  1. I assume Salmons is not longer on the team since she no longer appears on UB Women's Roster. So very sad that we can barely field a team.
  2. Thanks for the update. I was unaware that Watson was ineligible and that Nwora is out for the year. So the only hope in the short term is getting Salmons back? I haven't been too impressed with her either. Not too much offense or defense out of her. Still makes for a lot of MIA players.
  3. I'm just wondering why we can't get more players on the court. jp_paige, you seem to be "in the know". Why isn't Watson playing in games? Any idea what happened to Nwora? And why hasn't Ellis played in the past few games? Ellis averaged 20 minutes in her first 5 games and only 5 minutes> And now not even playing in the last 2 games. Not much productivity out of her.
  4. As I heard on the radio broadcast a few games ago, the coaches are trying to find ways to give the 6 that are playing rests during play by bringing up the ball slowly and other "slow" play. In a loose ball in the middle of the 3rd quarter, Young dribbled it off her own foot and just gave up on going after the ball and let NIU have it. Two NIU players laying on the court and all Young needed to do was grab the ball for "jump ball". But instead, she just walked away. UB was up by a point at that point and couldn't score and gave up too many wide-open threes after that. This team needs more energy, in particular, to improve their rebounding. The best rebounder is Winfield and not much after that. Also, during one of the timeouts, Coach BB was again in somebody's face on the bench. I don't know who she was yelling at and I forget what she said. Everybody in the arena could hear her. Just curious if the players like/respect the coach. Also, curious why more players aren't playing. Nwora was already mentioned. Salmons is "away from the team for personal reasons". Caelan Ellis Freshman Played in 13 games for 158 minutes. Not played since 1/28. Briyanna Baron Senior (Walkon?) Played 5 minutes in 2 games Olivia DeBortoli Senior Volleyball recruit 1 game for 1 minute Chellia Watson No games On the radios after the game, they said that next year's recruiting class is #1 (not that I understand how that was determined). Is their hope for this team "next year"?
  5. I've only read a spattering of comments in this thread but here are a few random comments: Dunks during warmup: I see no problem with his. It gets their energy out of their system. Other practice would be nice too. Slow starts: Anybody notice that most of the missed baskets at the beginning of the game are long. I think these kids just have too much adrenaline. See earlier comment. Defense: I wish UB would play a closer defense like Akron did. Not a big fan of zone or switching off to give up wide-open threes. Fast Breaks: UB only wins when they score (quickly) on fast breaks. Hard for them to drive the lane once the defense is setup. Students: I think it was an excellent turnout by the students at the game. Many even stuck around until the end. Nice to see. General Atmosphere: Great atmosphere at the start of the game (until it started to get away from UB). Nice to see the band, cheerleaders and dancers back. Pyrotechnics pregame: Wimpy. I hope that equipment was rented. Concession, in general: I've been going to the games for 20 years. I never buy anything from the (overpriced) concessions. What I do buy (sometimes) is a pop from the vending machine. Unless you have a kid, there is no need to buy anything from the concessions. I can go 2 hours without food. Concession, food selection/quality. I don't even think concession has a grill. The hotdogs and sausages are either brought in cooked or "rolled" to death to be cooked. PA Announcements: Nane, and relentless noise? You do realize that everything what comes out of the PA Announcer is entirely scripted (except for the in-game announcements). It is all the promos he needs to read. Never does he add rambling thoughts. Yes, it can be loud. Yes, the DJ might be one rambling but that is not very often (and only added in the past few seasons).
  6. It could be implied the "tasting" is beer since Southern Tier Brewing will be there but for what I know, we'll be tasting water. But, maybe it's a blood tasting since UB MD will be there. They could have made it more clear.
