  1. I think at this point, Kenpom can go suck an egg. If you have to create a field called "luck factor" to explain why your model deviates so far from wins and losses then your model is crap.
  2. Honest question, how the hell are we #111 in Kenpom? We are .500 with our best win coming against #145 Ball State. 4 of our 5 losses came to teams ranked well below us included a loss to #189 Army. Is that 1 close loss against Syracuse the only thing carrying us or are these rankings skewed by prior seasons? I'm not sure the methodology they use but something seems wrong when we're 1 spot above a Texas A&M team that has wins over 2 top100 teams (beat #67 Auburn and #76 Miss St).
  3. I thought the Bowling Green game was bad and that it was going to be an outlier in the MAC season. Instead, we follow it up with perhaps the least inspirational first half of basketball in the past decade. What the hell happened to this team? Why does Graves look like he's gotten consistently worse and doesn't even belong on the floor anymore? Why are we asleep at the wheel at the beginning of every game? Where is the ball movement? The blue collar mentality? All of the things that Oats demanded of his players are now just marketing tools that the team obviously isn't buying into anymore.
  4. Has there been a campaign aimed directly at fixing UB Stadium? I'd certainly contribute if it existed!
  5. I didn't realize that Chanse left the team before the incident. Either way, it still reflects poorly on coaching when they bring in guys that get involved in stabbings, batteries, and kidnappings. I don't care if it happens before or after their time at UB.
  6. Whitesell really seems to have control here...
  7. We're going to need the help because this matchup is pretty terrible for us imo. Marshall is the #2 rush defense in the country.
  8. I actually like Leipold. I just don't understand his coordinators and their playcalling. We've been watching Koetelnicki make horrible calls for years and in that Championship game I lost my voice screaming at the tv every time Borland decided to rush nobody on 3rd and long for Ball State. Can Lance please hold someone accountable for yet another let down? Or is he going to continue treating this like a D3 team where your buddies from the bar get to hold their assistant positions for years without any repercussions for bad performance? I'm happy we went 5-0 and got an undeserved top-25 ranking thanks to 1 phenomenal day by Patterson, but we beat schools that were a combined 6-18 (and none of them even had to play a nonconference game). We were a decent MAC team and that's all. We need some changes after this latest installment of the "Lance Leipold Letdown" show and I hope he finally pulls the trigger. Otherwise, I'm joining the bandwagon that him leaving is actually not a bad thing.
  9. Just to add to my last remarks, we are NOT a top-25 team. The only reason we were considered one is because Patterson went on a friggin tear against Kent State and turned some heads with his ridiculous stats. Otherwise, we are just the benefactors of an easy schedule and the fact that no MAC team played a nonconference game to show where they actually stood against other conferences. If you think that Lance somehow took over a 4-6 program and made them a true top-25 program then you are delusional.
  10. Congrats Illini, you just received the least motivating coach of all time. He managed to pump up his team enough to lose to an FCS school 1 year after crushing them by 37. He led a team to a brutal loss in the MAC Championship after holding a 19pt lead late in the third. He led a team to lose the MAC Championship again 2 yrs later when they were favored by two touchdowns. He also thought it was a great idea to start a freshman QB over a proven commodity so he could attempt an RPO offense where we went 2-4 before an injury to that freshman finally derailed his experiment so the original projected QB could come back in and proceed to go 6-1. He hasn't won a big game unless you think Rutgers is good. I love Lance as a person, I have loved his interviews, and the culture he has built. He is a genuine dude and I enjoyed watching him succeed against crap teams like Akron. But his attachment to his god awful D3 coordinators was a massive mistake. Kotelnicki constantly managed to outthink himself and Borland, despite his moments, was often over his head. If Lance is headed to Urbana-Champaign then I really hope he takes those guys with him. Illini, I expect you'll have some great wins against Rutgers and down-and-out Nebraska, but I wouldn't bet on competing with the OSU's anytime with this staff.
  11. To each's own but I don't agree that it's as simple as that. We're shooting 31% on the year from 3pt so one good shooting game against one of the worst teams in the conference might not be a good gauge. The good news is that our 3pt% has increased every game this season so perhaps you're right. We'll see. I just think it's a completely different beast going up against the 2-3 zone. We haven't shown great perimeter ball movement imo and that's what it takes to get open looks against a team like Syracuse. Either that or you try to outrun them with transition offense and I'm just not sure we have the speed that we used to a couple years ago to play that type of game against high talent teams.
  12. Yep. I just haven't seen anything this year that makes me think we have the ball movement and outside shooting to take advantage of the zone. We aren't going to be able to drive down the lane the way we have been. I'm no basketball expert though so maybe I'm wrong. We'll see.
  13. The problem is that we don't "drive and kick it out" we just drive and drive until we either make a layup or get blocked. Our passing has been pretty awful. I expect Cuse to have about 900 blocks on Graves and Williams unless we figure out how to move the ball around on offense.
  14. Lovie Smith made 10x what Lance makes at UB. He will definitely be leaving if he's offered that level of money. That said, I hope he holds out for something a bit better than Illinois. That's a tough place to win in.
  15. Can you imagine Penn State having to go to UB to play in our stadium? Yikes! The smallest stadium in the Big10 is still 50k so I'm thinking a nice donation of about $100MM oughta do the trick. Check or cash?
  16. Danny White was the high-water mark of this program.
  17. Loved this kid's videos. I don't care if he's a little shorter, he can finish around the rim and has the weight on him to body up in the MAC. I think he's gonna be legit. Welcome aboard!!!
  18. The fact that our student section is non-existent during break seems to indicate that the only students that give a $hit about this program are from outside of WNY. One Buffalo!
  19. Here is a Bonafan quote from after the game that just makes you feel sooooooooooooooooo good about this win! 😆 There is no point in the existence of UB. You would get the exact same education from listening to lectures on youtube. They print out 50,000 diplomas a year and frequently win their high school level league and still can't get anyone to care unless it's free t-shirt night It's a soulless commuter state school that no one on Earth cares about. The only people that wind up there are international applicants that don't realize they're not going to NYC who become shitty pediatricians and local pizza shop employees/bar backs who have to sign up for 6 credits a semester so they can continue to live rent free in the house their mom kept in the divorce. UB is inherently transactional and irrelevant even to its own alumni. An embarrassment to what higher education should be. Free Lester.
  20. Cmon Kevin, Did Gabe Grant steal your girlfriend or something? Your petty attacks of one of our own guys is getting embarrassing.
  21. This was the worst defensive showing by a UB team I’ve ever seen at Alumni Arena and I’ve been following the team adamantly since 2003.
  22. What the hell is wrong with this team? Beat Harvard and DePaul in Chicago, lose at home to Army and Dartmouth?
  23. I'd have no problem if someone took this D3 squad away from us. I was done with them the day they lost to Albany. They'd need a national championship for me to forget that debacle.
