  1. I'm an old fart who attended a lot of those basketball games. The Aud was expanded upward around 1971 (my first year at UB) to 17,000 seats for basketball and a few thousand less for hockey. As fun as those games were, I enjoy AA more. It's far more intimate, and I find the energy from you young whipper-snappers contagious. If you respond, please type loud...we old farts are hard of hearing.
  2. Other schools use digital tickets that can be transferred if the original ticket holder can't attend. that fills some of those otherwise empty seats.
  3. I won't make excuses for that play, but you never know. Could have been been a brain cramp, could have been coaches, could have been a response to a comment made by an opponent. You just never know.
  4. Three UB freshmen score more than 50% of the points versus Dartmouth today.
  5. Me too. Gutsy game (well...gutsiest after coach tore them all a new one). And my favorite whipping gal Ms. Gaba had what I hope was her break-out game against a pretty tough, and tall, team.
  6. With WHAT player? How is that a team stat?
  7. What is the “on court points” stat under team stats?
  8. There are a handful of refs on both the men's and women's sides that are not just inept, but actually kill the game. I don't know their names (although I'm fairly certain that the worst ref for the women's game - the lady with the sometimes braided hair - is named Felicia) but I know them when I see them.
  9. Gaba had several critical boards and blocked shots down the stretch. What she struggles with is shooting. When she receives a high pass she most often will put it on the floor - that negates her height advantage. And when she does keep the ball high, pivots and then shoots, far too many of those attempts are wildly off-target. I think with more work this sort of thing will be her bread-and-butter and she'll be good for 10 points a game.
  10. Exciting finish. I thought Dayton 3’s would kill us. Hannah looked like she suffered a hip strain after her collision (on a very iffy blocking foul call) but seemed to be ready to re-enter if needed in the last few minutes. Maybe biggest shot of game was the late FT that put us ahead by 7 points, 3 possessions, in the final half minute.
  11. I don’t understand why Gaba gets so much court time. She has no shot from anywhere.
  12. Summer red-shirting and returning would be an unexpected gift to the program. But she has to be a matriculated student and I would think that despite her injury she is on schedule with her coursework. Stay tuned, I guess. Too bad about Christie, it seems like she was beginning to get comfortable with her role. I hope she recovers quickly. I go to every game when I can. I'm the guy sitting next to the woman (my lovely wife) who screams "ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!" at the first crap call by an official (usually the female ref with the longish braids). My daughter and I secretly bet on the time elapsed before we hear wifey yell at the refs.
  13. I’ve been following UB Basketball since the days of Clark Hall. I have rarely left a game early out of disgust. Today was the second time this season.
  14. Coach Jack in interview with TBN left open the possibility that Summer might not be available this season. Does anyone know if the NCAA allows her to be redshirted at this point?
  15. Gaba had a fine game today. As for Summer...I have no idea where she is with her recovery timetable, but I don’t see any compelling reason to get her on the court until she is 100%. Somehow I must have missed this: where is Finesse? Injured? Academic problems?
  16. I'm looking for even a modest uptick in EFFICIENCY. Mo State made 35 of 79 attempts from the floor. Our boys made only 36 of 94 shots from the floor. As far as big men, let's see if Mballa blossoms or wilts w/o Brock.
  17. I'll weigh the pros (decades long fan) and cons of attending (cost of tickets, uncomfortable general admission seating, terrible parking and even worse traffic control by inept campus public safety personnel) once the conference portion of the season is close. Meanwhile, I will attend every women's home game, as I have done through both the lean and the rich years.
  18. Sure, we all love Brock. But he is not quick-footed enough to defend against other big men under the basket. Nor does he consistently make what many would call high-percentage baskets. Regardless, I think he has a role on this team, as others here have said, playing 5-6 minutes/game spelling Mballa. I'm curious though...who does Brock practice against, someone with his size and with talent approaching Daemen's big man, that would help in his development?
  19. The last I knew NCAA mens basketball was allowed 13 scholarships. I think I counted 16 faces on the program last night. Can someone please explain how this works? Thanks.
  20. Congrats to Cierra. Good luck in the WNBA.
  21. I went to a Canisius game this season. They were doing the same “hand off” thing. It was as boring as I remembered.
  22. Agree. I'm over the gimmicky garage attendant thing. Fine that it was a motivator, but it was Oats' motivator. Move on. As far as branding goes, I'm happy with a BULL, the proud symbol my former (student) school and present (faculty) employer, and with True Blue, the provider of energy and passion for current students. As for Hogdson, don't let the door hit you on the way to Alabama.
  23. I should have said "That Alnutt MIGHT NOT have a plan...". Sorry, my bad.
  24. I'm not sure either way. It was mostly rhetorical question to trigger the conversation we are having.
