  1. Maybe it's time to start a rumor of the large NE public universities, with solid athletic programs, starting their own league of like minded institutions. Buffalo, UCONN, UMASS, Temple, Ohio ... Others? Pretty large TV markets. Lots of alums nearby. Easier travel. Like the old ECAC. But better. You heard it (made up) here first.
  2. I'm mildly surprised that there was no talk of any of the St Johns players considering UB after Whitesell's time there. Maybe it was just too long ago.
  3. Or even worse to the school that loses their coach to Big Blue
  4. Does Oats now wish he'd waited a while?
  5. Tom Pelissero @TomPelissero Buffalo QB Tyree Jackson is working for the #Bills at their local day today, source said. If they’re looking for a big, athletic QB to pair with their big, athletic QB, Jackson certainly would fit the ... bill.
  6. Some more Tyree stuff from Profootballrumors.com Buffalo quarterback Tyree Jackson recently met with both the Lions and Dolphins, tweets Tom Pelissero of NFL.com. Teams are interested in Jackson primarily due to his “rare physical traits,” per Pelissero, and the three-year starter certainly offers intriguing size at 6’7″, 245 pounds. Detroit could be searching for a developmental passer to play behind Matthew Stafford, while Miami simply needs warm bodies under center.

  8. Tom Murphy was mentioned somewhere in another forum a while back. Well, he was just picked up by the Giants and may make the opening day roster. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2019/03/giants-claim-tom-murphy-waivers-rockies.html
  9. Jim Whitesell was an assistant at St Johns before coming to UB. Not as exciting a story as Hurley, but...
  10. I believe, with no legal training at all, that a contract is a binding agreement. The 'non guarantee' part would have to be part of the contract. And btw, I also believe that Brooklyn is a labor lawyer.
  11. Slightly related, and not intended to reopen the tiresome debate, but Golisano reportedly offered money for UB to change their name to New York State University. "Mayor Byron Brown and other influential Buffalo residents should be joining former Buffalo Sabres owner Tom Golisano in pushing school officials to push the SUNY system to allow UB to adopt the "New York State" name. (A few years ago, Golisano reportedly offered to give the university $8 million if they changed their name to New York State. The gift was conditional reportedly because Golisano felt his money would not have the desired impact without the much better New York State name opening doors for the university.)..." http://sportsminorityreport.blogspot.com/2013/09/a-strong-case-made-for-university-at.html
  12. An interesting/amusing lose-lose for RU. https://www.nj.com/rutgersfootball/index.ssf/2018/09/heres_how_much_rutgers_paid_buffalo_for_this_butt.html
  13. I think a UB victory at Rutgers in the early 2000s with Hofer was UBs first (only?) victory over a P5 school. Later, post 2007, UB canceled a game late in the process at Rutgers. It was a slightly bush move on UBs part. Who knows, this game may be that canceled game finally getting played.
  14. Actually, they are more than atrocious. More like embarrassing. " The MAC East better be weary"? Maybe you meant 'wary'? I've heard local high school games with more coherent announcers.