  7. Here is a current update: (Former) UB Men Josh Mballa (Ole Miss): 16 games averaging 9.4 minutes, 54 points (3.4 points per game) and 37 rebounds. Ty Perry (New Haven): One game, 31 minutes for 6 points. Lucas Saleh (Belmont Abbey): No games. Tra'Von Fagan (UMBC): 22 games. Average 15.9 minutes, 7.5 points, and 5.7 rebounds per game. David Skogman (Davidson): 21 games, 22.2 minutes, 6.6 points and 4.2 rebounds per game. Made 13 of 40 3-point shots. (Former) UB Women Dyaisha Fair (Syracuse): 21 games, 35.0 minutes, 19.9 points, 4 assists per game. 38.3 FG% 34.7 3PT% Georgia Woolley (Syracuse): 18 games, 27.8 minutes, 9.8 points, 2 assists per game. 37.6 FG% 25.7 3PT% Saniaa Wilson (Syracuse): 18 games, 8.9 minutes, 4.0 points, 0 assists per game. 65.1 FG% Cheyenne McEvans (Syracuse): 15 games, 13.5 minutes, 3.1 points, 1 assist per game. 40.0 FG% 16.7 3PT% Dominique Camp (Akron): 19 games, 30.6 minutes, 11.8 points per game. 46.2 FG% 24.4 3PT% Adebola Adeyeye (Kentucky): 20 games, 16.7 minutes, 3.8 points per game. 55.2 FG% Loren Christie (USF): 19 games, 12.7 minutes, 4.6 points, 3.1 rebounds per game. 34.8 FG% 20.0 3PT% Nia Jordan (Bethune-Cookman): 12 games, 21.3 minutes, 6.3 points per game. 35.4 FG% Casey Valenti Paea (Long Beach State): No games. Kaelonn Wilson (Binghamton): 19 games, 4.1 minutes, 0.7 points per game. 53.8 FG%
  8. Young, Winfield, and Stone combined for 11-47 from the field and 1-12 from 3FG. The team shot only 27% from the field. And at least TWICE, Young was called for shot clock violation and had no clue the clock was running out. Nice to see Odgen go 5-11 from 3FG. Shows she's probably better at the arc than playing inside. Again, the girls faded baldly in the 4th quarter (gave up 24 points and only made 11). Ogden, Young, Winfield and Stone each played at least 39 minutes. They need to find some depth (and offense). Interesting shot chart )not that I think it's accurate/correct). UB missed too many inside the arc shots.

  10. I always feel bad when bench players get little to no playing time (especially if they transferred into the program). I guess that's why I'm not a coach. I understand the need for wins, but in this day of the "Transfer Portal", how much playing time does a bench player need to get before they decide the "grass is greener" elsewhere? Why wasn't Perkins dressed?
  11. You crazy!! Some more pictures from UB Men's Basketball FB page (Prior to the game): I assume the rankings are for ALL D1. #2 in the country for Fast Break Points? And you want them to slow it down? Fast Break points come from hustle. Not only are the "points" easy layout, it's also very exciting. I feel UB doesn't do as well when they try to run "set plays". More fast break points, please.
  12. I wasn't going to respond to this but here I am after UB Men's Basketball posted on FB. Two different posts. One for each bullet. This one about the hardhats. Keep them. It rewards players that work hard. Just look at these pictures: At least the coaches stopped wearing the "mechanics" uniforms during warmups.
  13. Did I accidently join a Bills forum? As if the Bulls discussion wasn't depressing enough.
  14. UB faded late in the second half. Short bench (only play 8 with Smith only getting 2 minutes) and they just rain out of gas. Why no Ceaser, Madding, or Kanye? At the 9:01 mark, UB was down only 1 point (68-67). By the 1:37 mark, they were down 10 (86-76). During that time, Toledo was shooting lights out and getting rebounds: FG2 7-10 (4-6 in the paint, 2-4 layups and a dunk) FG3 1-1 FT 1-3 TO-3 DRB-5 ORB-1 While UB was fading and missing clutch 3s: FG2 2-5 (1-4 in the layups/paint) FG3 1-4 FT 2-2 TO-3 DRB-3 ORB-0 Curtis Jones went 1-5 during that time. As the announcers said on the radio (postgame), Toledo was flooding the paint making it hard for UB to penetrate. But UB did manage to get 42 points in the paint (vs 36 for Toledo). Very physical in the paint and not many foul calls down low. Interesting layup stats for both teams: Toledo Buffalo 1st Half: 8-13 9-21 2nd Half: 5-11 8-13 Total: 13-24 17-34 A lot of layup attempts by UB in the first half and better defense on the layup (attempts and made) by UB in the second half. UB had several offensive (charging) fouls in their desire to drive the basket. UB did good when they could get the fast break (23 vs 2). From an entertainment point of view, I didn't think the game was very exciting. The crowd got into it once in the second half after a steal and a quick 3 but otherwise there wasn't much to cheer for.
