  1. Not sure if my recent comment is perceived as Chatman hate, so I want to try to clarify my view. First I agree 100% that Chatman has carried this team offensively all season. He has also lead the team in blocks and second in steals. So they would be lost without him. At times I observed he tried to do too much himself (or he was asked to do too much - maybe a little bit of both). At some point in a lot of games it was clear that the opposing defense focused on stopping him, collapsing as many as 3 players on him (sometimes even that was not enough to stop Chatman). I get that the talent around Chatman was too inexperienced, (I still expect several of the freshman to have productive D1 careers), but someone had to be open. I felt a dynamic often evolved that was one or two on five on offense. So spirit of this observation is not a critique of Chatman, but an observation that the team concept could have been much better.
  2. Good overall summary. What I saw when the Bulls got it down to 7, in large parts due to Chatman's play. Boals must have made Chatman emphasis of defense. However, UB continued to force things through Adams/ Chatman leading to turnovers and a return to a double digit deficit. I think it was during this stretch that the announcer indicated that McVeigh was wide open on the wing screaming for the ball, and no pass came. Sabol getting only two field goal attempts is another indication that the team didn't play team ball consistently throughout to win. One more game and on to off-season. Let's see what happens.
  3. I feel like Boals has Ohio playing their best basketball of the season. In my mind it will come down to them or Akron, but I agree, a lot of parity and average teams, so almost anything is possible.
  4. I am not arguing that Halcovage will have these guys for four years. I was saying that I view the problem is that he should have brought in one or two less freshman and brought in 3 more portal players. Also I am not as pessimistic about the three freshman - if they stay - the future is not as bleak as some say.
  5. While one has to admit this season has been bad. I would characterize it as not enough experienced talent on the team rather than no talent. I am not done yet, but I am compiling stats for MAC conference play by player since 2015-16 season. So far, Boldin's and Sabol stats seem to be decent stats for freshman and Wilson has come on to play better of late - but he likely did not play enough to really be able to gauge from his stats. Not saying that the conclusions people are drawing are wrong - I just feel you need a little perspective on the fact that over 50% of the teams minutes came from players who have almost no D1 experience prior to this year. This leads to turnovers, probably weak defense and inconsistent 3 point shooting. Here are some partial results showing FR with at least 75 3PT attempts.
  6. Seems like his recruiting is picking up. ...For someone else... My mistake!
  7. It would be nice to see the recent improved play continue over the last 5 games.
  8. Boldin and Graham are out with an injury. Last mention I heard of Jones about one and half months ago, was he was dealing with personal issues and that the team was supportive. I think it is a strong possibility he is no longer with the team, but I don't know.
  9. ^^^^ This is the big issue. Got another opportunity this summer to construct a better team. I am hoping GHIII takes advantage of said opportunity.
  10. I was one who tried to remain optimistic in JW tenure. For example, even last year, UB was 3rd best defense in MAC. The nail in the coffin for JW was the 1-7 record (average 82 pts against vs 68 pts for) against top four MAC teams last year coupled with poor performance against Akron in Cleveland. The better teams were able to shut down the ISO ball.
  11. It has been a long season for all. I am happy for the players and coaches that they pulled out the win.
  12. Massey has So Miss ranked at 149 vs UB at 168. Adding typical home court edge to UB - would expect this to be close to a pick em. Should be a good contest.
  13. MAC teams travel to SB this weekend. It looks like the MAC team is the underdog in every single game. Based on the ESPN odds - expectation is somewhere between 3 and 4 wins. This follows up the 7-5 record playing at home back in early November.
  14. In light of suiting up 8 players tonight it would be nice to have a full roster next season and even some walk ons.
  15. Thank you for clarifying the year and lack of an NKU offer. I was basing the offer from NKU on his tweet of Nov 16th.
  16. So as I look at BGSU vs UB for this year, here is what I see: A seasoned coach in Simon who had success turning around Southern Utah vs an long time assistant and a different approach to constructing the team for this season. Simon went with more veteran players, while Halcovage, (intentional or otherwise) went with a freshman heavy approach. It is not surprising to me that the outcome is what it is - BG ranked around 200 vs UB ... well we all know. I was pushing for more transfer portal guys last summer so that this current season could have been more respectable. He did pursue Gordon and Panzo, both shooting close to 35% from 3, and would both have improved the team offensively. In all likelihood, Halcovage gets another shot next season - I know there is little faith at the moment, but let's see what he comes up with over the summer.
  17. If we are putting out opinions out for hindsight - my pick would have been someone like Ben McCollum. I think rather than hiring an assistant coach, I would prefer a head coach who has had a track record of success that is looking to move to next level.
  18. Could this be Kowalczyk's year? My money is on Akron. I always go with the best 'D'
  19. As far as I can tell from perusing X he has offers now from Bryant, Northern Kentucky, NJIT, Coastal Carolina and us. Picture shows him seemingly visiting LeMoyne, but does not seem like he has an offer or possibly I missed.
  20. It is worth noting that the charts and graphs are very consistent with what you posted. Personally charts and graphs are my go too, to help me understand why the results are so bad. I need the rest of you to explain why the 3 point % is so low. While offensively we are one near the bottom in MAC, the regression relative to last year is small relative to the gap relative to last year on defense. If I am not mistaken, last night Clayton had three lob dunks against us almost in succession. That seems emblematic of breakdowns on d.
  21. While we are going for wishful thinking - let's add 9 total steals and opponent 2P% around 51% taking 4 to 5 points away from Ohio.
  22. Fair points on Hardnett and Powell, they would definitely improve this team. My apologies if I slighted either of them. For Powell, I was too focused on 3 PT shooting, one of the current team's biggest weakness and Zid would not help much there.
