  1. Not to diss her but with all the drama that has surrounded our team, I completely forgot about FLJ and all the rest that left. How’d Cuse do this year? Legit asking lol. Did anyone who left make noise?
  2. I don’t think this is a program. It’s more for educational purposes. Not criticizing you but I don’t know what is so complicated to understand about NIL. Why are ppl on this board still opposed to it? Do y’all want to get left behind? Or do you just hate to see kids making money?
  3. Perfect example is Fulcher. Juco transfer with 3 years left. To your comment about being dead last or not competitive…as constituted now, are we better than the Michigan directionals, BG, NIU and Miami?
  4. I think this would be step one. Open the flood gates so to speak.
  5. The UB IG just posted some highlights of Sy. If he regains that form and Adams takes a step forward, they could be a nice 1/2 punch. Smith is our junkyard dog. Then you fill in the pieces around them. Think we have a nice blend right now. Agree we are young at PG. Maybe Fulcher can step up. There’s still almost 2k transfers in the portal, still time.
  6. Hahaha attorneys. I think there was a ruling recently passed or in the court system in Cali that said athletes are state employees or something like that. If that becomes the case then this whole NIL goes into another realm
  7. This is a very interesting point. I feel, aside from social media, that relationships and NIL deals between local businesses and players is the perfect way none power conference teams/players can operate. For example, player X secures a deal for some cash or even a car for doing some promotional work for the local car dealership. But then again this goes back to how hard these kids wanna work. Do they wanna put the effort off the court to build their brands or are they chasing the easy bag?
  8. I agree with both these statements. I don’t expect to be top 4 in the conference next season. Of course winning is also my desire. I think with the current 10 guys we have and some actual coaching and player development we can be in the middle of the MAC pack. Which in year one of a rookie HC with great roster turnover is very respectable. So long as we show that improvement as the season goes on.
  9. Well then let me ask you, what is your expectation for next season?
  10. I just looked at the roster. Smith had no offensive game and is a junkyard dog style role player. Chatman didn’t play last season. Williamson barely played and was already redshirted. Jones barely played. And Adams could be our leading man going into next season. Aside from him I don’t think anyone is penciled in as a starter. I think it’s wide open.
  11. I would be nice for one of these freshman to win Freshman of the year. For that to happen there has to be a pathway to consistent playing time. At this juncture I rather develop a freshman than play a one year rental. Unless that one year rental will be the difference between us winning the conference.
  12. It’s a good question. Ultimately I think these kids want to play right away. Increase their stock and transfer up. I love that nothing is given on this current roster. Even with the returning players. If they weren’t happy they could’ve left. But them staying is them saying I’m willing to work and earn my role. I agree with you and others when y’all say we need to recruit higher caliber players. But I feel that will happen in due time. Especially with success. And in today’s landscape no two off seasons are the same. You’re awesome when it comes to stats and info…what the composite or average rating for this current class? Aren’t a few of them 3 stars? Since when do we frown on that?
  13. I am enjoying the approach coach has taken. He is bringing all young players. Undoubtedly some will stick and others will transfer. But I feel this way he can grow and develop players. See who will buy in as he implements his style and philosophy. Perhaps he has tried to bring in transfers but his style is theoretical at this point. Right now he is an unknown. This is year one. Perhaps in year two he will look for more impact transfers. Each year is fluid. A coach who can build multiple ways will be a winner. But I think he’s off to a good start. Maybe bringing in a transfer, this season, might upset the younger players bc transfers will think they are automatic starters. Right now everything is up for grabs. Gotta earn it. A senior or grad transfer might not buy into that. I agree he is bringing in foundational pieces and hey I’m all for a transfer who will provide veteran leadership. But I’ve been burned in the Whitesell era by bringing in transfers and looking for the quick fix. I guess in summation I’m saying that I’m in it for the long haul with coach G. I’m willing to embrace a rebuild, even if it means being an 8 seed next year. So long as I see that foundation being built. PS…I guess with that last sentence I am now on record as saying my expectations for next season are 8 seed or better. I don’t expect us to completely bottom out and be as bad as the bottom of the MAC. I can envision lumps and bruises early and growth and a run in mid/late February. Similar to the ladies this past season.
  14. May I ask why you would want a one year rental?
  15. It’s unbecoming. Is she bashing the basketball program? Is she bashing UB as an academic institution? Rhetorical questions. But the tweet is vague enough, especially since it’s graduation season. It’s funny we all want buzz and news from the men’s program but I’d like to go a week without any news from the women’s side.
  16. Totally agree. And with the way kids are, twitter is the first place they run to.
  17. But this really doesn’t tell us anything we didn’t already know. Obviously there were issues last season and into this offseason. Stone is gone, goodbye, get off twitter and take the high road. Show some maturity as you enter the real world. Tired of this nonsense. From all parties. Burke needs to clean her house up asap. Tired of all this noise.
  18. Was she expected back? She was a grad student this past season.
  19. I’ll just say this in the debate of highly coveted vs under the radar recruits…essentially Coach Halcovage is building from the ground up. It was clear whatever the last regime was doing wasn’t working so why not take a blow torch to it and build your way from the ground up. In relating this to recruits, perhaps he is running into a challenge of getting “higher quality” guys here bc we were and are in that poor of a state as a program. Yes we have fallen that far from the Oats days. Which brings me to Hodgson…he very much still has all the years at UB and the bama years of equity built up. He’s known as a recruiter but can he coach? Flip side, perhaps Halcovage is confident that with his first ever recruiting class he can coach them up build them as core pieces then as the years come fill in the gaps. Win games, a title and along the way bring in higher level guys. I for one am not gonna criticize bc we know nothing of these players, know nothing of how coach will coach etc. I do know that if he brought in a 4 star recruit we’d be criticizing if that player didn’t pan out. So damned if you do damned if you don’t . All the while we haven’t even played a game yet. I want high level guys too but at this juncture it’s a little unrealistic to expect them to want to come here when we have a rookie head coach, bare cupboard of talent and by all accounts nothing in terms NIL. That’s why I said before, patience. Rome wasn’t built in a day.
  20. I’m not going at you. I can just sense an impatience growing amongst some here. And ppl wanting transfers as if we are in a win now mode. I think it’s pretty clear coach is choosing to bring guys with multiple years of eligibility. I wouldn’t consider it a step down. Just a different approach for this upcoming season. And as of today there’s about 1,800 kids in the portal. So still plenty of time.
  21. I just beg for some patience. Coach is building. And building will take time. He is an unknown commodity as a coach so why would high quality players wanna play for him. Right now his reputation is that of having been an assistant on a two time championship nova staff. Gotta give him time. He wasn’t gonna come in and bring nova recruits with him. However he is bringing in what he feels are nova style players that he can develop as a core going forward. There’s nothing wrong with a NYC guard with a chip on his shoulder. He may come in and improve his 3pt % and he may come in and not be relied upon to make threes but rather facilitate the ball to those that can. Let’s just be patient. This is his first recruiting class, can’t expect everyone to be a diamond in the rough or a standout.
  22. I believe these offers were from his initial recruitment???
