  1. Personally, I believe that the UB will dunk all over Ohio when it gets the 6’ 7” 240 lbs slasher who can get to the rim, but who can also bury it from 3 or kiss it off the glass. I know he’s out there.
  2. Kansas St has been horrible for the past 2 years. Georgia St isn’t in as good a conference as the MAC. If he’s thinking Bona, he’s not going to get much playing time next year with Lofton and Welch. Maybe he looks at Buffalo and sees Segu, Brewton, Jack, and possibly Nickleberry clogging the lane. 6’ 5” for a guard? Come on home, baby.
  3. I would rather get a 6’ 9” 240 lb slasher. A guy that rebounds, scores at the rim, shoots the mid range jumper, makes his foul shots, and can dish it when the opponent collapses. With time he develops a shot from 3 and starts to intimidate opposing players with wicked shot blocking skills. Then, he not only stays 4 years and never contemplates transferring or declaring for the draft, he gets his younger, more talented brothers and cousins to commit to UB. What would induce such a phenom? The wings? Nah...snow in April, man.
  4. Bama struggled to beat the 15 seed, overwhelmed the 10 seed, and fell to the 11 seed. Not an impressive tournament.
  5. UB has been rated higher (per kenpom) than BC in 9 of the past 10 seasons, including 4 trips to the NCAAs, 1 trip to the NIT, and another post season trip with Reggie. BC has had 1 trip to the NIT under Cristian in that span. Kid went to a better conference but a bad program. Will Regan was a bench warmer at UVA, but a good player at UB. Molson was a stud at Canisius, but a role player at Seton Hall...and now he’s looking for somewhere over the rainbow. Good luck. The Bulls have gotten lucky with some 4th year transfers. Josh Freelove, Wes Clark...maybe Jack Got to get some good young guys in. I would be very leery of any players from multiple programs.
  6. Shouldn’t the Bulls assume that Jack will replace Graves’ role, and concentrate on getting some good freshmen instead of trying to fill the roster with more upperclassmen? Jack is coming from a better conference and has impressive stats. Molson? I wouldn’t touch him with a ten foot pole at this point. ‘Ticket’ Gaines? He’s got zero playing time. I wouldn’t gamble on him, although he might be the real deal.
  7. Just what that rivalry needs...Gentlemen, leave your weapons in the locker room.
  8. Why would Molson be a ‘get’ for UB? I don’t see it. His numbers at Seton Hall were not good. Too much baggage. The Bulls need players that are team oriented. He also seems short in the skills department, and never saw a shot he didn’t like.
  9. Got it. How does Bona get to pay its coach triple what UB does?
  10. How does a small school like Gonzaga afford $3 mil, a tiny school like Bona pay $900k, and a huge school like Buffalo struggle to pay $300k with paltry incentives? There is something to consider. Is it that Buffalo has football? It doesn’t have baseball, hockey, lacrosse, soccer...am I missing something?
  11. That’s reasonable. Pitino indisputably is a winner, but not one that should be hired, for obvious reasons. Gonzaga of the East? I doubt that will ever happen. The fact that Few has stayed at Gonzaga is remarkable. What are the odds that a comparably capable coach would stay at one school to nurture and tweak his team, while forgoing huge financial incentives every year or so? Slim to none.
  12. Well, he’s mortal. And Iona is perennially a top XC team nationally, but I don’t see Iona becoming a national power in men’s basketball. Pitino is probably looking to bolster or restore his reputation, after his recent embarrassing charades, in an attempt to gain employment at another P5 school. You mentioned Gonzaga of the East. That’s rich. As if Gonzaga and it’s mystique materialized overnight ala Oats, for example. Gonzaga increasingly has been perceived as a national power for years. Few stayed there for the whole ride. Those are years that Rick Pitino doesn’t have, unless he’s made a pact with the devil. I’m not disputing his desire or ability to coach. Turning a team from a crap conference into a national power takes time, if it can be done at all.
  13. He’s coaching against the Count. Don’t bet against the Count. Which reminds me of an old adage: Don’t bet the horse, bet the jockey.
  14. Flagship SUNY? Really? Binghamton, Stony Brook, Albany? There is no SUNY flagship.
  15. Getting heated. Time out. Who has the .465 stat...Reggie? Give me a break. He came in to a situation where there was nothing. Nothing but hopelessness. And he started to build a DI program, which never made it to the NCAAs but at least it reached respectfulness. The shot about his role at Canisius? That’s a low blow if there ever was one. Look at the history of Canisius basketball. It isn’t pretty (and I’m an alum). Beilein stands out, and Barron had a run...haha - his team made it to the CBI or whatever lies below the NIT. Even MacKinnon’s record there was mediocre, although his 1963 team made it to the NIT final. Reggie’s record at Canisius is actually better than average in comparison to several former Griff coaches. I hope Whitesell is successful at UB, but I doubt that he will ever lead the program to sustainable winning. UB doesn’t have $10 mil to turn the page on bad hires, but his was a bad hire.
  16. It’s more than money to me. Root for the teams in your conference. If they win, it reflects positively on you, too. Why would you want a result that besmirches your conference? It’s absurd. But to each his own.
  17. If the Bonnies beat LSU, watch the media tie it in with the Covid saga. St Bonaventure’s president, Dennis DePerro, recently died from Covid complications. It is sad. But the media will devour it. Bet on it.
  18. I’m rooting for Ohio and Bona to go to Sweet 16. If Kent or Akron were the MAC rep, it might be different.
  19. It’s a great day for the Irish. Unless you’re a Murphy, I guess. His defense worked like a charm against the Bull’s in Hurley’s first MAC tournament game. That Bull’s team had Javon McCrea and E Michigan stifled him in that game.
  20. Many on this board have stated that Buffalo had the edge in talent, not only this year but last year. I didn’t see it last year, and I don’t see it this year. As far as I’m concerned, Akron, Toledo, Buffalo, Kent St, Ohio, and BG had pretty commensurate talent this year. Is Whitesell a good coach? No. Will the Bulls be better next year? No. Should UB be looking for a new men’s basketball coach? Yes. Will they? No. Alnutt has a different vision.