  15. I couldn't agree more. Whatever Sallee said to the officials about the intentional foul, he did it "nicely" and "quietly". Coach Burke probably felt they were "only" listening to him. And he seemed to win his case. Probably an immature reaction on her part. I'm sure she said something to him (unprofessionally) in the handshake line that cause him to go back at her. Coach Burke probably could have handled that better. Hurley, on the other hand, was usually very vocal towards the officials. Saw a month ago, Hurley was tossed with a double technical in one game. As I've said before, from where I was sitting, I didn't see anything related to the Intentional Foul. Not saying it didn't happen. I just didn't see it. I assume the officials saw something since they went to the video replay. They wouldn't have just made it up. It would have been nice to see a replay in the Arena for the fans to judge.
  16. We all remember Bobby Hurley when he was here. The King of complaining to the officials. He was a little more vociferous. I was always interested in the over-under on how many Technicals he'd get in a game.
  17. I stand corrected. Looks like Sallee went after Burke but Burke might have said something off camera: Burke Sallee Video
  18. There used to be "press row" in the first row of the South sections but many years ago now they moved that row to the top of the South sections. When I look there during halftime, now, I rarely see anybody sitting there. There used to be signs on the seats with who sits there. Buffalo News, Spectrum, AP, MAC official. Not any more. I'm sure everybody now watches the video feed (live or taped). I believe I've also seen the Video Replay person give something (a copy of the game?) to the officials after the game. Haven't seen this recently, however. Also, I've been going to UB games for 20 years. EVERY year (on this board), is complaints about the officials and lack of attendance while students are on break. About the officiating, I've just given up trying to understand the calls. Give 3 guys (or women) a whistle and everybody wants to blow them to get attention.
  19. How do we know what Allnutt has done or hasn't? We aren't in his office or have a wire-tap on his phone. When I was leaving through the east exit (towards the refs and visiting locker rooms), I was told Allnut was behind us. When I looked back, he was gone. Not sure where he was going and/if he changed his mind. Probably not a good idea to have a hallway "conversation".
  20. I saw absolutely nothing on the intentional foul and it was right in front of me. I think it was Burke that said something to Sallee and not the other way around. Burke just kept walking away after the "handshake" and Sallee was trying to go after her. Also, as Sallee was leaving the court, a UB fan kept yelling at him that UB won the MAC last year. Let me also add that video replays on the scoreboard are few and far between. For the intentional foul, they just replayed the trip part a couple times (which took place 15 seconds before) and not the intentional foul. Extremely few replays are shown. Sometimes I feel like I'd rather watch it on TV. I also found it odd that when the officials came out after halftime, they immediately went to the video replay to look at something. Not sure what they were looking at or why it took a locker room discussion amongst to refs to initiate it? All-in-all, a very ugly finish to a game that was close most of the way. UB was tied near the start of the 4th quarter and to end up losing by 22. They just ran out of "spunk".
  21. In the past, the "additional seat fees" were required and then you would get the parking pass. Not sure if they are still required if you don't want the parking pass. If they changed the rules so that you only need to pay for the seats, then the price of the season tickets actually has gone down. I pass the additional fee and get the parking pass even though I don't really need it. Figure it's my only monetary contribution to UB.
  22. Season ticket prices haven't changes in several years. The "Additional Seat Fees" also haven't changed. I'm paying the same price I paid last year. Prices went up 3-4 years ago when they were good. Would be nice if they lowered the price when the team isn't good. I'm sure season ticket sales are down because not many players returned from last year and were expected to not be good. Also, new "tax" laws several years ago make the "additional seat fees" no longer a "charitable" donation.
  23. Totally flat in the 3rd quarter. Leading by 18 at the half and be down by 6 early in the 4th quarter. Complete lack of energy on defense. Gave up 63% from the field and 50% from 3-point in the 3rd. Good to seem then turn it around in the 4th after Stone made some baskets. And good FT shooting in the 4th by Young and Winfield.
  24. A few weeks ago, it was Fire Whitesell. Good to see that discussion has died down after a few wins/good games. Also, every year around this time (i.e. when students are on break), everybody always complains about attendance and lack of marketing. The promotional budget has always been "wins". I wish I knew why season ticket holders didn't renew. I knew one that didn't renew because it was too hard to find people to go with her. The usual season ticket holders around me have left over the past 2 years. One was the parents of a Dazzler that graduated. Now empty seats.
  25. They really need to find that "energy" when they come out of the locker room. First 3.5 minutes of the game UB 2- Ohio 9. First 3 minutes of the second half UB 0 - Ohio 8. They need to have that running game rather than slow "surgical" approach.
