  1. Thank you Jayvon Graves! I could not help but be very thankful he chose UB over Akron as I watched him walk off the floor in the waning seconds. While he’s struggled at times this season and last he will be forever known as one of UB’s best. Wherever the road ahead takes him I wish him the very best!
  2. Who knows. But he has the skill. In fact he probably has the best stroke of anyone. But when you rush things as appears to be doing you end up pushing up the shot rather than letting the ball roll off your fingertips.
  3. Segu really struggling with his shot. He needs to relax. It seems like he’s lost his confidence.
  4. The term winning ugly was coined for games like this. In games like this you have to play tenacious defense and run your fast break to perfection. I’ll tell you about how it should be done sometime when we’re hanging out.
  5. 15 and counting. And against many players who don’t get big minutes usually. How? Poor judgment.
  6. Why not? The way the other guys are playing I’d put him in and put someone else on the pine
  7. Little energy, surprisingly so. Segu in awful funk.
  8. Great to see Graves playing well. Other than Mballa the rest look a bit sluggish. Interior D has been weak thus far.
  9. He looked good too. Good defense. And his 3 had really good form.
  10. I just hopped online to get the latest on tonight’s game. To my surprise nothing started yet. So here goes. I have it from a reliable source, one who you truly can rely on, UB by 10 tonight. Take it to the bank. Go Bulls!
  11. Pretty solid indeed. In the Reggie days we’d be dancing in the streets. However the bar was set extraordinarily high by Oats. We saw we could could have year in and year out with the right lives in place. So I think expectations have been raised. I know from perspective I always saw the vast potential of UB hoops. Great school. Vast student body. Vast alumni network. The only thing lacking was commitment by the university. It took off with the right people in place. The administration was beginning to see the effects of an enormously successful team. Danny White not only talked the talk, but walked the walk. Thus for many the expectations were reset. To me that was a great thing. Unfortunately the administration spit the bit by settling for less with ADs who didn’t possess the same level of belief in UB and the potential of the hoops team. So given the circumstances at present we should all be happy with 13-5 or 12-6 and hope for a successful run in Cleveland. Go Bulls!
  12. I was thinking about Jayvon earlier today. Regardless of what we think currently he will walk away from UB having one the best careers of any of player in the annals of UB basketball. He was a huge factor in his freshman and sophomore seasons. His contributions will always be appreciated! However, his game hasn’t advanced much of at all from two years ago. When he had the benefit of Harris, Perk, CJ and other top notch players around him he played an enormous contributory role. He rarely gets open looks from 3 where he has time and distance to set up properly and nail the shot without kick outs from Harris et al pressuring opposing defenses. His shots this and last year have been rushed which drives his makes down significantly. He also doesn’t benefit as he did two years ago from the high basketball of his teammates who knew when to pass the call and how to get it to the open man. Further he hasn’t improved his shooting form or ability. Plus when he takes to the hoop it is always a straight line to the hoop. He hasn’t developed the ability to pull up, pass to a teammate on the drive or take it back out if he gets bottled up in the lane leading to turnovers and misses which makes him way too predictable which leads opposing teams to collapse on him when he gets in the lane. I cannot imagine his frustration level. It’s a shame. But he like his teammates have to figure it out.
  13. 32-4! Finished # 15 in the country. I fear we’ll never see anything similar to that again at UB.
  14. Bobby’s best asset is recruiting. But he received big time help from Oats. I’m not sure he’s a big improvement on or off the bench.
  15. I think we need to keep expectations high and hold Alnut, coaches and players to a high standard. Once you lower standards you never meet them and regress at least in my opinion experience.

  18. I think Whitesell needs to step it up too. He’s gotta make sure they get good shots out of timeouts, try and minimize if not eradicate possessions where each player tries to go 1 on 1 then cough it up to a teammate who tries the same then to another teammate who does the same while bleeding shot clock leading to bad shot or turnover. He has to step up recruiting too be it out of JC or freshman class. I repeat BG was not impressive tonight. Was that their full team? We’re they missing anyone? They were far more athletic last year. I’m looking forward to seeing Ohio, Kent and Akron. If we can get our crap together we could do well.
  19. Just an awful last 3-4 minutes. Different season than last year, but same problems down the stretch. Absolutely no one to rely on to create a shot for themself or a teammate, taking bad shots, taking a prayer 3 pt shot out of a timeout when down only four, giving up offensive rebounds after rebounding well throughout game etc. Overall they played a good game but tainted by last four minutes. BG not impressive but they have Turner who can get his shot while creating for teammates. That’s the boy difference. We also let up after going up 5 or 6 with six minutes to go or so. With Mballa, perhaps a win. Zero from bench. Nickleberry just some horrendous shot attempts down stretch. Other than Fagan’s 8 rebounds not much contribution from anyone other than Graves, Segu and Williams.
  20. I think it is a mistake to write anyone off this early in the season. Especially someone like Fagan who showed some flashes two years ago and is coming off a season where he played little because of a season ending injury. However, he like everyone else on the roster needs to improve as the season progresses.
  21. After today’s performance on top of the last three games and two years of outstanding running it is time to promote Jaret. ESPN has him in their Heisman top 5!
  22. I saw Lance’s presser after the game. He was not aware of the records and Jaret being able to break both. He strongly suggested he would have kept him in the game had he known. In one sense it is likely a good thing he didn’t know, but on the other given the game was well in hand it is a shame the info wasn’t radioed down to him so he at least could have made an informed judgment call. Breaking both records would have been a great reward for Jaret and the O line while putting UB football in the board with some real significant records. So at at least my view that was a win win win situation for Jaret, the O line and UB football. With that said there is next week. Let’s crush the bob kittens.
  23. Same problem as last year. No one can score when the game is in the line. They did not score the last 4:39 of game which at that point led 74-70. That just won’t cut it.
  24. Hard to believe there are not more comments in this thread. Just an unbelievable performance by Jaret today. Just a shame Lance pulled him at the end when he would have seized to college records.
