No yeah I saw that, could be. Just didn't hear anything about it on my end. I don't really have sources, just a one-off conversation with someone over there who knows fans like you and I are growing concerned.

My only inside sources at UB are on the Football team, not much help with this situation 😂

I have no idea what the contract length thing is about, wasn't discussed at all. Can't see the contract ever being three or six years, so would it really come down to four vs five? I'd hope not.

Think @Kevin mentioned something about contract length playing a role. Sorry for the confusion

Talked to someone in the department this afternoon. They're projecting confidence and saying the "news" that has come out isn't necessarily true. Sounds like family considerations factored heavily in Cohen's decision, unfortunately. Still no idea why we're hearing about candidates declining and not just "Coach X has been hired" when it's finalized.

Wonder if they could be like “hey I know you don’t like the length of contract, but you can earn an extension if you/team perform well”. If it is due to NIL or lack of resources there’s not much you could say to that other than being optimistic that those resources will be available in the near future

Am I missing something? I thought Jack had length and athleticism and was highly efficient with the ball down low. He just sucked at keeping players in front of him defensively and ended up reaching in for fouls. I will admit though, I spaced out for most of the second half of the season.

Jack had great skill coming in as just a true freshman. His defense will get better with time if he decides to stay. He already proved that he can be effective offensively. Centers and PF’s are a lot like hockey goalies, takes time to develop at a higher level most of the time

  5. I’m guessing it’s McCollum, based off our staff following him right after his interview. What could delay this is the fact he’s residing in Missouri, has a wife and a few children who seem to be fairly young. He’s gonna have to buy a new home, find a school/schools for his kids. Not easy just to pack up and leave. Especially since he’s been in Missouri for a while

I did not have a great time with Foster. I hope he can get D1 level players

I’m fairly certain he would be able too. Most head coaches don’t do lead recruiting. They are just the ones who give a sales pitch or act as a closer. He’d need to hire someone with experience for that role. From what I hear he and his staff were incredibly efficient at recruiting at the d2 level. Would sometimes get commits from guys with d1 offers. Now at the mid major level it’s all about playing time, team scheme and the school itself. If you play an attractive style of ball, offer recruits/transfers the ability to showcase their talent and lastly have resources for them to succeed. You can build a pretty strong recruiting class

  7. I’m confident but also terrified of the situation. We better have someone signed by now. Teams are filling vacancies all around us. My fear is that we don’t have one signed and the coach we are looking for ends up staying with their current team or goes to a larger school. Then we would have to scramble and possibly hire a weak candidate. Other mid majors have also started signing transfers. We currently have no transfers or HS players committed. We need to get this done ASAP but also need to hire someone whos a strong candidate

Assuming with the timing of Jones' announcement, I'm assuming UB has chosen it's coach and/or leader. I'm assuming they are still left in the tournament.

I also noticed Foley dropped the “former” on his twitter bio. Wonder if the new coach liked his JUCO pipeline

Yep, I think that's right. Getting impatient and settling (imo) for Washington is my worry. If there is mutual interest between UB and Cohen, I imagine his agent is communicating and alleviating pressure.

I dont really believe that we would be settling for Washington. He’s got a really great track record. He’s an incredible recruiter, had great team success at Michigan and is heavily involved in elevating the position of black coaches in basketball (much like Quarles). I’m more of a fan of Cohen due to the fact that he’s from WNY and could have his team more heavily involved in the community. Both are pretty good choices for the HC gig

If we don't hear something today, can we start to assume that continuing tournament obligations are delaying things? I'm hoping they don't settle on someone immediately available in the meantime.

Washington is probably the best available who’s not in the tournament. Cohen is still in with Xavier but there’s some down time before the sweet 16 starts. I’ve been hounding the Coaching Changes twitter and all signs point to the two of them being the top candidates interested. Hodgson seems like a dark horse at the moment. However, he is receiving a ton of pushback from Ark State fans due to the situation at Bama. Things could possibly cool down there unless he’s already verbally agreed or signed pen to paper. If it’s going to be Washington I’d expect today or tomorrow to hear. Cohen on the other hand could be a longer more drawn out wait. Cohen could even have said yes to the gig but it could be under wraps until Xavier wins/gets knocked out of the tournament

  11. Always love March madness and tonight I get to watch two old friends of mine play, Jalen Pickett and Don Carey. Both played for Siena when I was a student there. Jalen and I became good friends at orientation and he lived in the room right next to me  our freshman year. Hopefully he becomes a lottery pick this year. Don Carey and I had a class together and he would play pickup with my friends and I when he was available. Both are great guys and it’s awesome to see them play well for their respective teams
