  1. In the Northwestern case the NLRB decided to not make a finding as to whether the football players were employees. The did not get to the merits of the claim and decided to find that making a decision on the merits would not effectuate the policies of the National Labor Relations Act. The Board said that asserting jurisdiction over the football players "would not promote stability in labor relations due to the variety of state labor laws laws that would apply to football teams at state run institutions." In the long run I think that the NLRB will punt the issue again under the same theory.
  2. Except UB is a public institution and joining the Ivy League would throw a wrench into the NLRB decision involving Dartmouth. I prefer Molson Golden to either of these two. At what level do you think the Ivy League plays football?
  3. There actually is a very simple answer to all your questions. They would all be in answered in a collective bargaining agreement. In an update, the Dartmouth team voted 13-2 to join the union. What happens next is that Dartmouth will appeal and seek a decision from the full NLRB. The losing party would then have the right to appeal to the United States Circuit Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. The case could eventually reach the Supreme Court. Although a key factor in the decision so far, was the fact that the Ivy League is made up of eight private institutions. The NLRB declined to take cover the football players at Northwestern, because Northwestern was the only private college in the Big 10. The rest of the Big 10 is public universities (like UB), that are not covered by the National Labor Relations Act. Because of the amount of games that Dartmouth plays against public universities, I think the NLRB will decline to take coverage of college athletics.
  4. Just like the final two International Bowls. Back to back Bulls v. Huskies.
  5. Homecoming is October 19th against Western Michigan. Out of towners book your rooms now. Also the Alumni Achievement awards dinner will be the Thursday night before ht game, if you can come in for a longer weekend.
  6. Correct. While there he signed a number of items that Athletics has used in fundraising.
  7. There were changes in the 2017 tax bill that had some impact on donations to college athletics. Most notably making none of the payment for better seating to games deductible. Previously you could deduct 85% of those payments. There may have been other changes that impacted donations for endowments.
  8. The other Love Field is in Dallas.
  9. His induction was announced in December 2023. He was in Indonesia on vacation. If he is like most people a vacation like that is planned well in advance. Was he supposed to cancel?
  10. I had seen the facility named Love Field someplace else the other day. Hopefully, you have the right name. The other place holds a dark place in American history.
  11. None of these three were run out of UB. All three took positions that were steps up from UB, UCF, UConn and Auburn, respectively. White and Manuel both moved up from where they went left for and are now in the SEC and Big 10. Greene is now at Tennessee working for Danny White again.
  12. We could make the ACC happy and take Notre Dame out of the Big 10 and then find one other school.
  13. Based on the announcement of the scheduling for the next three seasons (before they have to go back to the drawing board with the addition of UMass) the schedule should be release any day. Travel Tip for Out of Towners: If you are going back to Buffalo for a game or games, book your hotels rooms before the Bills schedule comes out. Once that schedule comes out Saturday night rates will go through the roof.
  14. Julius Erving just turned 74. His last two choices for college were UB and UMass. He went to UMass because they hired his high school coach as an assistant. This per former UB man's and women's basketball coach and former AD, Ed Muto. Sprry for the triple post. It did not look like the first attempt was posted.

  17. Separate thread: The Athletics' Nicole Auerbach beat Thamel by three minutes.
  18. The MAC has its fair share of football only schools. It does not work. Neither does football independence for schools other than Notre Dame and possibly Army and Navy. At some point UConn will have to bite the bullet and join.
  19. UMass is back, for all sports, per The Athletic. How long for UConn?
  20. Magic number to go Cleveland is one. Although looking at the standings it would appear to be two, but UB beat Miami and swept Ohio. So a UB win or a loss by either Miami or Ohio sends UB to Cleveland.
  21. Calhoun told Reggie that night that he was never coming back to UB to play. UNC came as part of three game deal. Their top guard was Ed Cota, whose high school coach was on staff at UB, Roc Eisenberg.
