Ya know every time someone posts in this thread I get worried im about to read a decomittment š
-
The idea that our ex coach had to get on a plane right away without speaking to his players is asinine. Makes it much easier to get over him leaving IMO. I donāt want a snake oil salesman as my coach
-
Hey I was the first purge! Yay! Seriously though, I loved Turner Battle as a player but if heās going to bring the 290th ranked pace of play than sorry but not interested. Alnutt taking his time, sure hope he makes the right choice here.

What Can We Do? (A [Hopefully] Galvanizing Thread)
UB05 replied to JoeyRattlesnake's topic in Buffalo Bulls Basketball
Great post. Donations are great and Iām sure the success of the past couple seasons have helped fans like yourself step forward to contribute. I think the biggest hurdle the program has to get over is becoming a brand and a logo that the community and alumni become invested in. We have the population and the alumni to become a major sports school but the history and tradition is not there yet to keep people engaged. The more people jump on the bandwagon the quicker the train moves. I donāt know how to keep the momentum going other than keep winning and as individual fans keep talking proud about the program trying to get others interested. -
Oats and Hodgson will be great recruiters, theyāll sell the program well. Uptempo fun basketball that kids will want to play. It will be sloppy, but it will be exciting sloppy. The plan worked great in the MAC, I donāt see a reason why it wonāt in the SEC unless he canāt recruit at the level of guys like Pearl and Calipari.
-
Well this is a tease! Edit: it doesnāt surprise me though, all our ānewsā has come from people with an agenda so far
-
No, he accepted the position before he left
-
Lol is he surprised by that? Heās posing with recruits in Bama gear. Either heās a few cans short of a 6 pack or he wanted to stay with our ex coach all along.
-
He improved the teamās record every year he was there, and he did it at 25 years old!
-
Fife has not failed at anything heās done
-
Any thoughts about us waiting for Michigan state to lose so we can interview Fife? Rumor has it heās turned down head coaching gigs before (Duquesne), but maybe he listens to Alnuttās pitch and gives us a go
-
I donāt at all mind Alnutt taking his time. This is the most important hire in program history
-
Hahahahaha yeah Hodgson better not be our coach at this point. Hopefully itās better than it looks (maybe UB already told him theyāre moving in a new direction).
-
Obviously we donāt know the whole story or timeline of things but from an outside perspective and speculation it sure seems like Hodgson has had one foot out the door since oats left. Not the look you want if youāre trying to become the next coach here. Do we know for sure he flew down to bama with Nate?
-
Thatās nice to see. Graves also posted on Twitter some pictures of him in a UB uniform. Hopefully these guys give the new coach an opportunity to come in and sell them on their vision.
-
Need some more rumors! Was hoping something would leak out today
-
Iām sorry John but this is absurd
-
Iām mostly concerned with Graves, Jordan, Segu, and Jeenathan. Hopefully Alnutt ur talking to them about how they feel about things
-
And if Hodgson is named head coach, Hawkins goes to Alabama anyway.
-
Bucky? Is that you? In all seriousness though, the school understands fully what big time athletics can do for its public profile and enrollment. President Tripathi has said as much himself
-
Youāre probably right. But if people expect us to become a big time program we have to be able to compete like one. Unless our donor base and boosters increase, we honestly donāt deserve to be in a different class than the rest of the MAC. Canāt think big if we donāt act big.
-
If they can bring in a name like that they should offer them everything our ex coach was getting.
-
Iām starting to lean towards a bigger name. Mike Anderson, Tim Miles, Avery Johnson š unfortunately we havenāt heard anything except a rumor that we reached out to Anderson. It sounds like Lanier could be a good get, but Iāll admit failing at sienna scares me off a little. The fact that he spent the next decade learning from the biggest names in the business could serve him well though, and all indications are heās a great recruiter
-
What does any of this have to do with my point. You blamed Alnutt for signing Oats to an extension, which is crazy. You feel betrayed? Fine. Thatās your prerogative. But donāt blame the AD for doing what he could given the circumstances
-
No. Wrong. Without the extension his buyout is WAY less. Iām sorry but Iād rather the team have an extra 300k to work with than protect some fans hurt feelings.
