  1. Another Alabama guy in the Portal, 6'10 Freshman Sam Walters. Even a Final 4 appearance doesn't guarantee consistency year-to-year. College basketball is a wacky world.
  2. Looks like she was recruited by BG out of HS last year. I assume she will have 3 years of eligibility left since this was her Freshman season. Puts her on par with Lopez, Davis and KLW.
  3. She is definitely pulling needs based players that should be able to contribute day 1. Let's see how these last 2 slots play out. Would love to find someone 6'3-6'4 that likes playing with their back to the basket and board cleaner. That could help neutralize some of the advantages teams in the MAC exploited against us.
  4. I would say they should have the best talent. If they put it all together, I would imagine they are the favorites heading into the season.
  5. I’m guessing these are 2025 recruits coming in?
  6. You can check my threads, I would not be roasting GH3. I think he has a plan and vision. His plan and vision does not involve high end recruits that put up crazy AAU numbers. He is looking for a specific style of player and had several last year that did not want to play whatever he was preaching. Will it work? I don't know, but I am behind him trying it. As for this recruit, her last year with Burke (2021-22) as a Freshman, she scored 8.2 ppg and 2.9 rpg. She was 12/12 FT and 34.9% 3-PT (60 made) in 896 minutes, she also started 28 or 30 games. Her 1st season at Marshall she was averaging 4.8 ppg and 1.5 rpg, 7/7 FT and 31.3% (35 made) playing 502 minutes. This past season she only played 65 minutes, not sure if it was injury related or performance related. She obviously knows Burke's style and won't be offended by her coaching style, so it's worth a shot in my opinion.
  7. It really doesn't matter who you are or where you are. Players are going to leave even if it's a great situation for them on a really good team. Someone will offer something more. Just crazy, but I guess this is what it is.
  8. Only if the NCAA has a beef with someone specific.
  9. Looks like UConn may have the inside track.
  10. Everyone looking for the next Mark Sears I live less than an hour from The Mount. Maybe I will go at lunch time decked out in UB gear and try to find the basketball team to make a sales pitch. That shouldn’t violate any rules, right?
  11. Leading scorer was a Senior. 2nd leading scorer - De’Shayne Montgomery, 6’4” freshman guard, 13.2 ppg and 41.2% from 3. best rebounder was 4.5 RPG and several guys around 4rpg.
  12. Not a transfer, but we picked up a commitment from Drake Saltarelli out of IMG, 6'1 215lb LB. Sounds like he has family in the Buffalo area. I know Lembo mentioned we are a bit thin at LB, so maybe a Freshman depth piece for us.
  13. That's what I'm saying. You should be able to find guys that want to play like that. Time will tell.
  14. No disagreements there. Maybe I'm grasping at straws, but I need to cling to something or believe in something at this point. 😂 On a side note from my homer self, I do feel good about Coach Lembo, not sure if we have a QB, but I think our overall team is going to be greatly improved.
  15. Short answer, no, I did not see that. I also saw a team that was extraordinarily fragmented. I saw a lot of lazy veteran play. I saw a lot of young players that deferred to veterans most of the season and we consistently let down. It is probably wishful thinking, but this year will be 100% GH3 recruits, so I will reserve judgement until after this season. I did listen to almost all of Dan Hurley's interview where he talks about player selection, his thoughts on building a team and I think he is 100% correct that it really only takes one bad apple and it really does change the dynamic of an entire team. I only saw one game live and it was the Niagara game and the level of selfish play and laziness I observed was painful to see. That group was not a team at that point and never really got any better.
  16. Is it possible that GH3 is trying to build something like UConn, except at a mid-major level? Interchangeable parts, constant movement, tough defense, motion that allows you to finish at the rim. It takes the right kind of players and the proper character and mentality. Most of the Alabama kids, for example, couldn't play in Hurley's system. Not that UConn doesn't have good players, but you can tell that they all are playing for the greater good, very unselfish and each player seems to have that same mentality. It was an impressive display to watch. Not sure if it is really achievable at this level, but I am wondering if that may be part of the cultural shift he is going for. Pure speculation and maybe I just want to have something to aspire to, but after seeing that display, you may not just need 5 superstars to win in college basketball, maybe getting back to actual basketball and focusing on fundamentals does have a place still.
  17. I would agree but they are talking $17 million/year to surpass Self. Either way he’s getting a raise, especially if they win tonight
  18. Looks like Hurley is Kentucky’s plan A. Not sure what his buyout is, but it’s likely significant. Oats could be plan B
  19. Seems like an odd choice, but likely something is at least covering his tuition so it’s like a scholarship. Either that or his family has enough money to cover his school costs and he really wanted to play there.
  20. I wouldn’t expect much until after the spring games and people start getting slotted, but I could be wrong.
  21. It’s just as you said, priorities. SUNY and Buffalo have prioritized academics and research money. Athletics was just a part of the college experience. As I said before, we never went “all-in” when we went D1 and that has continued. Number of applications has never been an issue, so they don’t believe getting more eyes on the athletics will help in that respect. They obviously also don’t think making that investment into top end athletics will be being enough additional money to make a difference. If the next UB president is a big fan of college athletics, maybe it will change. That type of push needs to come from that level.
