  1. Agree. Hope we can give her a chance and see what kind of players she can recruit and see what her coaching style is. It will be interesting to see what kind of staff she puts together especially on the recruiting side. Go Bulls!!!
  2. This is unfortunately the scenarios for most of the mid major programs. Finding and giving a chance to up and coming coaches or hiring some older coaches that have gone from one program to another. Worked out okay for us with both Oats and Jack. Glad to see Coach Burke is already starting recruiting. Go Bulls!!!
  3. Agree. A very impressive resume along with her Louisville player stats, Finally have something positive to ponder and look forward to. Would rather have a coach that has shown taken programs and shown positive progress. Is the news conference at Alumni open to the public? Go Bulls! Just hope fans give her a chance and show support.
  4. If I had a dollar every time I heard a sports person say “it is a business “ when signing a contract I would be close to being a millionaire. College sports is now the same as pro sports in many aspects. It is all about the small amount of college players that turn pro and become millionaires along with the coaches and college administrators and of course the media conglomerates while the fans are left paying hundreds and thousands of dollars to watch sporting events.
  5. Nuts is not the only word. Not sure how long this will continue. We will probably never get all the facts about transfers but it would be interesting in years from now how this all played out for all these players and whether anyone will change their future decisions. I am only speaking for my family and many of our friends that have followed and supported many sports over our lifetime that we have reached our limit and will not be spending our money on sports in all forms and will be selective in supporting sports in general. I believe many will continue to enjoy sports as entertainment and as a outlet to get away from everyday life problems and if that is what makes you happy go for it no matter what the cost.
  6. On the other extreme is; the recycling of players continues and hope the players have happiness and contentment with their new teams. There is no peace and contentment for many of us fans but life will go on and we will find other avenues for our enjoyment.
  7. If we really look closely at the portal which we really do not have the time or total interest there are teams all over the country that the portal has depleted them or that have their top players on a team that are probably gone.We just see it from our UB standpoint. Look at some of the MAC teams and even some of the MAAC teams that will lose their top players.
  8. Crazy what is now happening in college basketball!! Coaches being hired and many lasting less years than their contracts because of any factors including not having competitive teams or being offered jobs in a better conference. Now with the portal players leaving when coaches are fired or the players not being happy etc. The days of coaches honoring their contracts and and players saying they love their school are gone. The days of the true fans following their college because of the coaches and players seem to be coming to an end especially if the team is not competitive. Sad way to lose some of your fan base but it will happen and is now happening. It certainly appears the college landscape has changed forever and not sure it is for the fans It has changed for both the coaches, players and for the colleges because of the money and opportunities.
  9. Agree they can test the waters but do they really know what they are getting into?? Only time will tell and it will be interesting after all this if we can get all the facts about where all these players ended up and how the outcome will be for both the players and colleges. What about the interests of fans?? There are more people who will be turned off by this entire mess of what we used to call college athletics. There will still be thousands and millions still following the game and enjoying the sport but naive to think there are not millions that have been turned off at what college sports have become and pro sports at sometimes its best but also at its worst.
  10. Crazy, crazy stat!! Do we think the majority of these players are going to find a college that will offer them a scholarship to play and what happens if these players don’t find a better opportunity?? Correct me but I read where the college where a player was on if they decide to exit the portal and go back to their team the college does not have to give them their scholarship back?? I know this is a mess with many culprits but how I wonder how many colleges will decide to say no on scholarships.
  11. I am sure some of us fans have been following the transfer portal news. The last number I seen was something like over 300 in the portal. Some teams with some big time players have entered so who knows if you could get honest answers out of some of these players what all their reasons are. Just a crazy time and the old saying of if you are not happy just move on and don’t try and work thru any problems. The state of college athletics that will lose some fans bing able to identity with players that move from college to college and team to team.
  12. Thanks for the update as not everyone is on facebook. Just wish we would all try and research all the comings and goings and not critzise but that is the world we live in now where we sometimes only give our opinions without knowing all the facts. The world of social media.
  13. Do agree maybe he will decide this is just too much turmoil and not worth enjoyable. But this is happening all over the college landscape so maybe coaches all over should get out of this crazy situation that was created by the NCAAand all the crazies out there that created this crazy situation.
