Is Chet to UB basketball what Duane is to the Sabres? 🤯 I tend to agree with your main points. I think passion is lacking. Passion informs preparation and defensive intensity, both of which have felt lacking much of this season. I'm also afraid that ambition may be lacking. Hurley and Oates both had ascendant career paths that helped our program share in that rise (and vice versa to an extent). I can't imagine that Whitesell imagined he'd ever get the keys at this point in his career to a rising mid-major full of momentum. I worry about us settling, him being content. I know he's a competitive guy and certainly wants to win probably more than any of us on here, but sitting behind the bench this year watching him closely has caused me concern. He often looks exasperated and lacking answers. I'm not sure his short-handed staff has been particularly impressive either and I worry they may be in a bit over their heads. That said, hopefully these guys have some March magic in them from these past years. It's going to be a very tough run. Our opponents are going to revel in the chance to drive the stake through our heart and end our dominant run. And that's without mentioning the vaunted MAC officiating cabal. Go damn Bulls.

Whitesell is playing a similar style to Oates, but I'm becoming worried he doesn't know how to coach within that style.

If that's the case I'd look JUCO big, JUCO wing, physical HS SG. Skogman looks athletic in that clip. Hopefully he's calibrating that shot in his redshirt year, gonna be a weapon next year.

Let's hope he ends up somewhere in between the two outcomes. That would be a pretty strong MAC player regardless. If Brock returns for his senior year, the bigs rotation of him, Mballa, Skogman and Hardnett will be set and strong. The Staton interest makes sense to me, as I think a big physical guard who can play mid-major SF/wing is what next year's roster needs most. Gallion is showing some promise but we need competition there.

There aren't really any "UB sources" since Oats and Co left. Regular Joes sleuthing around stuff like this have turned up just as much news and content as any "source" this year. No one breaks news, interviews recruits, figures out new targets. That being said, I don't think we should be good riddancing this kid yet. Let's wait and see. No reason to think that him maybe being unsettled at Paul VI is at all connected to us.

It's the coaching guys. Sure some elite on-court leadership could mitigate it some. But we've seen this so much this year, dating back to the joke losses to Dartmouth and Army. Jim better wake up.

Just nice to have a new prospect to consider after months being dormant.

Minor snow storm this morning and this evening. Expecting a weak crowd based on that and recent results. The enthusiasm is definitely down from my anecdotal interactions.

Definitely support a grad transfer shooter. I wouldn't write off the freshmen though - especially Josiah in terms of shooting. He'd probably be the best shooter on the team today. Plus plenty of freshman who are relatively unheralded perform in the MAC, such as the midget from Western, and the kid Zeigler from BG got solid minutes.

Embarrassing effort level. Whitesell is no motivator, and the X's and O's ain't much to write home about either.
