head rather than a cockeyed shot from the front of his face as it is most times. He needs to focus on his defense when he plays
  15. Mballa got lazy getting back on D and gave up easy transition bucket. No good!! The guys have yo pick up their intensity which is lacking! Getting beat on boards and in transition.
  16. Jordan off to a hot start. 8 pts 3-3 and 2-2 from 3. If you noticed on both 3s he was looking at locked in on his target. Keep watching this on his shots. Perhaps that’s the key to his foul shooting.
  17. Mballa makes everyone better on defense.
  18. Getting a top 4 seed would be superb for everyone involved this year! We need to recruit more shooters. And earning a top 4 seed and causing some damage in the MAC tourney would go a long way in helping the coaches' recruiting efforts.
  19. He still has to work on strengthening his hands. He gets his hands in a lot of balls both in rebounds and in the lane but gets it knocked of his hands too easily. But all in all he has boat loads of potential greatness.
  20. He gave a defensive and rebounding clinic tonight as he does most nights. He held Teague to four points. Another huge double double. And without him turning the tide around in the first half one could easily argue this would have been a loss tonight rather than a huge W. While that is all true, at least imo, what I’d like to highlight is his defense on screens. It is truly outstanding and likely the best I’ve ever seen from a UB player. Unlike his teammates who are often times in no man’s land when their man sets a screen, Josh jumps on top of the screen and stymies the play’s design by stopping the dribbler in his tracks thusly the opponents offense altogether. Secondly if his teammate doesn’t recover Josh is athletic and tall enough to defend and give the opponent fits. When his teammate does recover Josh despite being out beyond the top of the key on occasion is still able to recover and get back to guard his man down low. To see this in action is a thing of beauty. His screen defense is among the best in the country! Look for it in the games ahead. One non Josh related item. I thought I caught Jordan looking at the floor just prior to his release on a foul shot. It could explain why he’s such a poor free throw shooter. I was always taught to lock into to your target before shooting.
  21. Fair points. But you don’t address the elephant in the room. We do not have any natural shooters. Johnson got some nice wide open 3s that you must knock down. But way too many forced and rushed shots. Terrible decisions by both Graves and Johnson driving into lane forcing shots into defenders and taking rushed shots. Both have to be able to see teammates for kick outs when they drive rather than come hell or high water getting to hoop and taking shot regardless of how many defenders are on them. I’m about getting better. And these are recurring themes. If you have a lousy defensive team then some of that works. But when you play better teams it is a problem.
