  1. Not a one year trend. I think your forgetting how good the A10 used to be. I’m talking 1 seeds in the tourney good. They’ve been raided, filled in with some decent programs sure, but the product is diluted. Women’s BBall has already far overtaken the A10. The men aren’t there yet for sure, give it another decade or two and I think people will be thinking, remember when we wanted in the A10? thank god that never happened. Small privates are dinosaurs in the college sports landscape. The bigger dinosaurs are the last to die. and I actually do think Toledo is slightly better than St. Louis. I’ve only seen each team play once so far and that wright st loss is a head scratcher for sure, but when I watched St Louis play vs SH (I try to see every potential NCAA team at least once, reason why my work bracket pool gets smaller every year, I won 4 of the last 5) they turn the ball over like it’s their job and average at best offense. Nutrual court, I’d bet Toledo. UT seems to get better every game they play, and maybe WS just caught them early enough in the season coupled with a bad night. Toledo’s OOC schedule is weak for sure. They have 3 games Penn, Ball st then UB. We will know where they stand better by then.
  2. My point isn’t that the MAC is better right now, just that it is trending up while the A10 is trending down. If the conferences were to combine right now the top team would be from the MAC, the bottom 3 would be A10 teams. If UB finishes ooc with only one loss, their at large chances could survive a loss at BG, can you say the same about a St Louis loss at LaSalle or Fordham or GW? Cureent records: A10 67-60 MAC 61-35
  3. The shit MAC has a longer history than the A10. Tournament wins by current members while also in the conference is closer than you’d think. A10 is trending down while the MAC with more football money coming in now and more investment on the BBall side is trending up. UB, Toledo and Ball State all could win the A10 this year. Check the rankings, the MAC is the better conference this year. Yes, the A10 has been the better conference for 2 decades running, but check back in 10 years.
  4. If UB becomes the team afraid to lose on the road to other mid majors, they become everything we hate about the college basketball landscape. Home and homes alleviate some risk. The WV win put us on the radar, following it up with the very good win at SIU (which may be a tier 1 win when all is said and done) got us the ranking. And SIU will be our best OOC home game. Not sure what to dislike about that. H&H are great with the right dance partners.
  5. Side note, you want to get the city involved, the people representing the city need to get involved. The mayor needs to show up to some games, maybe start a Twitter feud with Phili, put the big 4 up against Phili’s big 5 (minus Villanova of course). Scheduling is tough and outside the box thinking is necessary. Plus would get us eyes in a rich recruiting market.
  6. These general public fans you want to cater to may only be able to name 10 college basketball programs, may not even realize UB plays Div 1. SIU has made 2 sweet sixteens, won the NIT, has an alum in the basketball HOF. UB is lucky to play them. Fans who now this, true fans of the sport are who you need to cater to and will actually show up. And what’s better, it is actually possible to cater to them! Cause those 10 teams that your general public knows, are not coming here. SIU going into this season had at large dreams of there own, I would play 4home and homes a year if we could find 4 SIUs. the Marist and Dartmouth games were part of the Belfast classic. That tourney did right by UB and USF, getting them free home games and putting the best 4 teams on one side of the N Ireland bracket. also look at Detroit Mercy. Decent program but OOC will play 7 MAC schools. Hard to differentiate yourself that way. The school did one hell of a job with this schedule. Smart, good spacing of hard games, the gimme game at the appropriate time. Ramping up right before conference play. Perfect schedule.
  7. We are returning from Ireland, do you really want to play any team even with the slightest chance of losing the first game back. Personally I liked the scheduling. Time to readjust is important.
