  1. Interesting. I started college at North Central (to this day I don't know what Naperville, IL is "north central" of).
  2. Nice to see the Charlotte fans making the most of it. Bowls are really special. This one has plenty of points of interest: first bowl win for one team, fierce wind, Patterson on an amazing run of rushing TD's.
  3. It's midnight in the Bahamas, so it is time for a game day thread. Go Bulls! Today is not going to be very productive at work. 😉
  4. Based on what I'm hearing about the wind, I'm glad to have such a strong running game. Go Bulls.
  5. This is going to be a long week at work. I so wish I could be at the bowl in person. Sigh, it is still only Tuesday. Very tempted to check airfares.
  6. There is another funny money phenomenon when one state school pays another state school for a "buy game." That is money the moves from the budget of one government entity to the budget of another. It is fundamentally different that when a non-state school is involved in the transaction for a "buy game."
  7. While I see something like this coming, here are the problems I see: 1. As long as there is still huge interest in the non-pro college league, you are going to have players not being paid though generated great revenue for the university. 2. There will be huge advantages for the colleges with pro teams, not unlike colleges that also have "regional training centers" for wrestling. But I think something along the lines of colleges having the opportunity to have both pro and non-pro teams is coming.
  8. I anticipate a break-up of college football, due to the payment of some players, new (lower) payments for broadcast rights, and the escalation of head coach salaries. Essentially, I anticipate a pre-NFL league in which players are fully paid. If you want to play football and make money, try to get into this league. This is the only way that anything like current college football can survive.
  9. I think the results should be made public, both for celebration and humiliation purposes, even though I may be one due for humiliation.
  10. That "Piss"issippi player seems like a perfect fit with a coach like Fleck! All show and no flow!
  11. Bielema left Wisconsin for Arkansas (and not necessary because the SEC is better, but because his seat was getting pretty hot in Madison).
  12. So, your first post here is to tell us you are probably not cheering for Buffalo. Boo. 😉 You know that UB helped make you who you are! 😁 Go Bulls!
  13. Was watching the Battle for Atlantis on Friday and apparently there was a major power outage on the island. Fortunately, Atlantis had generators, but even they went out, once right in the middle of a guy making a layup. Atlantis itself looks amazing.
  14. Shouldn't drunk-post. P.S. #26 is incredible today.
  15. I hope they may have been just trying to give the tickets to an old-timer who actually knew him.
  16. So, what are your preferences? 1. Camellia Bowl, Montgomery, AL. Mostly because I like southern cities (e.g. BBQ and bars). 2. Cheribundi Bowl, Boca Raton, FL. Lots of options to fly into. 3. Makers Wanted Bowl, Nassau, Bahamas. Partly because Makers Wanted is a Chicago thing. Not sure how to predict. The MAC bowl selections always baffle me in terms of logic.
  17. You guys can argue about the facts of the story. I'm just going to enjoy reading about Gary Quatrani. He was quite the guy on the field and even more impressive off the field.
  18. Covering a big spread would send a nice little message to the bowl selection people.
  19. Good question. Only a worthy old-timer is going to know the answer. Google didn't even help me!
  20. I'm not buying the "we must be 7-5" to get to a bowl. I think it has more to do with our opponent. If there is an opponent who will provide for decent ticket sales, then the storylines associated with this Buffalo team will help to make for a compelling broadcast.
  21. There have been plenty of other painful losses, but the MAC Championship and the Troy bowl game are not in the same category. This loss was epic.
  22. 99 out of 100 games like that go our way. Unfortunately, this was the 1. Quickest solution is on special teams. Take care of the basics. Nobody comes unblocked. Jump on the ball when it is near you. Do either one of those things and we win.
