  1. It was revealed October 1992. Judging by the 1993 record (1-10), it does not appear to bring good luck. I think a lot of the hype is because the program never does stuff like this. We’ve got white outs and black outs and bobble head giveaways but little that builds on our history*. Plus our merch usually sucks as noted above. I think the only good merch is typically hats because we have New era (kinda) in town here. *It’s getting better. One of the dorms was recently renamed to honor a football player who was a long-standing member of the UB community. Retiring #11 in basketball. Keeping the #41 jersey in football as an honor to Solomon Jackson, a member of the team who passed away.
  2. I went there this evening around 5:30 and did not see 3X in stock. There was a place for 2X but they were out of stock or didn't print any. I did not see anything else with the logo besides the shirt. I can stop by again on Wednesday if either of you are interested.
  3. http://www.winsipedia.com/buffalo/vs/toledo Looks like 0-1 or 0-0 This was introduced on October 24, 1992 so UB has not faced Toledo with that logo. Pathetic that this isn't possible yet. I'm going to try to go to the team shop this evening, I don't know what the price or shipping costs would be but I'd be willing to buy and ship if you're interested.
  4. They might have wanted to play the same songs again since they were not able to have vocal accompaniment during halftime. Mars is also not an easy song to march to (it’s in 5/4, and most people have two legs) so they might have played it again to have another or better video of it. It also could be possible that at this point in the season they don’t have enough time to put together a 30 minute show (10 at halftime + 20 after the game) with their schedule and high standards. One of the staff members noted some members played Friday night at hockey, arrived at 8am on Saturday for football, then had hockey right after the football game yesterday. More members does not always mean the band sounds better. UB’s lack of an undergrad music education program really hurts it here. FWIW UB’s band is about average in the MAC of the 8 MAC marching bands I’ve seen in person. They’re also larger (and better) than Wake Forest and Vanderbilt’s bands when I saw those. But yes agreed on the investment. It is getting better though. 10 years ago there were enough people to scrape together a band to send to Cleveland. A few years ago when the men were in Oklahoma and the women were in Connecticut both playing the NCAA tournament at the same time, the band had enough members, staff, and budget to send to both locations.
  5. Stayed for fifth quarter despite a long drive ahead of us. Listening to them play The Planets (twice!) was awesome, as was the rest of their show. You have to wonder how few tickets would be sold if that band wasn’t there.
  6. Maybe the head coach will be available in a couple years when Mo gets hired elsewhere
  7. For those that aren't getting there in time to tailgate or don't want to tailgate, last time I was at UMass I parked on the street in the Lincoln Ave, Sunset Ave area for free. About the same walk to the stadium as lot 33.
  8. Joke's on us, locals would think University at Buffalo is a more prestigious name anyway. Maybe it's time to write to my UB grad assemblymember who represents a toss up district. Unfortunately my state senator is a CC/SU grad.
  9. https://www.newsday.com/opinion/the-point/the-point-newsday-mike-fitzpatrick-sbu-nick-langworthy-o7kc32fw "Fitzpatrick says New York ought to have a single flagship university, as most states do, and argues the SUNY moniker carries with it an age-old negative bias. His vision is a University of New York, like Virginia, North Carolina or Michigan. He wants the whole ball of wax, including a top conference football team with a full-sized stadium and other sports programs." Agreed. "And he thinks the University of New York ought to be Stony Brook University, the neighbor of his district." 🤣 Just because USNWR ranked SBU highest this one year doesn't mean SBU is now the flagship. UB is still the largest and most comprehensive. UB's endowment is around $500 million more than SBU's. Stony Brook is slightly more selective. If you want to put money into elevating a school to be the single flagship with Big Ten aspirations, load up a boat and send that money down the Erie Canal.
  10. Have you watched a football game in our stadium? Truthfully, Eastern Michigan has a better view of the field than we do. Awful.
  11. We had a top 20 coastal Carolina team here last year. Students showed up. General public did not. I’m of the mindset of “blame the stadium” since our stadium is awful. But to say that fixing OOC scheduling will get butts in seats isn’t the full picture
  12. Bonaventure has one good program in their athletics department. The rest are more or less bottomfeeders. As a school, Bonaventure is even worse. Right now the school is being propped up by online enrollment. UB is a top 40 public school in the nation.
  13. Can't enter the portal mid-season. So right now even if you're mentally in the portal, you aren't officially in until later. I was chanting at the EMU game but I don't know if Alnutt heard me.
  14. When an Apple Watch has a better resolution than the scoreboard it is time to rethink the fan amenities. The sight lines are awful. Tickets are expensive. Colorado State has a new $250 million stadium, yet has been awful for the last 5 years. This was their last game when they got blown out by Middle Tennessee, a team that got blown out by recently-upgraded-to-FBS James Madison. When I went there in 2018, tickets were $45. Does UB need a $250 million stadium to get fan support even when the team sucks? No. Would a fraction of that amount, strategically deployed, increase the fan experience to something somewhat resembling a college football stadium? Yes. It's absolutely outrageous that Syracuse got tax money for their dome when our stadium sucks. It's equally outrageous that there appears to be no vision to upgrade the stadium. Sweet Home HS doesn't have a track, but the infield of their baseball field overlaps with part of the football field. Maybe we pilot one game a year there? The softball team was playing at Kenmore East so why not try football too.
  15. Usually the first game or two of the year, the student turnout is pretty good to the point where students are put in the 300's. I doubt this is because somebody is counting people but more of an eye test of what the section can fit. I've been to a couple stadiums where every seat is a seatback and the student sections seem to be much less tight, as you don't want to be the guy that is getting into your neighbor's pre-defined space, but also at the same time if the student section is standing nobody really needs all that space. So yes, it's mostly about getting as much people in as possible. On the chairbacks, the only ones at UB stadium that are good are the ones that are way out of my price range so I'd love if the seats that are bolted into the benches get removed. I have mostly praise for DW but this was one of his braniac ideas that sucked. I don't have the numbers, and I doubt there are many that are publicly available at the UB Stadium scale, but I imagine benches are multiples cheaper than chairbacks. I'd rather that money go towards a better videoboard and better sight lines (no track).
  16. Or at least run around like Tyree did where blitzes turned into a 30 yard sack or a 50 yard touchdown to a wide open receiver.
  17. I won't debate much of your post, just because all of it has been said and done before. However all chair backs are terrible for college football. Student sections need to be benches at the very least.
  18. One of the few positives today was seeing this. CCU could be a close game. Or we might not score.
  19. Snyder should have been benched after that call to kick a FG. Either play to win or pull your starters so they don't get injured. Mo played to put (three) points on the board and put Snyder back out there when we got the ball back. I hate the call to kick, I hate it even more that there was an injury risk to Snyder after Mo essentially conceded the game.
  20. Brent Pry not getting off to a great start at Tech.
  21. Kevin lobbed the ball up and Danny threw it down for a dunk.
  22. I'll take not getting shut out as a successful trip.
  23. I'll be there too. Looks like STHs are offloading these on secondary markets. Stubhub has tickets behind the Terps bench for $10 with fees. Think the last time I saw P5 tickets this cheap was a Vanderbilt game. Even the UB-Rutgers game was $15.
