  1. Polian is making less than what Mo was paid and should stay at John Carroll.
  2. You're right. I was looking at a website that had the rules incorrectly cited. From the NCAA rule book: The following pertain to a designated spot: a The designated spot is the location at which a thrower-in is presented disposal of the ball out of bounds as in Rules 4-101a through c b The designated spot shall be 3 feet wide with no depth limitation c The thrower-in must keep one foot on or over the designated spot until the ball is released Pivot foot restrictions and the traveling rule are not in effect for a throw-in d The thrower-in shall not leave the designated spot until they have released the ball and the thrown-in ball crosses the plane of the sideline or end line
  3. Agreed on the uncalled 3 second violations but, assuming you're talking about the inbounding play at the end of the third quarter, the it was the correct call. Because it was an out of bounds call, KLW (the inbounder) needed to have one foot planted when inbounding. Amazingly none of the Akron players noticed it despite it happening right in front of them.
  4. https://ubbulls.com/news/2024/1/9/ub-football-announces-three-future-opponents.aspx Two games against Army have been canceled.
  5. SUNY has been waiving a lot more application fees recently, including a blanket waiver* for a couple of weeks in 2023. That's probably what's increasing that number. I had no interest in the other university centers but a free application might have changed my backup plans. SUNY schools were the only schools I actually paid an application fee for, so I only applied to the two I visited. Despite the UAlbany campus' attractive prison aesthetics, they got some of my hard earned money. *Waiver is only for New York residents which is quite a decision since New York has a 3.8x the number of reasons to attract out of state students here. Maybe eventually those in charge will open their eyes and decide to change course. 🤷‍♂️
  6. https://www.buffalo.edu/provost/oia/facts-publications/factbook/student/applications-admitted-and-enrolled.html Note that I'm referring to less selective in terms of acceptance rate, which isn't a 100% comprehensive view of selectivity. The incoming freshman class in 2022 actually had higher submitted SAT/ACT scores than the 2013 incoming freshman class, but the percent submitting those scores went from 84% in 2013 to 33% in 2022 so there's a bit of selection bias there which makes it an inaccurate comparison.
  7. I really do not see how these should be exclusive in any way. Athletics boosts academics. SUNY (as a system) is losing a lot of enrollment and facing budget problems. UB has the money and reputation to stay above that, but has been getting slightly less selective. Athletics is effectively a marketing arm of the school. Need to get more people interested in going to the school.
  8. Georgia Tech ranked 127, 72, 94 in total offense yards per game under Patenaude. They dropped to 115 after he was fired. Was the OC for Temple in 2017 and 2018 under Collins where they went to a bowl game in back to back years. At Coastal Carolina his teams went 8-5, 12-3, 12-2, 9-3, 10-2. Led Georgetown to their only winning season (8-3) this millennium. Seems like he could be a good hire if Georgia Tech was just a bad fit.
  9. Where do you propose the ~million dollars a year for this comes from? The UB band's operating budget isn't anywhere near that currently. Nobody here has been making that argument. Only lawmakers make that argument because they don't want a team to move on their watch. Are you even in New York? In New York you can't bet on college sports that involve New York teams. I don't bet on sports and I know this. You've successfully derailed yet another thread from discussing our subpar sports teams to insane conservative conspiracy theories. Isn't there a more appropriate place for this, that's not this forum?
  10. Massey has a ranking system too, they're a little bit higher than NET but still in low 200's. Yesterday's game dropped UB out of the 100's. https://masseyratings.com/cbw2024/979
  11. The game experience is very different for individuals only there for a game compared to families with kids. I'm there pretty much only for the game and the band but I acknowledge that there's a need for entertainment outside of the 40 minutes of play. It's necessary to keep students engaged and coming to the game too. If it's not engaging they could just watch the game in their dorm room. Or not care at all.
