  1. I agree on Alnutt being caught off guard with Oats leaving. Ironically it seemed like he was better equipped for the Mo hire than replacing Oats when Leipold leaving was in the offseason. Alnutt had all the time in the world for WBB, and I think he made a decent hire based on her resume. TBD if Burke works out here. It would be anybody's guess as to what would have happened if Lanier came here, but GSU hired him at roughly double the salary we're paying JW and now he's making $2 million a year at SMU. And yes, we should be competing for MAC Championships every year. My last points were not saying that we shouldn't be, but that we've had an unusual period of success that most other MAC schools do not see. I would love to build on that success but demanding MAC titles every year is going to turn us into Nebraska football and not Boise State football. There's calls to fire Mo when we're on the cusp of bowl eligibility for the 7th time in D1 history (and only 3rd time not under Lance Leipold).
  2. UB has been ranked in MBB and football in the last 5 years, and S16 for WBB. We, by far, have the most MBB success over the last decade in the conference and arguably had the most WBB success in the same timeframe. Downgrading non-football sports would mean go independent in football which will lose us more money. Nate Oats, the best MBB coach in recent history, was a high school teacher before he came here and was cheap on his first contract. Just because JW isn't working out doesn't mean that we can't get a good coach in, or more importantly that paying more money means you get a better coach. Just ask ASU, who is paying over $2 million for Bobby Hurley to go under .500 in conference and not win a NCAA tournament game in 6 opportunities. Have a couple mediocre to bad years and people act like the sky is falling. JW got UB to the MAC finals in 2021. Bowling Green hasn't won the MAC auto bid since 1968 Northern Illinois hasn't made the finals since 1981 The last time a MAC West team other than WMU won the finals was 2003 Things don't look good, but they could be WAY worse.
  3. In my opinion the Akron Zips were literally not even in the state so UB Bulls football would have only been able to play itself Cole Snyder vs Matt Myers with bum coach Mo coaching both teams then getting fired from losing team horns up let’s go Buffalo
  4. Probably easier logistically to play it with no fans in the field house than get UB's equipment packed up, logistics figured out, and everything moved to Rochester
  5. If that's true, which makes sense, we get the better end of this. UB-UA essentially counts as a win to get to Detroit, and we can still play the game if we need it to get to 6 wins and bowl eligibility. Also if there's already too many bowl eligible teams at the end of next weekend, the conference can decide to not play it since we already know they won't be able to get another MAC team in (see 2017).
  6. https://ubbulls.com/news/2022/11/19/akron-at-buffalo-football-game-postponed-indefinitely.aspx Tiebreaker Scenario Using Uneven Number of Games Tiebreaker Policy With a Bowling Green win over Ohio + Buffalo win over Kent State Bowling Green 6-2 (.750) Ohio 6-2 (.750) Buffalo 5-2 (.714) First tiebreaker: Head-to-Head record amongst tied teams All three teams split the head-to-head series during the regular season (1-1) Second tiebreaker: Winning percentage vs. ranked division opponents (top to bottom vs. East Division common opponents) Bowling Green, Buffalo and Ohio each defeated Miami (1.000) Bowling Green & Ohio lost to Kent State (.000), while Buffalo would have defeated Kent State (1.000) in this tiebreaker scenario. Buffalo wins tiebreaker and will advance to MAC Football Championship Game So the "top to bottom" thing was actually real and the division win percent doesn't mean anything. This benefits us, so I'm not complaining.
  7. I'm northeast of the stadium, but still in a similar snow band as UB and I got 2-3 inches overnight. The southern edge of the band is just north of UB currently. More of the thruway west of Buffalo is open, though the commercial vehicle ban is still in effect to the PA border. Google maps shows a mix of green and orange on Millersport and orange on the 990 and 290 west of Millersport. The I 86 to I 390 to I 90 West route is still clear. Since the storm shifted north, my guess is the narrative will be that since Amherst got more snow, Akron won't be able to make it. The reality is if Akron left early and was already here, they would have been able to make it across the street to UB today or tomorrow. I have zero confidence this game will be played and if the rumor of the conference telling Akron's equipment truck to turn around AFTER THEY ALREADY ARRIVED is true (without additional context), Alnutt needs to go off on conference leadership. Central Michigan and Western Michigan played in a snowstorm this week because the visiting team was already in Mt. Pleasant. Nobody is saying to risk lives and safety to play a football game (as we all remember Niagara's WBB team was stuck on the Thruway in Lackawanna for over 24 hours last apocalyptic snow storm), but rather that the planning of this was so botched that somebody needs to be held responsible. The forecast was always southtowns get an absurd amount of snow on Thursday and Friday, then the weaker band shifts north. There was always a route to get to Amherst that was clear for commercial vehicles, as evident by the equipment truck allegedly making it here and turning back to Akron.
