  1. Would be a solid pickup and like a recruit with 4 years left. I like the fact he wants to catch the ball too. If we can start incorporating the RB passing game into what we do, ala Alvin Kamara, that could be devastating in our league. We have a couple Christ the King kids on the roster, so maybe they can talk up UB. I see Western KY on his list too. Have a been asleep at the wheel on that team or are we just getting to be on par with that group for recruits? 2 Western KY references in one day struck me as odd.
  2. Awesome comment. Maybe it's a degree program he is going for? Looks like their highest draft pick was a 2nd rounder in 2017, Forrest Lamp with the Chargers. Last pick was 2018, 4th rounder Joel Iyiegbuniwe with the Bears. The most well know (to me anyway) NFL player was Tyler Higbee - TE for the Rams (4th round pick). Also, Jack Doyle of the Colts went there but was undrafted. Maybe it's a TE haven or something. Good luck, he served us well. I think he could have been a big part of our offense next year with Patterson and Marks' departure, but hopefully he gets some numbers and get a look at the next level. Osborn and Mabry at least got on rosters after their departures. Osborn had some special teams opportunities, Mabry is practice squad.
  3. It wasn't terrible, they just had times when it looked like they would open up a lead, but then they would do some dumb things, turnovers, bad shots, lots of 1 on 4 types of drives. It was definitely some rust, but Ball St. wasn't running away with anything. I don't think they were ever down by more than 3. 2nd half was significantly better, lots of the 3's hit and the good thing was they were open 3's, not the contested shots, they were finding the open man. For a 2 week layout, they were much better than I expected. Mballa is a beast. Hopefully the lure of the transfer portal doesn't screw us, but he is fun to watch.
  4. I hope he has success either with the Eagles or somewhere else. He is a good athlete and did well for us. I'm rooting for the young man. With some of the things he went thru, he could have gone down a bad road, but to see this development, it shows he looked for a niche and and kept himself in shape and developed some new skills.
  5. He was coach of the year, got them to #15, but lost the final 3. Marshall must think they are an SEC team that just missed out on the football playoffs. Either that or they didn’t like him being such a jackass in the sideline and being halfway out in the field every other play
  6. A Christmas Story kicked our ass!!
  7. #8, that's pretty good! I wish it had been more like our regular season games with the high powered offense, but I'll take the win!
  8. Hopefully he can find a good landing spot to showcase his talents a bit more next year, however, run blocking is a must in the NFL, so he has that experience which should help. Now he can do some pass catching. We have had a very good run on TE over the last several years. Hopefully some guys on the roster and our new crop can step in and keep it moving. This is going to happen a lot and I expect we will pluck some guys from the portal as well, so hopefully the give and take will benefit us as well.
  9. And hopefully the knee heals by the time the NFL needs to see it and have the doctors evaluate it.
  10. https://www.wkbw.com/sports/college/ub-running-back-jaret-patterson-declares-for-the-2021-nfl-draft I hope he has great people in his corner to lead him in the right direction. We will see which team can find a place for him to advance at the next level.
  11. You are right, we don't have the championships to show, but we have the most MAC wins since 2017 and have been to the championship game 2 of the last three years, I believe most program fan bases would be very happy with those results and we have another solid recruiting class, possibly our best ever, coming in and we have a lot of production coming back. I think the future is bright. Look at programs like Akron or Eastern Michigan over the years. They are just happy to have football. They have been Division 1 a lot longer than us and have been in the MAC a lot longer than us, but they are still bottom dwellers. Northern Illinois had some good years and the Fleck years at Western Michigan. I just want to keep building on what we have. You have to remember that Buffalo is still learning how to win. Once you get that and build the confidence, sky is the limit. Perhaps dominate was too strong a word I would rather be where we are than any other MAC program.
  12. I have my concerns about Patterson coming out. I hope it’s not my desire to have him back, but it’s feeling like a Tyree Jackson situation all over again. He is a very good running back and think he can do well at the next level, but I am worried that a few things will be held against him. He didn’t finish the season strong in the MACC, plus now he has an injury that everyone will need to research deeply. He’s still 5’9” which was an issue coming to college, it will be held against him again. He comes from a MAC school, so that shaves some points from him. I see these draft rankings and I don’t see him any higher than 8 wherever I look. I don’t think his combine will be eye popping so that will likely not bump him. What makes him special doesn’t show up in the combine except maybe the interview portion. I really hope it works out for the young man, whichever way it goes. I hope he gets better advise than Tyree, but people in the business don’t always tell the truth. Either way, thanks for a great season, getting UB some national attention and being such a great, humble young man. Best of luck whatever you decide!
