  1. It seems as though the AD has made it a point of emphasis that both basketball head coaches be young and social media conscious. Refreshing to see. I like being informed and just aware of what the staff is up to. Now the school and athletic program social medias have to follow suit.
  2. Ok seriously are we being catfished with these recruits? Another awesome name! Coach aiming high with this one. Love it. See he has an offer from Nova too.
  3. The gun wasn’t the issue, the weed was lol.
  4. No surprise here but Bates declared for the draft.
  5. It’s what has been going on for decades. Just out in the open. Anyone remember the movie Blue Chips? Nothing anyone is doing is new. It’s just public. If anything the playing field is leveling a little, allowing non traditional basketball schools like Miami to make final four runs.
  6. My school of thought is to build the infrastructure first. Build a great practice facility. Then game facility. Then once that’s set move the funds to NIL. It’s a long term mind set but one that I think is sustainable for a longer duration. Obviously there are 1000 ways to skin a cat. And NIL, until reigned in, isn’t going anywhere.
  7. In no order…Ohio, Toledo, Kent and Akron still sit atop as the top 4.
  8. Can anyone do some investigation to see who, player wise, is on the court?
  9. https://watchstadium.com/every-player-in-the-2023-college-basketball-transfer-portal-04-19-2023/ Updated list of everyone in the portal.
  10. Sometimes you need grunt workers. Do the dirty work and bring toughness
  11. I’ve always said he was a SG. He’s not a PG. Thats trying to fit a round piece in a square hole. He’s a shooter.
  12. Just listened also. One of the founders of Orange Theory Fitness is a UB Alum, umm hello NIL opportunity. This seems like a match made in heaven for athletes to promote Orange Theory.
  13. We can’t fault or complain about coach Halcovage for building a roster. As @Tee4three said, finding glue guys/program guys. Coach has the luxury of time to build. I get we all want instant results and flashy signees. But let’s not forget what got us into the mess…trying to put bandaids on compound fractures. Meaning, trying to find the plug and play portal hit and not roster building.
  14. He seems like the kinda player you need on a winning roster. Might not be the star but will be a grinder who makes hustling winning plays. And can shoot.
  15. I think we are mixing topics here slightly. The topic wasn’t NIL but more so the portal in general. Generally a majority of players are transferring for presumed better opportunities. So to say we won’t do anything is wrong. We will bring in some transfers. Again nothing to do with the NIL side of things. Also I still feel people don’t understand what NIL is. NIL is NOT the school paying paying players to play. NIL is players finding revenue streams. Like endorsements and appearances. So on. Coaches and schools cannot promise any such deals. However we all know the dirty world of college sports therefore schools have middle men or collectives that hook players up with deals. If the players were smart they would cut the middle man out. But that’s another topic. So when you say the schools will cut back NIL money that’s technically wrong. Schools don’t have that involvement. Middle men do. There was a great article about this Syracuse Booster who is planning to cut his NIL support. I’ll try to find it. https://www.syracuse.com/orangebasketball/2023/01/adam-weitsman-says-hes-paying-1-million-to-syracuse-players-and-thats-just-a-start.html?outputType=amp Since this article and he has threatened to pull his funding. Great read.
  16. I love your analogy. That’s a perfect description of it. Musical chairs. Spot on. I love Dickie V but he can be old man get off my lawn sometimes. The Portal is basically free agency. And after this final 4, where you had FAU and San Diego St in it, are mid majors in trouble or finding ways to thrive with the perfect balance of experience and portal hits. Meanwhile schools that employ one and dones (Kentucky and Duke) are sitting at home. To me, teams with older players, experience and years together have been winning lately. Furthermore, look at Arkansas. Mussleman works the portal more than anyone. He’s had success. I believe back to back elite 8s but hasn’t broken through yet. Is it a matter of time or is that the ceiling for a mostly portal’d roster?
  17. The catch and shoot is definitely his best strength. Also not afraid to get physical. As @Dabulls Collin Gillespie type. Love that we are already exploring the DMV area. It’s a hotbed ground.
  18. Agreed. With the way the portal is, I don’t think he comes back if he wasn’t told that he will get playing time. Good to see.
  19. Between a Nico Patti and Wheza Panzo, I don’t know if we are getting catfished or opening up a Deli.
