  1. Can anyone explain to me how a team can be ranked #97 after starting the season 5-1 with wins over #42 and #85 and their only loss coming on the road against #34? Kenpom's calculations are garbage to midmajors.
  2. I saw glimpses in the first half of Buffalo basketball. Persistent defense & turnovers that turned into fast break points. They seemed to tire out in the second half but overall it was encouraging to know the talent is there - they just have to keep up the tenacity. It's hard to accept that last year is over and we're coming back to earth but overall this is still a talented team that could EASILY win the MAC and make for a very exciting March.
  3. I want our team to prove they don't suck ass before we go out talking $hit to Bama.
  4. Disagree. Reggie already got us to that illustrious height of "blow a 19pt lead late in the game in a conference championship".
  5. If he started the QB he thought would best help us win games then he has terrible judgment.
  6. We were pretty 3-ball happy the past few seasons as well when we were in the half court set but we coupled it with a ton of transition layups off turnovers. I didn't see the defensive intensity and pressure that is necessary to create those transition baskets. It didn't look like Buffalo out there.
  7. Defense, defense, defense... that’s how we won the last few years. Turnovers and fast breaks. Where the hell was that tonight?? We looked like an NBA team on defense.
  8. Kent Read, Kent Write, Kent play football.
  9. So, we forked over the largest athletics salary in the history of New York and Nate Oats leaves because UB doesn't want to commit to building a multi-million dollar basketball-only facility and an arena with a capacity that's 30% higher than Duke? That makes me think even less of him.
  10. I'm also not anti-Nate, I'm anti-Alabama. I'd root for him at most other schools. I will freely admit I'm a bit anti-Hodgson now though.
  11. Rooting against. Not because I blame him for leaving - I just really thought he'd go to a bigger program that actually cared about basketball. I'm not saying Bama hasn't had success in the past, it's just that no matter how many games he wins he will always be secondary to football.
  12. He should have started from Day 1. I never thought Myers looked ready to play at this level and Vantrease at least looked competent in his limited time last year. I'm guessing the coaching staff sees a bigger upside in the long term development of Myers but gambling on the freshman likely cost us a shot at the MAC.
  13. UConn shouldn’t be a barometer for anything.
  14. Not to be nit picky but they weren't in the MAC that year. My rivals in the MAC? I only have one. What is Ohio Sucks.
  15. Tip of the cap to Coach Jenkins - this kid can ball.
  16. We lost our first game against Bowling Green last season by 4 points in front of the largest crowd to ever watch a Bowling Green basketball game at the Stroh Center. They shot over 50% and the refs called 44 (!) fouls including 25 on the Bulls. We played them twice more and beat them by double digits both times. They lost their 3rd and 4th best scorers including Wiggins who accounted for 25% of their total rebounding. Can someone please explain to me why Bowling Green is the odds on favorite to win this year? Is Justin Turner really sooooo good that he can single-handedly run over the conference?
  17. Expectations seem a bit inflated here, guys. We may have been on level footing with the big teams last year but I'm expecting a bit of a drop off given the turnover. I think we'll be a strong midmajor - but not a team that wins a majority of its games against teams like UCONN, Xavier, and Florida. We lost some key pieces and it will take a bit of time for the new guys to gel into the rotation. I like the schedule though. I just wish we could have found a way to capitalize on our recent success to finally get 1 or 2 of these big dogs to come play us at Alumni the way we did a few years back with UCONN, Pitt, BYU, etc...
  18. I put a lot of the blame on Myers because he overshot wide open receivers multiple times in the first half. It has become more apparent that the o line deserves a big chunk of the blame in this game though. They are supposed to be our biggest strength and they’ve looked FCS level tonight. It’s disappointing realizing that Penn St was an anomaly and this team is unlikely to win many games going forward.
  19. I can’t for the life of me figure out why anyone thinks Myers has a good long ball. He misses throws by 10 yards on every drive. Its depressing to think he’s the best we have.
  20. Don’t worry, guys. We’re a second half team.
  21. Really? I don't think he was any better than Willy, Anderson, or even Licata. He just had much more hype due to his size. He was terribly inconsistent throughout his career and he brought us some of the worst losses in the history of our program: friggin' Albany and blowing a late 19-pt lead in the MAC Championship. I wish him well but I certainly won't remember him as our best QB ever.
