  1. That’s not necessarily a good example. UB coming off historic season finishing #16 in the country. As you know and we’ve discussed good will and positive momentum hard to build but easily lost. Hopefully your best case scenario happens. I’ll be thrilled if it does.
  2. Love your ongoing positivity. Giving Jim the benefit of the doubt is the right take. But it wasn’t so long ago we dealt with Reggie ball and recruiting. I have absolutely no idea how recruiting will turn out. I hope for the best. And I fear the worst which is the Reggie recruiting record of having open spots this time of year and not being able to find top MAC level talent.
  3. I like it the other way. Sustained excellence while other teams putting their best at you each and every night. I think Boals is there for at least two more and as some friends I know from Ohio they think he’ll likely stay longer.
  4. They’ve got to be, at least on paper, head and shoulders above the rest. Of course that’s on paper so point well taken. But his success thus far is reminiscent of Oats’ trajectory. Beware.
  5. If this guy was a target, then this is bad news. If not, and it was just a flyer on a kid who had some potential then no biggie. We’re into April so it’s time to start landing a recruit and get some momentum going.
  6. Boals is doing an Oats to the MAC. It’ll be Ohio then everyone else. Amazing what great recruiting and success does.
  7. Certainly agree with both statements.
  8. In theory sounds great. But if you’re a recruiting guru their really is no best way to do it. Oats did well with both freshman and transfers.
  9. Oats had a plan to emulate Gonzaga, he had ideas on what was necessary to achieve that, had discussions with AD et. al., and I can tell you that it was given lip service and never taken seriously by those who needed to get behind it. Total fail by a tiny group of people.
  10. Wes could go all the way to the hoop when warranted, nail 3 balls and distribute the ball in an unselfish manner. He also broke pressure without difficulty. His game is what I wanted to see Jayvon develop some, but regrettably never materialized. Segu has the pull up but has yet to master it. I agree with you on #2. And if he played longer than he did likely would be #1 on that list. And I absolutely love Turner!
  11. Clark was awesome wasn’t he? Too bad he didn’t play an entire year or better yet come here much sooner. I loved his pull up jumpers.
  12. Oats effectively recruited very good juco and other transfers who filled in spots for graduating players. So it can be done. You just have to able to recruit.
  13. Ohio had a great run. They had a tough time guarding in the first half especially in the first half. Creighton moved the ball quickly around the horn with sharp crisp passes, excellent shooting and timely dribble drives. But to their credit Ohio fought to the bitter end never giving up. Kudos to them. I’m not sure who they have coming back next year but if most of their core returns they’ll be a tough tram to beat.
  14. This university should always expect to reach the level of success brought by Oats and to a lesser extent Hurley. I thought UB was capable and had potential to be exactly as it was during the Oats/Hurley years going back 30+ years. Unfortunately the powers that be with the exception of the White eta always took the view we cannot do this or that. To which I retort, dammit yes you can! As with anything in life you first must believe then set goals and pursue them without hesitation or doubt. If you fail you’ll still fare better than those who do not have can do or we can’t do this or that attitudes. At least that’s what I’ve always experienced throughout my existence. And everyone here should demand that excellence over mediocrity always be pursued at UB.
  15. Gotcha. I see McRea and I think if Javon naturally. Montell did a great job for us.
  16. Just a point about McRea. UB went win its first MAC Championship after he graduated. His class was a disappointing one. Aside from him the other four year seniors didn’t improve nearly enough for that class to get anywhere near its potential. Of course I think Hurley royally screwed up that quarterfinal game against EMU. But good points everywhere else.
  17. They shot horribly for most of the game missing a lot of layups and free throws. But they went on a nice run after the 10 minute mark
  18. Bama still up 1 with 10 minutes left.
  19. You might want to tune into TBS for the second half of the Alabama Iona game. 33-32 at half with Alabama up by 1. They look totally out of control on offense.
  20. That was just edited to include blue and white link as the post indicates. The predecessor link to the excellence fund was taken down at some point within that last couple of years.
  21. They aren’t if you appreciate team basketball. Kudos to them. They win 3 in a row in blow out fashion. This is a reply to TML
  22. At least for me based on last year and 8-9 games ago I no way expected to see them make the championship game. They exceeded my expectations. I suspect most of us would have taken an appearance and loss in the title game before the season began. So kudos on what by most measures was a fine season. Just a real sour note to go out like a lamb.
  23. +1. They play team basketball. They play much smarter basketball than we do.
  24. He has zero interest in playing D