  14. Agree and when the team and players don’t have a successful season the one to be fired is the coach. Do we think the players do any soul searching. Agree the mental side of the game is so important but a coach can’t make shots, free throws or stop turnovers by players. Again I am not giving any passes to our coaching staff as they are the ones who are held responsible. Let’s take just one example as there are probably 100’s. Oats team at Alabama with all their very talented players and many 4/5 stars. He could not get them to play defense, could not get them to shoot 3’s consistently, their free throw shooting was very inconsistent and following them this year Oats said in interviews that he could not get them to play the way he wanted them to. Does that make him now a bad coach? There are just so many factors that can influence how a team does but that is the beauty of college basketball.
  15. The state of college athletics has changed dramatically over the I don’t know how many years. Some will say a sorry state and some will probably say an exciting time. I would venture to say if you would get honest answers out of athletes on why they went to one college or other I would think some would say the coach or the institution among other factors. But what the transfer portal has done is change the atmosphere and culture of college sports. it seems like the education has taken a back seat to all decisions because a degree they can get from any school. Right or wrong this is the state of sports where money and success are the primary reasons and as they say “Katie bar the door” where common sense and reasonable thinking are not in the equation.
  16. Shame is pretty harsh word especially in this case. At mid major level if a coach has been very successful usually a job in a higher conference will come calling and usually at a very high rate of pay. That is the nature of college basketball in today’s world. And as the case if a coach takes another job and does not succeed in a few years and gets fired there always seems to be another job available.
  17. All good thoughts to ponder. In sports just like life you can teach, preach, show by example but a player or person has to make decisions and perform when the time comes and have to learn from their mistakes. I truly believe that all kids play because of the love of a sport and can learn life lessons from their ups and downs when playing. Go Bulls!!!
  18. How about the players accountability also and I am not by any means giving the coaches a pass.
  19. None of us really know how any coaching change will work out. There are so many factors involved in whether a team is going to have a great year. Our program has been at a great level but to say we will continue when we lose our coach and who knows how many players will be the question marks. That’s what is so great and exciting along with having some eternal optimism that our team will continue to be one of the best in conference. We will only know if Alnutt gets it right or wrong based on our results next year. Again it will be interesting to see how Coach Jack can handle a what looks like a total rebuilt if the seven current players on Syracuse leave and how she can recruit good quality players and pretty much starting from scratch with the current culture and atmosphere at Syracuse. Go Bulls!!!
  20. I understand the information but that does not translate into a successful coach. There are assistants all over the landscape that deserve a shot at running a team. There are head coaches all over that were fired from jobs and continue to be recycled back. Again that does not mean they would be bad hires but for every fired head coach there are assistants that are deserving of a chance. Recruiting is very subjective because it is still an unknown if a player is going to be a truly productive player. If you hit on players you are a genius and if you don’t hit on players and have success you can end up fired or not being a good recruiter in the eyes of many. Go Bulls!!!!
  21. Extension or not it is very easy after the fact that we underperformed based on our predictions for this team. To blame the coach for so many of our players having negative years of course is what we all do. How about putting blame on our many players that did not live up to their expectations. There appeared to be something missing with this team from the get go but we still had our hopes that things would improve. It is the life of the ups and downs of a basketball season. This off season becomes very interesting in so many aspects so I guess we will have to stay tuned. Go Bulls!!!
  22. Disagree. She has played here and was a very good player for us, This is her 7th year coaching and been here for all our great years and has experienced a ton of tense and tough games. She knows about UB culture and deserves a shot. What is considered a more qualified candidate?? Still will be interesting to see what Alnutt will be looking for in a new coach and what will happen with our roster which is still be to determined. Go Bulls!!!!
  23. The transfer portal has turned college sports into total chaos. Money and greed have turned college sports off for many of us in our family and unfortunately we will try and find other avenues for our enjoyment. The days of kids going to college to get an education and be lucky enough and talented enough to play sports and come out with a degree are gone are not enough for kids in many instances. And why did it happen it is because of the amount of money given to coaches and conferences along with other factors. Now it is not enough for kids to get a free education and still play sports. The entire world has gone to hell in a hand basket. Will try to enjoy life without sports but we will probably have to go to counseling. Go Bulls but not sure in what direction???
  24. Congratulations also. It is a great opportunity for her and the memories of exciting, successful teams will last a lifetime. Now comes the worry about a coach and of course will our roster lose our top players. Go Bullls!!!
  25. It will be interesting if Schmidt can recruit and get players that he continued to get at Bona. I wonder if he can get quality players to go to UMASS. After a few years if he does not succeed at UMASS maybe UB can offer him a job. Go Bulls!!
