  1. I won’t root for coach Jack, Dyashia or any asst. coach or player who abandoned our commmunity. I paid to see them play basketball, enjoyed watching immensely, but now…Meh…who cares? Same goes for whichever team they went to after they left UB. GO BULLS.
  2. Yes, but a scholarship at a D1 university is not without value. That is a “contract”, albeit one that is not long term. There’s probably some middle ground that would provide players a reasonable amount of mobility while at the same time provide the sports program/coach some increase in continuity.
  3. Hoping wherever she lands I can catch a few games on TV.
  4. These “kids” are no younger than many professional athletes in the NHL, MLB, professional rugby, etc. who are under contract. There are penalties for leaving those organizations while under contract. NCAA D1 basketball isn’t that removed from pro sports, especially now that NCAA has allowed athletes (I’ve mothballed the term “student-athlete”) to cash in on their “name, image and likeness”. I’m in favor of some control over college “unrestricted free agency”.
  5. Is there a drop-dead date for when players in the portal can no longer go back to their original-school scholarship? Or is the scholarship negated the moment the player enters the portal?
  6. Am I wrong to think SU currently has decent recruits - scholarship players who may be as or more talented than our players not named Fair or Woolley? Also, as much as I like and respect FLJ, I wonder how many current SU players will buy into her “message”.
  7. FLJ has had a special relationship with her players that translated to success on the floor and appealed to the public, as evidenced by a pretty steady growth in fans during her tenure at UB. I hate to see that go. Coach would be a fool to not try to take Fair and maybe Woolley with her if she goes to SU or any other program. As for her replacement, I don’t have a deep well of faith in our AD, and I don’t think UB will pay the kind of money it would take to hire a coach that could maintain the team at the current level of success. Just my 2 cents.
  8. I am a big fan of the women’s game (and women’s sports in general, having coached ranked HS and college women’s rugby teams plus having an uber-jock daughter). Regardless, I honestly can’t recall the last time I watched an entire UCONN game.
  9. I believe you are right about the NCAAW motivation for home games being awarded to the top teams in the early rounds. But I find this method to promote interest in their game pretty sleazy and pathetic. If you have to “cheat” to sell your product what does that say about not only the product, but about you?
  10. It’s a garbage format. The chairwoman of the NCAAW selection committee was going on about fighting for “equity” between what the men and women receive during their respective tournaments, but apparently “competitive fairness” within their own tournament wasn’t on the agenda.
  11. Agreed. Bulls appear to be unable to separate on offense and close on defense…you can coach technique but you can’t teach speed. However, there’s no excuse for poor tackling. Sheesh, if the Bulls coaching staff can’t manage this, just invite the damn rugby coach to practice for a day…
