  1. Wouldn’t shock me if he went there. I think it was pretty obvious he was coming here. Wouldn’t shock me if he and Noah Williams went there. Noah is “committed” but when there’s a coaching change players can get granted release.
  2. Bc of the extension we got an extra 250k from the buyout. For whatever that’s worth.
  3. Great expectations will be placed on Nate. We know what that means...if he doesn’t win tournament games he will get fired.
  4. Everyone is gonna transfer now. I’m joking but not really. I expect massive cause and effect here
  5. Everyone is gonna transfer now. I’m joking but not really. I expect massive cause and effect here
  6. Wow. I’m stunned. I wish him all the luck in the world. But this sucks. Salt in the wound to us. This is gonna suck for next season. I wonder what this will do for our incoming players. Ugh!
  7. I mean a few things... Segu is listed at 6’0 160. That’s a listed height/weight. It would shock me if he actually was that. If he were to transfer, a program might view this a con and not take him on. His play on the floor left a lot to be desired. I’m from the camp that his better days are ahead of him once he fills out physically and develops on the court. But if he were to transfer teams will say he was a big defensive liability, couldn’t hold his own against taller guards, has no outside shot, got pushed around when driving to the rim often. To me more flaws in his game were uncovered that if he were to transfer his options would be limited. So a program out there has to consider would it be smart to take on a would be sophomore with flaws or give that scholarship to a high schooler with more upside. And I know what you might be thinking...there’s ton of programs out there, he could def help this school or that school. But ask yourself this...usually when players transfer they want to go to higher profile schools. So if he wants to go to a P5 it ain’t gonna happen. If he wants minutes sure he can go to BS State Univeristy out of the no one cares conference. So if Segu just wants minutes sure he can go get them from a lesser school than us but a better school than us could be out of the picture based on his performance and height deficiencies.
  8. The landscape of college basketball has changed. Transferring is no longer looked at as a negative thing. In fact you are seeing now...players on mid majors have a good season or two then look to transfer to big programs. Or bc of coaching changes players bolt. Look at the kid from Ohio that just transferred. He is now at Xavier. It’s just another way to find talent aside from high school recruiting and JUCO ranks. I hope no one transfers. Especially Rondo. But if he were to I think his stock is pretty low...would he be able to do better than us?
  9. I agree that this off season the staff has to grow and develop the talent returning and coming in. But about the pull up jumper...we aren’t saying it’s the only things but it’s a part of a repertoire that Segu should have. As a point guard Segu is playmaker first no doubt but imagine if he had a jumper teams would have an even tougher defending him. They wouldn’t be able to sag off him and prevent him from driving bc they’d have to respect his jumper. This would open things up offensively and thus allow him to create.
  10. Call it cliche but I’m a Tar Heels fan bc of MJ.
  11. I think it’s because people and pundits still don’t believe you can have sustained success at Buffalo. Guess we gotta keep proving them wrong.
  12. Ok bc you’re poking me...BCs best finish to a season since joining the acc was 28-8. Their very first season in the acc. So that stuff about rankings is meaningless if oh let’s say they were ranked in December but finished the season 21-13. https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/schools/boston-college/ I’m sure they would’ve had better success had they stayed in the current big east with all the other catholic schools. My point is BCs move was football driven. Relating that to UB, any move we make must make sense for football first before all the other sports. Despite our basketball programs having much more success and notoriety than the football program.
  13. I mean at this point if we don’t sign Hawkins.
  14. When I said it’s king I meant in the general landscape of college athletics. That nothing happens in terms of conference realignment unless football approves. An AD isn’t gonna make power moves like that unless football benefits. So basically we can’t do what’s right for basketball bc of football. Look at Boston College...are they really an ACC caliber school? How’d that move turn out for their basketball team. It was all football driven.
  15. Fred Hoiberg is the leader in the clubhouse. He wants back in and needs a P5 job. I suspect if hired he will coach there a few years then move up.
  16. Maybe not 35 pounds but Segu needs the same workout plan lol
  17. I agree. UB is a basketball school. But we do have football and in college sports football is king. Football moves the needle. We all want to leave the MAC but in order to do that football must lead the way.
  18. I doubt he interviewed as you said. I think it never got passed his agent asking UNLV and Nate saying no. I mean come on...UNLV is involved in the whole Nike scandal, they are in a mid major also and haven’t been good recently. That job is a step backwards. And if he interviewed during the tournament that would piss me off. How dare you look for a job while trying to prep your team for a big game. But I wanna believe it didn’t even get to that point. https://buffalonews.com/2019/03/26/ub-basketball-nate-oats-ncaa-tournament-midamerican-conference-cj-massinburg/ Great stuff in here about Oats endgame and possibly VA Tech. This is what Oats is looking for not UNLV
  19. Completely agree about Clark. He had a very throwback type of game with his pull ups. With his handle and at his size that pull up J was a weapon. That’s what Segu needs to develop. But Wes a 4 start SEC caliber player...whose talent oozed the minute he stepped on the court and there was no fear in him about playing against P5 teams. Wish we had him for more than half a season.
  20. While I like the Gonzaga of the East comparison for basketball we all have to remember that football leads the way. And bc of that the UCF model is thee one we need to emulate. They, for a mid major, have both basketball and football clicking and earning national attention.
  21. I’m not disappointed in him in the sense that I’ve lost faith in him. I’m just disappointed. “This is on me,” he said. “Hard with a one-day prep. We had to beat Arizona State. To put all your prep into that game. You got one day in between games and you got to figure out how to beat the No. 1 defense in the country. That’s a quote from Nate. Kinda sounds like an excuse. TT had the same amount of time to prep for us. Yes they prolly overlooked their 1st round opponent and spent some extra prep time on us. But if we wanna fancy ourselves the Gonzaga of the east we can’t keep coming up small. You would’ve thought we would’ve learned a lesson from the Kentucky experience. I’m not discounting our season. I’m talking about for 2 hours on Sunday...we were out classed on the bench and on the floor. No shame...just grow from it. We will break through sooner than later with Nate at the helm. https://www.niagara-gazette.com/sports/ub-s-magical-run-halted-by-texas-tech/article_06313289-4242-5430-a64c-7b7a5204dc07.html
  22. I agree that there’s no entrenched starter at the 4 or 5. And hey if he comes in and learns the system both offensively and defensively and earns a starting role I’m all for it. Whatever makes the team better. My only fear is that once again we are placing unfair expectations on him bc of YouTube clips. Much like we did with Rondo and Williams. And look at some of the fan base now...already giving up on those two. That’s all.
  23. I’m not looking for a fight here but what makes you think Hawkins has “it”? That you’re so ready to put him in the starting lineup. Is it bc he’s 6’10? Bc he’s a 4 star rated as opposed to the 3/3.5 that Jeenathan was? He hasn’t stepped foot on a college court and he’s in the starting 5...gotta earn that. Plus have you seen his body...it needs work. Perkins didn’t become chiseled right away...just like it’s going to take him a little bit. I agree this is his best chance to start sooner than later but I don’t think he comes in and starts right away.