  8. Big game! I was looking into these USF Dons box scores, stats, usage, mins etc, and I am feeling pretty confident going into this one. Which makes me incredibly nervous after last night. ill start with what concerns me, UB played maybe their worst game of the season yesterday. I know the first 10 minutes were god awful and that skews some things, and maybe we were just getting our legs and used to the court, we will see. USF played one of their better games of the year vs SFA. And SFA is better than UWM so maybe they got the better warmup game. anyway, what I saw. Very good guard play, but no guard depth. Point guard looks very good but plays pretty much all game. They start 3guards and only one comes off the bench that plays any significant minutes. 2nd game in a row should play right into UB’s hands. Mr Ferrari, meet Mr Jordan and Mr Caruthers, they will be happy to escort you around they court. Try to keep up. their renfro kid kinda sucks. Like shouldn’t be starting for a good d1 program kinda sucks. Stats say he should be playing Bertram type minutes, yet he is on the court most game. He seems to have some good shot blocking and rebounding skills, but every time down the court he shoots is a win for UB. they will have a slight advantage inside with their 7fter Lull but our pace may take him out of the game. No way he gets up and down the floor with a McCrea, or even Perkins. If we push the ball when Lull is in, their defense will be switching before the shot clock even resets. Should create some open looks. One last thing that kind of jumped out at me, USF doesn’t get to the FT line very often but also doesn’t put their opponent there much either. Game should be won with the game clock ticking, which I like. Just got to shoot decent and I predict a UB win, 79-69.
  9. EMU has just been embarrassed by every P5 team they’ve played. If UB does miss an at large, it will be EMU’s fault.
  10. Anyone who read that article and came out with the notion that Alabama has attendance issues has some major reading comprehension problems. Just always click yes on the “I read the terms of service” button, you’d just be wasting your time if you did read it anyway.
  11. Can she practice with the team? Any chance fall semester grades post before the Stanford game?
  12. No true Bills fan can legally enter Canada. Attendance would of seen a small uptick. So would game day arrests.
  13. Duke will still never play at Gonzaga. Keep winning and start seasons ranked and get invited to better tournaments. Takes time. Unless this new arena is equipped with a time machine, don’t bother. Blue bloods aren’t playing an away game anywhere they could possibly lose anyway. lets play well in these nationally televised games coming up.
  14. I chose CJ reaction and dunk but that Graves block on the baseline where he seemed to just levitate sticks out the most to me. I remember Andy Robinson could fly but Graves may have him beat.
  15. Yeah. I was going to ask for her inclusion in the b-ball player March madness pool thread but saw this thread. She would have my vote.
  16. Yo, I live in Seattle. There is literally 15 pot dispensaries within a 20 mile radius of me. How are you getting better weed than me?
  17. In regards to Brock, the guy’s role (or at least it should be) is to get down the floor and establish position and even if you don’t have the best offensive moves, draw fouls with your big body and turn it into a guard oriented game as quick as possible. I’m Sure he is a great young man, but he is just not quick enough to fill that role. Especially in this offense. Big 7fts with s ballerina and track skills don’t come to mid major schools. He certainly seems to be enjoying himself though, regularly first off the bench to chest bump & congratulate, and I hope he stays around. He is a matchup option at this point. Use him against the right opponent, McRea should play first tho. We have new bigs coming in. We will be fine.
  18. Is ESPN+ not working for anyone else for the women’s game? Obviously football is on the big screen but I love muting commercials. Did I charge my iPad for nothing?
  19. SIU basketball reigns king in Carbondale from what I heard. Bigger attendance then football, which can only be true if done season attendance and not game avg att. To be honest, I have no clue what the closest actual city to Carbondale even is? Can’t amagine alumni are all staying in town. Either people drive hours or they own the local entertainment dollars. If UB ever moved the students back to center court, student attendance would immediately double. Are we making enough xtra money from shoving the college b-ball atmosphere behind the baskets to give up what was the best home court advantage in the MAC back then? I remember getting to Alumni 2+ hours early just to get a spot in line. Students will stand for 2+ hours just to stand for 2 more if you give them those sections back. Hell move the seats along the wall outside the arena so they can sit before the game and not have the option during. And better atmosphere I believe will increase ticket prices for the general public who really just wants a show, which the students are very much a part of. Duke does it, how much do you think they could charge for the sections they currently put their students in. Mid 2000s UB got a slimmer of a taste of success and tried to cash in instantly which I believe was a detriment to the program.
  20. Good luck Lady Bulls! anyone know of a stream?
  21. CJ may be the greatest. It may be because the timing of my tenure at UB, but to me, the greatest will always be Turner Battle. The numbers won’t back me up but just him coming here changed the culture and future of this program. CJ came into a track meet where Turner arrived in quick sand. Both awesome. As was Mr Pellom. But our current status just doesn’t happen in my mind without TB, maybe a different kind of great I suppose.
