  2. Given that the Ivies and the academies were interested in him, within the MAC the only school that would have been competition for this kid would have been Miami. This may have also played a role in the decision. https://ubbulls.com/sports/football/roster/coaches/george-ricumstrict/217
  3. It is a state wide freeze. https://www.budget.ny.gov/guide/bprm/b/b-1223.html
  4. Do not think that Fagan is waiting to graduate. I think he is only three years out of high school. He has played two years, one in JUCO and one at UB. He has two seasons left and there is no need to petition for a 6th year because he has a eligibility left to complete within five years. You only apply for a 6th season if you have eligibility left after the 5th season. Also Fagan was seen on a team Zoom meeting screen that was tweeted out a couple of weeks ago. Graves was also in the picture.
  5. Bob Vartanian was drafted in 1973 by the Buffalo Braves. https://www.basketball-reference.com/draft/NBA_1973.html He went in the 13th round. On a side note James Brown of CBS Sports was drafted that year as well by the Atlanta Hawks. He was one of two James Browns drafted that year. Even more surprising htey were both out of the Ivy League (Harvard and Dartmouth).
  6. We have placed two people in the NBA. The two were Sam Pellom and CJ Massinberg. I saw Pellom play in Madison Square Garden when he was with the Hawks. Below is CJ with the Nets from last October. Sorry, no pictures of Pellom as there were no cell phones with cameras in the early 1980s.
  7. This has been going for years. When Julius Erving was coming out of Roosevelt High School his final two choices were UB and UMass. He went to UMass when they hired his high school coach as an assistant. Same thing with Danny Manning at Kansas. There are other ways to influence recruiting. David Thompson picked NC State over South Carolina (I believe) when the governor of North Carolina had the road he lived on paved.
  8. Exactly when would this be played? The Sunday and Monday of selection weekend?
  9. It gets worse for Central. They are no longer eligible to be a FBS school, they only have 5 men's teams. They are applying for a waiver. They say if the waiver is denied they have other options. They did not say what the other options are, but my guess it means more work for lawyers, which is always a good thing. https://www.detroitnews.com/story/sports/college/2020/05/19/a-new-reality-cmu-cuts-mens-indoor-outdoor-track-amid-covid-19-crisis/5219792002/
  10. Disagree. Not a Power 5 take. If the Mid-Majors play more games in the regular season it just means more in conference losses as opposed to non-conference losses against Power 5 teams. They are just beating themselves up a little more and not helping their NET rankings at all.
  11. Brutal I think this means that there is no MAC Men's Indoor Track Conference. This will make it nearly impossible for any to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships. The MAC will have to find other schools to be indoor track only or the remaining schools will need to affiliate elsewhere.
  12. It is not that you did not play a year. You have to be enrolled at the new school for a year before you become eligible to play. That was Wes Clark became eligible at the end of the first semester.
  13. Also football teams giving up hotels the night before for home games. Look for road teams to do better this year. Also travel team cut from 76 to 70 for conference games. https://www.toledoblade.com/sports/college/2020/05/15/mac-football-teams-change-hotel-policy-shrink-travel-roster/stories/20200515055
  14. That is because tuition is set by SUNY Central and the legislature and it is uniform across the entire system. The variation in cost between SUNY units is fees and room and board. However, that cost does no vary much across the state.
  15. If you are counting the 3 out of conference games as the games in the Paradise Jam, they do not count as three games. I believe they only count as two games for scheduling purposes. Also my guess is the chance of UB going to St. Thomas is slim to none. I do not see any schools leaving the contiguous 48 states for any similar events.
  16. Akron will be dropping sports today. https://www.wksu.org/post/university-akron-cut-athletics-teams#stream/0 It seems that they may be in the worst financial state of any school in the MAC. They have 21 sports (track and field counts as two teams for men and women - indoor and outdoor). That allows them to drop six. The NCAA voted against a waiver from having 16 teams this year to be a FBS program.
  17. Probably. Should have gone to 22 games.
  18. Akron is in real trouble. These are huge cuts. https://www.cleveland.com/education/2020/05/university-of-akron-to-eliminate-six-of-11-colleges-as-part-of-cost-saving-measures-due-to-coronavirus-pandemic.html
  19. Plus every one in college who have used up all of their eligibility.
  20. As of now the new rule which has yet be approved by the NCAA would not go into effect until the 2021-2022 academic year.
  21. Evin Ksiezarczyk to the Falcons to join Steven Means. Ladarius Mack to the Bears to join Khalil Mack.
  22. I think part of the reason selections from the MAC were down was because of the lack of ability of teams to bring players in for individual workouts. So a GM is faced do I take a player from SEC that ends up a bust or risk a player from the MAC that as a mid to late round pick is a bust? I'm going with the SEC kid.
  23. Dyaisha Fair was named to the Her Hoops State Fab 15 Freshmen. https://ubbulls.com/news/2020/4/23/womens-basketball-dyaisha-fair-named-a-her-hoop-stats-fab-15-freshman.aspx I guess this is a good Freshman 15, rather than the usual Freshman 15.
