  1. I don't care if this counts as a quality win at the end of the season or not. This was a great win for UB.
  2. I've been nervous about this game all season and Bona's slow start didn't really do anything to ease my fears. Everything I've seen from this team tells me they SHOULD go in there and win but Bona has been beating our good teams the last few years. We'll see if they can beat our great team, too.
  3. Johnson will start. I’ve heard nothing but amazing things about him. When Hodgson was interviewed last week he more or less said Johnson was the Massinburg replacement and Cadwell was the Harris replacement. I think the stretch 4 position will be a tough battle between Jackson and Cadwell.
  4. I love that the system we play basically calls for "athletic freak who spaces well and is smart with the ball" and at the mid major level we still manage to find these guys at every position. I don't know how these coaches are doing it but I hope they continue to do so.
  5. Glad to see things fell our way. Poll momentum is real - most of these AP voters aren't watching all these games, they're looking at where they had the teams last week then adjusting according to the results that week. That makes it really hard for anyone already out of the top 25 to begin the season to work their way in unless they have a marquis win very early on like UB did. Had it happened in week 3 or 4 ( and assuming WVU was ranked at a similar spot at the time of victory) I don't know that we'd be seeing UB in the top 25 right now. Games with potential implication for teams that could land in the polls near UB or who are already there. Trying to only pick out games that should be competitive (Sorry Arkansas Pine Bluff but I don't think your Texas Tech game is going to be a nail biter): Monday: #18 Iowa vs. # 10 Michigan State; # 12 Wisconsin vs Rutgers; Tuesday: Northeastern vs Syracuse; Oklahoma vs Notre Dame, Indiana vs Penn State Wenesday: Temple vs # 21 Villanova, #24 Nebraska vs Minnesota; Thursday: #23 Maryland vs Purdue, Iowa State vs # 18 Iowa; Friday: #6 Nevada vs # 20 Arizona State Saturday: Georgetown vs Syracuse, # 22 Mississippi State vs Clemson, Houston vs Oklahoma State, # 12 Wisconsin vs Marquette, # 24 Nebraska vs Creighton, # 11 Florida State vs. UConn, UCLA vs Notre Dame I don't expect as much volatility in the rankings around UB this week based on the schedules of the teams around them. Syracuse has a chance at 2 good teams this week which would likely land them back in the top 25. Marquette with a great opportunity against Wisconsin (who also has a sneaky good game against Rutgers this week). Notre Dame is not really in the top 25- discussion but could be if they go 2-0 vs Oklahoma and UCLA. Iowa with an opportunity for two statement wins this week, but 1-1 may even be enough to put them above a UB team that goes 2-0 this week. If Arizona State beats Nevada they'll sky rocket up the polls.
  6. It's funny because based on the name it seems like a simplistic comparison, but he reminds me a lot of CJ McCollum, just with a slower release. Great scorer that can do more than he should probably. Very similar sized players too. CJ's efficiency is truly remarkable. To handle the ball as much as he does and only average 1 TO per game is such an incredible asset to have.
  7. I love college basketball and I love it even more now that top 25 games have implications for UB. Let me tell you: this week was great for UB. Games of interest: # 11 UNC went 0-1 this week - lost to #7 Michigan - Michigan is great so I don't expect them to be hurt too much by the loss, they'll stay above UB. # 12 Kansas State went 0-1 this week - lost to Marquette - despite their loss I expect them to stay above UB in the top 25. # 13 Virginia Tech went 1-1 this week - lost at Penn State and crushed Donyell Marshall's CCSU. May drop below Buffalo but no guarantee. #14 Iowa went 1-1 this week - won vs Pittsburgh and lost to Wisconsin - probably will drop below Buffalo but no guarantee. # 15 Florida State went 1-0 this week - winning against Purdue. They should rise to #12 or so. # 16 Ohio State went 0-1 this week - loss to Syracuse - they probably will drop below Buffalo # 17 Texas went 0-2 this week - losses to Radford and #11 MSU - they will almost definitely drop from the top 25. # 18 Oregon went 0-2 this week - losses to Texas Southern and Houston - they will absolutely drop from the top 25. # 19 Purdue went 0-2 this week - losses to # 15 FSU and # 7 Michigan - good teams but at 5-3 they don't belong in the top 25. # 20 Texas Tech went 1-0 this week - beat Memphis - Texas Tech should rise, I'll say they end up at # 14 Teams below UB that I could see leap-frogging UB in the poll: Wisconsin (definitely will), Villanova (probably will even though they only beat a winless team in La Salle), Maryland (lost to a great Virginia team, beat a good PSU team - Purdue rose above us with a worse week so I expect them to as well) So I have UB rising at least two spots to 19, could be as high as 16 or 17 if voters punish Iowa and Virginia Tech. Could go as high as 13 or 14 if everything went their way but that's a long shot.
