Well that's a random bit of fortune for us. Also it's great to see Lembo pounding the pavement so far.

Chatman would start on every MAC team. But you're right about the rest and I'm not in the mood to interrupt anyone's UBMBB rampage, so carry on. -

This is crazy bad, but we haven't been "recently" ranked. We finished 192 last year and 142 the year before that. While this is a new, bad low, we've been on this path for a few years now. -

Yeah but of course Adams passed it to him at the absolute worst moment that forced him to take an awkward dribble and try the self alley. They're just so out of sync. -

If Sy pulled off that off the board to himself alley, it would have been worth 4-5 wins to me. -

Insult to injury with ESPN and in-arena clock malfunctions. Rinky dink all around. -

Agreed. Zid had a lot of negatives but also a good number of positives that averaged into a below average but decent player. You're right, he'd be the clear best guard on this roster. He was also a junkyard dog and this team could use a half dozen more of those. It's just disheartening to be wishing on massive improvement just to become a middle of the pack team. I like our lone recruit for next year and we'll see what the portal brings, but it's hard not to feel like the cupboard is bare. We need to figure out NIL sadly. -

Last year's roster was twice as talented as this year's. Not even close. -

No, this is a UB basketball forum. Mods should remove posts that don't pertain to that, including re: the semi pro careers of players from rival schools. -

Boldin and Sabol are good pieces to build on. Jackson, our lone recruit, looks really good to my eye. We can offer a transfer the Sy role which should be able to land a significant player. But we just need more better players. It's that simple, we have a poor, poor roster. And our coaches are learning on the job too. Rough combo. -

Excellent addition to the UB basketball game thread, thank you. -
The convo has been about Oats. But I don't necessarily hate Hodgson calling his team out on X. Sometimes you come to your wit's end in private and have to make an example. Only those in the building know if it's the right button to push.

Resources plus hard work is a highly effective combination from my experience. They're not always mutually exclusive. How is #8 Kenpom Alabama not ranked atm?

Reposting this as a tool for discussing what has transpired with the roster and program in the last few years. Couple tweaks, added future verbal commits, working on linking seasons & players. Crazy to think about the quality of guards we had in the last decade compared to now. Buffalo MBB Roster Flow (1999-present) -

Wow. We're such an outlier in that consensus list, as a large flagship state research university. Especially considering the success we had within the past five years (I'd love to see the high water mark for each school in that list). Appreciate you taking the time to lay out this perspective, bitter as it is. -

I hear you loud and clear re: how far we've fallen. I'm not even attending or watching anything anymore, it's way too bad. But I think it's neck and neck which is worse, the coaching or the roster. Of course the roster is the creation of the coaches, so maybe that hints at the root problem. I just think we're totally absent quality guard play, which is an impossible predicament in modern CBB. A couple decent to good forwards doesn't really mean anything. I actually like our recruiting more than I thought I would at this point, going after high upside length. But GH3 and Co. need to pull off some miraculous portal additions to keep this thing even minimum respectable. -
Sure, same. But he said it. Guess I'll have to add "liar" to the list eventually.

Based on Lenzi's article, Mo is even more of a self-absorbed, striver, charlatan than I ever could have imagined before. Day 4 of waiting for that statement he promised, his thesaurus must be getting one hell of a workout.
-
He's there to be a slick-talking NIL bag man on the recruiting trail. That's all he ever was here, minus having an NIL bag.

Yes. Because in that hypothetical case (and the case of Mo), both Alnutt and us clueless amateurs will have been proven wrong re: the candidate being "good."
