Buffalo has a new ABA semi-pro team that begins play in November:

I have a lot of happy memories of this forum supporting the ABA Buffalo Rapids years ago - the eXtreme are coached by UB alumni Rich Jacob who formerly coached the Rapids. This new team is owned by former Canisius captain Darren Fenn and plays at his XGen training complex in West Seneca, so unlike prior ABA teams in Buffalo they seem to be on solid ground.

So far they've announced Javon McCrea (Buffalo) and Jon Bailey (Wisconsin Lutheran) as their first signings.

I didn't realize Rich Jacob was a UB Alum.

He was assistant coach for UB men's basketball in the mid-80s while he was attending UB for his PhD - that's how he landed the head coaching job at Daemen in 1987

I found this May 1987 news bit referencing him in Grand Island Dispatch:

Niagara Catholic All-Star’s first professional stop to the eXtreme!

We are excited to announce the signing of another powerful guard in Jaceary Menes. Jaceary comes to the eXtreme by way of Cazenovia College where he was a standout player for four seasons. The former Niagara Catholic All-Star is a strong and versatile guard who shoots the ball from deep at a high percentage but can also penetrate and get everyone involved.

“Jaceary had a very good tryout and we are happy that he was able to outplay several other players at his position because we really liked his game from the start. He is vocal and aggressive and loves to push the tempo,” said co-owner Darren Fenn.

Niagara Falls native & experienced professional baller dubbed “Mr. Hustle” sings with the eXtreme!

We are excited about signing of Marcus Feagin, an experienced pro and Niagara Falls native where he was a standout at NFHS. Feagin has played professionally for the former 716ers and Chautauqua Hurricanes. Known for his explosive athleticism, the eXtreme will lean on Marcus for his leadership ability and the hard-nosed brand of basketball he is known for.

Head Coach Rich Jacob was very complimentary. “We expect a lot from Marcus. He was like ‘Mr. Hustle’ in high school because he grabbed every rebound, every loose ball- he literally cleaned up everything. He is very athletic and has a well-rounded skill set. He knows this level of competition and can help us rise as a team and meet any challenges that will come our way this season.”

Let’s go Marcus!!