  8. Hard to disagree with that statement now. He’s been more consistent and reliable than any player I have watched at UB. His presence, as shown by that stat, makes the whole team better and it has since his freshman year. I hope to see # 5 hanging in the rafters some day.
  9. Glad to be facing San Francisco tomorrow. A win on a neutral court would look good on a resume and even a loss could be forgiven on selection Sunday if we win the rest of the non conference slate and split Marquette/Syracuse. The Dons looked pretty good in taking down SFA.
  10. St Mary’s was 25th in the final AP poll before the tournament last year. They had been in the top 25 for 7 consecutive weeks. As a 2 seed in the WCC tournament they lost to 3 seed BYU in the semi-finals. They wound up 28-5 and out of the NCAA field. There’s no guarantees when you’re a mid-major. Let it just be a lesson for Buffalo - no complacency and no mercy. We have to destroy the MAC week after week and we can’t leave anything to chance by losing in the conference tournament.
  11. LSU just lost to an unranked OK State. TCU’s loss to Lipscomb, Clemson’s loss to Creighton and UCLA had 2 losses (albeit to great teams). Those are our 4 best chances to move up. I’ll guess that Texas leap frogs us, we move above LSU and TCU but stay behind UCLA and Clemson and start next week at 21
  12. The elite Women's CBB teams are always on a tier well above the next best group of teams. Had we lost by 40 this early in the season without Hemphill and replacing all that we did from last year I wouldn't have been worried. The fact that we lost by 20 and looked like we belonged on the same court has me optimistic for another NCAA tournament run this year. Dillard is so so so good. I hope this team doesn't get lost in the excitement over MBB. Coach Jack reloaded the talent pool and I think it should be another strong year.
  13. Massinburg carries the team offensively. When nobody else could hit a shot he was there again and again and again. I love this team.
  14. It's obviously a compliment to have Buffalo as a 9 seed before playing a game this year but I'm with Dooley. If we're not a 7 or better I want to be a 10 or worse. It goes without saying I'm getting ahead of myself talking seeding now. I'm really excited to see how this team stacks up against WVU next week.
  15. Segu looked awesome. Williams played well on D, tried doing a bit too much on his own on offense. Drove and got into trouble and tried to force it up rather than dish it out. He’ll be fine. I saw nothing that can’t be fixed.
  16. I think you hit the nail on the head. Guys like Perkins who can play the quick game but have size and bulk are really really difficult to come by at the mid-major level. In retrospect his commitment was absolutely huge for us because of his versatility for a big. Sacrificing some bulk for some speed and athleticism is going to be a necessity if we want to keep playing the way we do, unless we stumble across another Perkins-esque recruiting coup. I hate imagining a team without Massinburg, Perkins, Harris and Caruthers but there is so much potential there for next year. I can't tell you how excited I am to see Williams in a ball-handler type # 4 role like Harris took against Arizona. This year's squad's biggest limitation is there's only so many minutes to distribute to the guys who deserve it.
  17. I could survive without the ESPN+ football content but I think now that basketball is back I have to bite the bullet.
  18. Really excited to see Williams with 19. Crazy how many weapons this team could have.
  19. Emmanuel Andrew posted on his Instagram that he’ll be announcing his decision soon
  20. https://www.three-man-weave.com/3mw/mac-basketball-preview-2019 Nice conference write up from Three Man Weave
  21. Per Adam Zagoria, we are involved in the recruiting of 4* forward prospect Tyrese Samuel along with Wake Forest, UConn, Ole Miss, Northwestern, and St. John's. Adam Zagoria Tweet Top 100 recruit, 85 overall per 247 Sports: 247 Sports May be a long shot but I'll never doubt this coaching staff's ability again.
