  1. Although, WNY high school hoops is generally having a down year talent wise, in past years this area produces about 4-5 D1 recruits per year. Why don’t we establish more of a local pipeline? Roddy Gayle Jr., a Niagara Falls kid, is averaging 14.2 points per game for Ohio State this year. Davonte “Ticket” Gaines is averaging 9 points per game at Providence from Buffalo. Greg Dolan was 2nd Team All-Ivy League at Cornell, and is a solid role player at Loyola Chicago right now. Jordan Nwora went from the Park School in Amherst to the NBA. Being in the area we could get on these kids early in their recruitment, offer them first , and we’d be more likely to keep these kids considering our local proximity. I don’t really remember any local recruits coming here outside of walk-ons and I think it’s worth a shot establishing more of a pipeline here. Currently, Shane Cercone is playing at prep school but was WNY player of the year last season at Canisius and holds D1 offers from Fairfield and Albany. He played at the same AAU program as Jeenathan Williams. Jaiden Harrison is a senior at Timon and has a shot of breaking the all time Western New York scoring record (also holds offers from Fairfield and Albany). He showed out on the AAU circuit this summer, earning All-Tournament team at the Prep Hoops College showcase in Chicago. Amir Moye is only a sophomore, but averaged 18 per game as a freshman at Health Sciences Charter and was 1st team All-Western New York. His recruitment is just beginning. Speaking of Williams, he’s an example of how that local connection can be key, as we have a solid pipeline from Rochester and they aren’t even right in our backyard. This could also potentially drive more interest to the program, as some of stars in local high schools would advance to play at UB. This may not be a sustainable idea right now, as WNY is in kind of a dead spot for D1 talent. But that won’t stay that way for long considering our areas hoops history. Thoughts? I’m just throwing ideas off the wall based on a missed opportunity.
  2. I thought Mo was supposed to be a good recruiter. I guess players are starting to notice how the program has regressed under him, as well as the numerous players that enter the transfer portal from us?
  3. To be honest, I’m actually glad he’s gone and the fact that he transferred to a lower program in the Mac is an indictment of just how embarrassing it was that we trotted him out as starter. He was like the 4th string QB at Rutgers, he’s a straight up scrub and was the worst regular starting QB at UB in a minute
  4. What do you want him to do, be an emotionless statue on the sideline? I’d much prefer a coach with energy and passion than one like Whitesell
  5. Horrible foul call on Chatman. Ridiculous
  6. I know it’s beating a dead horse, but it’s shocking how thin our depth is. There is a non-zero chance that half or more of our active players will be in foul trouble and there is no one to sub in to replace them.
  7. I can’t stand how Isaiah Adams plays. It feels like he single-handedly shoots us out of game sometimes. Takes dumb shots and thinks he’s a star
  8. Been dominant on the boards, Sabol’s been on fire. CMU looks dead, Pritchard is single-handedly carrying them. Need to work on turnovers, but overall a great first half
  9. I could’ve used a better term to express what I meant rather than the word “rebuilding”. What I meant was that we expected to take a step down this season losing many major contributors and bringing in a young recruiting class, but reload for next year. This season has just been embarrassing and nowhere near where we should be in the reloading process. I couldn’t agree more with your statement
  10. We are one of only 9 teams in the nation that remain without a win against a Division 1 opponent. To see this once proud program amongst the likes of Mississippi Valley State, Alcorn State, Grambling and Houston Christian is embarrassing. I really don’t care that it’s a rebuilding year, a program of UB’s pedigree should have managed to grab at least one win at this point in the season.
  11. One hundred percent agree. I feel that if Halcovage was even a half-decent coach, he would’ve been able to recruit a team that is capable of winning just one D1 game and even if the talent isn’t there able to coach a team to 1 D1 win
  12. This team might genuinely win only that 1 Roberts Wesleyan game. Absolutely embarrassing low for this once proud program
  13. According to 247, we got DE Shamar Riser-Pressley to commit last week. 6-6, 242lbs and was a high 3 star prospect that is our number 10 all time recruit according to 247 and held offers from Army and several MAC schools.
  14. Not surprising, but still sad. Maybe if we had a solid foundation for a team and were actually competitive we could’ve convinced him to stay. Hope he balls out at a power 5
  15. I really hope Fulcher transfers. A pretty decent slasher, but he can’t play defense, is a turnover machine and can’t shoot
  16. Figured we should have a thread for guys who are both leaving in the portal and entering from the portal. To start, so far QB Cole Snyder, WR Marlyn Johnson, DE Kameron Olds, DL Michael Tetteh, LB Shaun Dolac, LB Kyler Laing and S Chandler Brown have entered the portal. The biggest losses, in my opinion, are Dolac, Johnson and Snyder
  17. Crucial turnovers down the stretch. Hit a few threes and don’t allow those turnovers and we have a one score ballgame right now
  18. Already seeing improvement in this team. We can definitely pick up at least a couple MAC wins if we play with this much intensity throughout the year
  19. Fulcher is balling out right now and Butler is having a terrible shooting night. If we keep up the defensive intensity and limit turnovers we can keep this a competitive game
  20. Not shooting great at all, but pretty solid defense
  21. For a point spread of 32, they are competing well to expectations. Defense has held up a lot more than usual. Don’t forget JMU is a massive step up in talent compared to the other teams we’ve played thus far
  22. Honesty look much improved. Probably will still lose but definitely have to eat my words about them dropping 120 on us
  23. Seems like he’s primed for a big junior year based off both his expansive college interest list (debatable how credible that is) and performances like this from over the summer . Also seems like Coolidge does play some of the top teams in DC just taking a quick glance at their schedule edit:the tweet didn’t link properly but it was a post where he dropped 25 points to lead his team to a win in some sort of summer league. Just trying my best to get as much info as possible on this kid lol
  24. I’m unsure on if these are official offers or not, but this graphic was posted on his Instagram page, presumably being other schools interested in him? If any of you have Instagram, he does have some highlights posted of himself on his Instagram if you care to check it out
  25. Per UB’s basketball Instagram page it seems we have our first class of 2025 commit. Quintin Cooper, a 6’3 PG who plays for Calvin Coolidge HS in DC. Couldn’t find much on him from a quick google search, but he still has 2 full years of high school to develop.