  13. I grew up an SU fan due to my proximity, but how the mighty have fallen. He knows in his soul they should have lost the game, unfortunately our team hasn't learned how to finish yet. A loss and a too close call significantly would affect his recruiting. No chance we play them while he is still the coach. No trash talking was involved.
  14. 1st Team All-American, but not a finalist for the Doak Walker? How does that work? Oh right, he doesn't play for Clemson or Alabama, how silly of me.
  15. That's sad for the program and players. A very unfair season all around. I can't believe that no other team would want to play. Is it due to the short time? Didn't see when that was supposed to be played. A 2-8 team in a bowl game. We are on the brink of hell.
  16. You also need to consider the league we are in. I would rather be a contender every year and keep getting really good recruits and dominating versus the rest of the league. Every team seems to be good for 2 year then complete crap for several years. Ball State hadn't won the championship since 1996! That's typical MAC. We need to dominate for a few more years and move on ala Marshall when they left the MAC. It would have been great to have a championship this year, but honestly, the player choked. They got punched and didn't react well. As for play calling, maybe a few suspect calls, but if Marks makes the catch, it's an easy TD. That was 100% the right play call, but coaches can't catch balls. Hold players accountable as much as the coaches. Did the OL underperform or was Ball State that much better than what Patterson played so far? VanTrease played out of his mind and should be commended. Nunn had two really bad drops that would have been potential game changers. Shit happens, I was as pissed off as anyone, just ask my wife. Let's hope everyone learns from this and brings their A game to the Bowl game and beat Marshall. That will be a solid program win. That's my opinion on the subject.
  17. We didn't get tested. Don't know how to get up from a face punch. Rough night all around.
  18. I would have thought Kayode Awosika would have been in the rank, maybe Fuzak or Klenk. OL are often UDFA candidates and Practice squad guys. I would be surprised if none of them made it to a camp.
  19. Probably not, but I really feel that Buffalo will become a balanced offense next year. Run will still be our bread and butter with this coaching staff, which I wholeheartedly endorse. But with Brian Plummer coming in and Patterson and Marks moving on after next year, the offense will look different. It's hard for an 18 year old to see that vision however when there are so many high octane offenses flinging the balls around!
  20. I know he went to Kansas first, struggled and got his payday. Then he went to Liberty and guided them into the Division 1 ranks. I think he realized that schools like Buffalo and Liberty played to his strengths and who he is as a man. I credit him with the start of our current success and never begrudged him for going after the money, but I do think another year would have gotten him to a football school where he could have had success. Unfortunately his wife's hear condition led to his retirement. I think a lot of young men benefited from his tutelage.
  21. I know we are ranked 5th in the MAC, but I would agree we got 16 quality recruits. In years past, if we got 1 or 2 3-stars that was huge. Now are getting everyone as 3's with a a single 2-star in there. Terrific balance and great coverage in high school football power states. Well done LL and Co.!
  22. I saw the same, would be a shame to lose him, but you never know what goes into these decisions. Hopefully we are still in the mix. WRs thought would have concern coming to a program that has 7 pass attempts in a game. We are playing to our strength, but people want a system that fits them. Notice how many large offensive lineman we can get. We have reputation as a OL factory.
  23. For Clarity Good Dude = LL, not Jim Rome 😁
  24. It was a really good interview, he's a good dude. He hit the nail on the head too. Recruits are told not to go to a 2-10 team because the coach will be fired, but don't go to a good team either because the coach will go to a better opportunity. That's the issue with the MAC not being a destination job. The only teams that have coaches stick around are 5-7, 6-6, 7-5. Good enough not to get fired, bad enough not to draw attention. I would rather have a coach in demand and bring in the next star coach until we get to a destination conference. Our last 3 ADs at Michigan, Auburn and UCF? Head BB coach at Alabama? Gill goes to Liberty and between him and Freeze turn them into Top 25. I'll take it. I don't want Lance to go, but I have faith in Mark Alnutt to bring us the next great coach if he has to.
  25. And another set of twins on the Howze brothers, let's hope for more great things from these two!
