  1. 2 factors matter this season: 1. Make the tournament 2. Show that the future is bright with the younger guys Whitesell needs to accomplish at least 1 of these to get another year in my book. Otherwise, I'd be willing to start the fund to bring Hodgson home. I can't stand what Hodgson did at the end of his UB tenure, but I was impressed with his support of our guys in the TBT tourney. I would be willing to give him a shot. We know he can recruit and he would be less likely to deviate from the Nate Oats system than Whitesell who has been a college head coach for over 25 years.
  2. Honestly, nothing matters until March anyway so why not play a full bench in every game?
  3. This is getting ridiculous. SFA winning 20+ games in one of the worst conferences in Div1 hoops has nothing to do with the fact that they are ranked somewhere in the 100-150 range this season. If anyone thought this Buffalo team was going to challenge for an at-large then this loss destroyed that opportunity. Not to mention, we basically just missed the front end of a 1-and-1 because now we get to play #228 Illinois State instead of #94 St Louis. It is an incredibly bad loss and it basically ended anyone's need to watch the rest of the regular season. I still don't understand how anyone can say that this team isn't a complete disappointment so far. We are down in nearly every statistical category YoY - PPG, Rebounding, Assists, Steals, Blocks... and if it weren't for a miracle comeback against UNT we would be 1 and 3. If you told me a couple of weeks ago that we would go 2-2 in our first 4 games and get completely outplayed by everyone except Rider then I would've been pissed. We have started every game completely flat-footed and we look like we don't have a strategy or even an identity yet - which is extremely disconcerting since this is one of the oldest, most experienced teams in the country.
  4. At the beginning of the season we thought this was a potential at-large team. In reality, this is a middling d1 team that might have a shot at the MAC championship if they hit a streak. beyond disappointing so far.
  5. Can we criticize this team yet? Christ, they look pathetic. 18 turnovers.
  6. Wow, talk about bad shooting - Akron was 1 of 18 from the 3pt line vs Fordham.
  7. No problem with your post outside of this statement. The only thing that matters to a midmajor in basketball is getting to the tourney and considering our past 2 coaches made it 4 out of 5 years, I think it's pretty reasonable to expect our current coach to make it once in 3 years.
  8. While I agree with this statement in some capacity, I don't think it's fair to suggest that a midmajor basketball program fighting to maintain some semblance of relevancy is comparable to one of the most stable and successful professional teams in the world. If Liverpool was ever being threatened with relegation I don't think their fans would be singing. And if we miss the tourney for the 3rd year in a row after making it 4 of the previous 5, I don't think we should be singing either.
  9. Agreed, that one was a stretch but the other 3 mentioned are putting up a better or equal showing to anything we've done so far this year. The point is, we aren't clear favorites anymore given the way we've played. Again, that UNT team lost 7 of its 12 players from last year's roster and 60% of its scoring, yet we were the team that had no chemistry, playing lazy defense and turning the ball over 15 times.
  10. You really think we're still obvious MAC favorites? Ohio is 3-0 with double digit wins over a top-75 Belmont team and a Cleveland State team that's pretty similar to North Texas. Miami is 2-0 with a win over an ACC team. Akron took Ohio State to the wire. Hell, even EMU had a better showing against Indiana than we've had in our first 2. It looks to me like the MAC is just a wide open race with 3-4 teams that could all easily win the tourney. I think we all expected a bit more at this point given that this team is easily the oldest and most experienced in the conference.
  11. Some stats: Segu turned the ball over 5x with only 4 assists. Yikes, he's a senior and he still forces plays. Starting 5 scored 66 points, bench scored 3 points. We turned the ball over 15x and got really lucky at the end to make 10 straight shots (5 threes, 4 layups, and a free throw).
  12. Look, I'm happy we won the game but for christ sake why is our senior-laden team the one making all of the mistakes in the first 2 games of the year against freshman teams? That team lost 60% of its offense and had absolutely no problem playing right through us. Granted the reffing was atrocious but there was nothing impressive about that performance and I'm not nearly as hopeful as I was a week ago about winning the MAC this year.
  13. Seriously, can our crypt-keeper of a coach lose his $hit on these refs already!? I'm so sick of this. Nate would be screaming his a$$ off and Bobby would've thrown a damn basketball into their faces.
  14. WTF kind of call is that?? We finally make a good stop and there's just a random a$$ whistle on us? Christ!
  15. This is my fear. If this isn't the year then when will Whitesell win a championship? Never?
  16. Remember when we thought we were going to be a tourney team this year? Took 2 games...
  17. I'm not sure I agree. They were a Cinderella story in the Tourney last year, they were regular season CUSA champs the year before, and they won the entire CBI tourney a couple years before that. This isn't UAlbany here, they're pretty decent. It also sounds like they're expecting a good crowd too so I think we're in for a tighter game. Given our expectations though I think we can pull it out. All I want is better outside shooting and a team that doesn't look completely lost for the first 10 minutes.
  18. UNT has one of the best Jazz Music programs in the country with notable alums like Tom Bones Malone (Blues Brothers), Nora Jones, and Jeff Coffin from Dave Matthews Band. My brother attended and played in their infamous light night Lab Bands. It's a pretty interesting school.
  19. North Texas was a great team last year. They won the CUSA and upset Purdue in the tournament. That said, of the 12 guys on their roster last year only 5 remain on the team this year. They lost 60% of their point production as well as their top 2 scorers who were both former UB Bulls - James Reese & Javion Hamlet. Those 2 alone accounted for nearly 40% of UNT's total points last year. We are one of the most experienced teams in the country. This is a game we should be able to win.
  20. Well, Coach (coming to reason) had this team as pumped up for this game as a person going into a root canal. We played scared the entire first half and we forgot that the basis of our fast-paced offense was stout defense. I would do just about anything for a Dontay Caruthers or an Andy Robinson. Those type of guys are the only reason we won games.
  21. It doesn’t matter if Michigan is a top team. We’ve taken top teams to the wire with fvcking Reggie teams. This is an absolute joke. A flat UB squad that wasn’t prepared for this game at all. I don’t have high hopes for this season anymore.
  22. We look like garbage. Whitesell didn’t have this team prepared at all for this game and Juwan Howard is making him look like a fool.
  23. If there's one thing I'm not worried about with Mo it's recruiting. I'm confident he'll get the players here, I'm just not sold yet on his ability to gameplan.
  24. NIU about to take down Washington. This UW team is pretty weak but still another P5 win for the MAC.
  25. This season is on Lance Leipold. Next season is on Mo.