  8. Has somebody from UB given Akron step-by-step driving directions so that they can ensure they'll be here? BRJACR75's route is still free of snow. Thruway is open east of the 190. Google maps says it will take 6 hours. I know the commissioner is an Ohio U grad but somebody should be able to explain how lake effect snow works to him. A good amount of what came down overnight here in Amherst has already melted. And snow removal in the stadium should be easy since we can just push the snow onto the track.
  9. Barely any snow up here in Amherst. Roads are open and clear. Play ball! The conference needs to come down hard on Akron if they can’t make it here. There was enough prior warning to leave a day or two early and avoid any possible travel issues. Just because their team has thrown in the towel for the rest of the year doesn’t mean they get to decide that for us. UAkron is in pretty a deep financial hole with declining enrollment and a struggle to stay relevant amongst its peer community colleges. If the MAC were to start threatening their revenue distribution, that could lead to results.
  10. Last affiliate member the MAC fucked over with dumb rules packed their bags and now the MAC dropped that sport because they don’t have enough members. MACCG implications are irrelevant if Ohio beats BG, so they get an out of that happens or we lose to Kent. But if Ohio loses they’re 6-2 and we’re 5-2 (pending Kent) and missing our cupcake Akron game but winning the tiebreaker. No matter what you do it isn’t going to be fair…my inclination is they give it to BG because 6-2 is better than 5-2.
  11. UNIVERSITY OF AKRON DRIVERS: DO NOT drive into a lake effect snowstorm. Seek alternate routes to UB, such as I-86 and I-390. Show those Kent State Golden Flashes that Akron knows how to navigate roads better than the other northeast Ohio university that has a 84% acceptance rate!
  12. True, by the time Ohio plays BG we will know exactly what we need to happen to get to Detroit if it's still possible. Ohio losing to BG just makes a three way tie UB-OU-BG go to the second tiebreaker rather than OU going 2-0 vs BG and UB.
  13. Conference. We need Ohio to lose at least one game, preferably to BG.
  14. We need BG to keep pace with us and Ohio. Can’t go to Detroit with UB and OU in a two team tie, need to get a game up on OU or three way tie with BG. It’s possible the OU vs BG game is OU wins they go to Detroit, OU loses UB goes to Detroit.
  15. Where did Keita go? A TBN article from last month still had her on the team.
  16. UB wins, UB is in with: W vs CMU, any Kent loss, any BG loss W vs CMU, W vs Akron UB loses, UB needs to outpace Ohio by 1 win. If UB, Ohio, BG are tied in conference record, if Ohio won their final game (vs BG) they win the three way tiebreaker and go to Detroit. BG wins that game, then we go next down the tiebreakers and go with record against the 4th place division opponent. I'll put together rooting interests later this week, but basically if we beat an opponent we want them to keep winning. We obviously want Ohio to lose (this is a general rule of thumb no matter what the scenario or sport is), but BG is tough because they're within striking distance but we hold the H2H tiebreaker. Regardless take care of business ourselves. Or to quote Al Davis, "Just Win, Baby"
  17. Wow, I just looked up the last time Ohio won a football MAC Championship! No way that’s real! 1968?!?!
  18. Follow up on this. 1. Won the turnover battle 2. 4 for 35 3. 4 touchdowns, 2 field goals 4. We gave up some big punt returns and had punts of 12 yards and 16 yards so I guess we checked this box even if not in our favor.
  19. Army 2016 Kent State 2019 Ohio 2021 Toledo 2022 Can't say UB football is boring.
  20. Can y’all run the play your friends to the south ran against us?
  21. Much of the advanced stats I've seen puts them at the top of the conference with us in second in offensive stats. They can score. If our defense plays like it did against Coastal, this game can get very ugly very fast. The Miami game makes me hopeful that the defense has progressed since then. UMass we held them to 7 points but it's also UMass.
  22. Stopped in the team store at 12:30. There’s a handful of smalls and mediums left, restock is coming either today or tomorrow.
  23. Great article. Oh no there's always a Buffalo connection...his kid is a brat.
  24. That logo appears in the team shop as well. Personally I think it would look better with NEW YORK across the middle and covering all three logos but oh well.
  25. You’ve said some crazy stuff on here but this might outdo all of it. Their options are equal to or worse than UB’s. Until the RC concession stands take credit cards they are below UB. agreed that UB needs to improve though.
