  1. So despite what looks like a down year, looking at our per game stat averages, it’s very clear what our weakness this year is. At this point in the season, we rank 49th in the country in total points scored (1350). We are also 27th in the country in points per game (79.4). Field goal percentage could be greatly improved if we stop taking low percentage shots (kind of an obvious statement) but we are middle of the pack in that category, being 145th in the country (44.3%). Our 3 point percentage is down this year from last year, we are shooting 33.4% which is good for 174th in the country. Our rebounding is a clear strength, as we are 17th in the country with 41.2 rebounds per game. We are 24th in the country in assists per game (16.4). Our assist to turnover ratio (1.2) puts us at 33rd in the country. Lastly our blocked shots per game (4.4) puts us at 53rd in the country. Theres positives that can be taken away from that for sure. But among those good stats, there’s also very bad. We rank almost last in the country in free throw percentage (332nd), shooting 63.6%. We also are 222nd in the country in turnovers per game, committing 14.1 per game. Taking away from all this, I can easily say that our weaknesses are on the defensive side, since we are averaging almost 80 points per game and most of our games have been really close. In my opinion, if you’re scoring almost 80 points per game, you should win every time. Any game where the other team scores over 70 is a failed defensive effort. Which is exactly what defense is...EFFORT. We can score all the points in the world and play fast, but if we’re getting fast points, it means the other team is getting the ball back quickly too. All the points mean nothing if you can’t stop the other team from scoring more. Our shot selection really needs to improve as well. Many people on here have pointed it out, but this team plays more selfishly than last years team. Making that “one more” pass to go from a good shot, to finding a guy for a wide open even batter shot goes a long way. The turnovers come from driving the ball into the lane being surrounded by 3 players trying to somehow pass the ball out of that scenario. Summary of all this? We are good offensively but could be even better with shot selection improvement. Defensively? We are horrible and need somebody to step up and be that Caruthers to help Jordan. We are still a relatively young team too and it shows in our discipline -> turnovers
  2. Do you know how long after the game ends until you can rewatch it on ESPN+?
  3. Happy to get the win, that type of thing has a way of setting teams back a game or two
  4. He’s having a strong season for Park and is set on going to prep school next year to be able to start college as a more polished product
  5. No I agree, a win is a win. I was just pointing out why people aren’t all jumping aboard the praise train just yet. They have the athleticism to turn it around, they just have to stop playing like it’s their first time playing together.
  6. It was a close, unconvincing win, over a bottom tier MAC team
  7. Following up on this, not counting tonight we are the 334th ranked team in the country in free throw percentage.
  8. We’ve gotta be one of the worst free throw shooting teams in the country
  9. Your name gives me nervous flashbacks to submitting assignments at 11:58pm that were due at 11:59pm, but I agree
  10. My only problem with him is that he just seems to have a problem with anyone that disagrees with him in any way.
  11. By calling someone out for being rude, I myself am being just as bad? Well I guess this is the thread for hot takes
  12. Still condescending and confrontational I see. I used to be like that on here until I was called out for it and realized how unbearable I was being. Hopefully you do the same
  13. I can see where you’re coming from with that and agree on the relationship with the referees part, there just needs to be more energy from this team and personally I think that starts with the coach
  14. That’s pretty pathetic man. We get it, you have a personal problem with Kevin. stop taking it out on everyone on here. It makes you seem desperate and fragile. In fact your whole attitude on here towards anyone with a different opinion is arrogant and rude. Maybe exile yourself back to Bull Run if you don’t know how to get along with others
  15. I never said for coach to only scream, I said he never does and there’s a very clear difference in effort from last years team to this one. How many charges does this team take anymore? Barely any compared to last year. The difference? Oats knew when to scream and when to teach. He could turn it on and off and there was intensity and fire in him that the team fed from. Whitesell just teaches, he never gets worked up and it’s translating to his team not having the driving motivation to make comebacks in games that they can still win. They see a double digit deficit and they mail it in.
  16. The job of the coach is to motivate and inspire their players to be successful. They provide guidance, structure, as well as playcalling in games. They must also have a good sense of when to call a time out to try and regroup when things aren’t going well. I started the season optimistic, now not so much. Our coach may be a great person, but his sideline intensity leaves a lot to be desired. When a team isn’t playing well, and when they’re down by double digits, they need a fire under their ass and some sort of energy to feed off of to motivate them to play better and make a come back. Whitesell simply does not get fired up. A bad call happens? He stands there with his hand on his chin. A player makes a bad play? He starts Sean McDermott clapping in front of the bench. There is ZERO intensity. If your team was down by several scores and you’re starting to get demoralized by it, which one would motivate you better and give you the energy boost to do something about it: A coach calmly explaining techniques and pointing things out, or a coach who is going to yell and scream and put a chip on your shoulder? Its why players who’s coach also happens to be their parent put so much effort in. Their parent knows EXACTLY what buttons to push to get you pumped up and motivated to do better. A coach can’t always be a player’s best friend, sometimes they have to call them out and make situations uncomfortable because clearly whatever the player was doing before wasn’t working. Until there is a significant culture change and surge of energy brought to this team, expect a lot of the same results. As far as players posting their own personal highlights after bad losses go, take that any way you want. I personally interpret it as them saying “Hey other college coaches, look what I can do! Look how talented I am, look how solid of a transfer I could be for your program! Get me out of this lifeless team please!” Disagree with me all you want. There plenty of people on here that seem to not comprehend that people will have differing opinions than them. My position is going to remain that this team needs a f**king leader to stand up and be vocal and motivate them to be better and play to their potential.
  17. There’s no defense. No energy, it looks like they don’t even want to be out there
  18. I think you guys should hug it out or something.
  19. From a neutral opinion on this, I never see you commenting on here at all unless it’s to respond to Kevin. Your responses also always start an argument which then devolves into middle school pissing matches. Nobody cares about you banning anyone from a website or who you block on social media. This whole forum is intended to be used to talk about UB athletics, not starting arguments with someone you have a personal issue with.
  20. Ah yes, the good ole “run the play that hasn’t worked all game in crunch time” strategy
  21. Perhaps we should run a Press Virginia defense because teams have absolutely crapped their pants when we’ve switch to a full court press this season
  22. You can have all the talent in the world. You can have a team of nothing but 5 stars. But when you have a coach that acts like he’s allergic to yelling and showing any form of motivational fire, this is always the result
  23. What’s their forum called? I want to read it for comedic purposes
  24. Is there just not a fan forum for Bonaventure? I’m trying to figure out why you comment on here