  12. I know we haven't played the toughest competition but we did sweep the little 3 and have a winning record....
  13. Generally agree with what you said. Some random comments. Jack Kreuzer (WBB Radio PBP) is amazing behind the mic during the game and today before the game singing the national anthem. I hope for selfish reasons that he does not make a career of sports broadcasting and we can keep him on Bulls games forever, because he's better than most of the traveling ESPN crew we've had. His radio calls remind me of Mets hall of fame radio broadcaster Howie Rose in the level of detail and not skipping a beat when calling games. Truly incredible talent. The 94 Feet video segment is great to know the players more. I do like that this year Jack is interviewing the players, which is great. There was one year (possibly last year) where it was players interviewing each other. One of those segments opened with "Hi ___" "Hi ____" "What's up?" "Oh nothin' much." and I make fun of it every time I see the 94 Feet video. I was indifferent about Jenna H doing it when she was here. I thought she was a great in recapping UB games, did not think she was amazing at those interviews. Pep band is better than it was when I was in it. Full band including drumline and they're standing and making noise the entire time. Hell yeah. I liked the inclusion of the Seneca Nation during halftime at the Bona game for Native American Heritage Day. And I think I remember a Diwali dance earlier this season. Great showcase of the diversity on UB's campus and in WNY. Ok now onto the bitching. I generally don't watch stuff at halftime or during media timeouts so I don't care much about the actual sponsor promotions (half court shot vs putting). But I care more about if it's executed well vs a complete mess. DJ Milk and DJ Yes I've complained about for long enough now. "Ok Bulls fans let me see you out there!" *5 year old kid goes on the video board* "Aww yeah he lit he lit" please stop. I understand we have a sponsorship with Tully's that we have to have the dumb turtle at every game, but Victor needs to be out there every game as well. This is not just a this year issue. Noticed some delay today between a timeout being called and music being played. Normally I don't hear the f-bombs from the WBB home bench directed at the players, today I did. I don't know who's fault it was today for the music issue (seems like they had the older group's music but not the younger group's), but a sound check prior to the game is standard. Seems like that didn't happen. Don't know if it's new or required for some donor thing, but I had to look away watching the entire WBB team go for high fives down the courtside seats and the first row of the 100's after the awful performance today. They knew they played awful.
  14. she’s had a good amount of awful shots this game, she can also make some shots too. Davis should be playing a lot more than she is. Decent defender, great rebounder.
  15. I don't know what this is supposed to mean or the point you are trying to make, but I can guarantee you that 29% of D1 players do not make it to the majors. Nope, you have us confused with somewhere else. Perhaps The Buffalo News comments or local news Facebook comments? This is not true for UB student athletes at all. If you're comparing UB to colleges that do not give athletic scholarships that's comparing apples to avocados.
  16. Close game between SDSU and UAlbany. Reminiscent of yesterday's NFL game where Malcolm Koonce had himself a game.
  17. This doesn't really answer my question.
  18. How do you feel about the NHL Combine, where 17 and 18 year olds across the world are sent to Buffalo to be similarly evaluated?
  19. Congratulations to Danny White and Allen Greene! Still paying dividends to UB years later
  20. Do we see Graham for the Richmond game now?
  21. Well our disgraced ex-governor killed that. UB was open to it. I did not like it (ever been to a Temple game?), but it makes more sense than Orchard Park. Orchard Park is in the middle of the snow belt, less central for the WNY population, very little public transportation, and not a lot of highways which makes entrance and exit awful. As much as I hate the idea of people jumping through flaming tables on the campus of a university with an exceptional reputation on Sundays, it's better than parking lots in Orchard Park being empty 350 days of the year. I hope that someday my (future) grandkids will be able to attend the grand opening of the metrorail expansion that costs $100 billion and 50 years from shovel in the ground to train running through.
  22. In theory you could do that, but in reality you have to find a new conference and add/change sports to comply with that conference's membership requirements. Schools that axe football also don't just give that money over to the other programs. When UB cut four sports in 2016 the school just lowered the subsidy given to athletics, and did not allocate that money to the other sports. UAB, after shutting down football in 2014 in a political hit job, reversed course and reinstated the football program despite the school's large subsidy to athletics. I went into detail here looking at other schools' decision to drop to FCS or drop football entirely. The end result is unless your team is bankrolled by Charles Koch your basketball program is not going to be more successful and will likely be less successful.
  23. Since the stadium was built we went from FCS to FBS. Since the scoreboard was installed we won a conference championship, multiple division championships, had a first round NFL pick, had a running back nearly break the single game yards record, and a top 25 finish. We shouldn’t be punting on improving the stadium to at least a low level FBS experience because Mo Linguist can’t hire a competent offensive coordinator. ETA: Waiting for success to improve facilities is one of the reasons Nate Oats isn’t still here (outside of the whole multi-millions of dollars). Oats says I want a dedicated practice facility. Great! We have the triple gym which is much better than any other MAC facility. But you need a rec center for the students. Between university and/or SUNY bureaucracy it is 4 years later and last I checked there’s no student rec center being built. In fact, UB health services just opened up an office off north campus recently which makes me think this is not a priority for anybody right now.
