  1. First time Syracuse is hosting a ranked non-conference opponent in the Dome since 1984.
  2. As someone who spent my last three years at UB the first three years of Division III i can tell you there was a dedicated fan base that at times appears to have been stronger than the fan base until a few years ago.
  3. UB has such alumni. They have donated to the university to parts other than athletics.
  4. Interesting trivia about James Ailinger . Just before he died he wasw th oldest living former NFL player. https://www.nytimes.com/2001/04/01/sports/james-ailinger-ex-nfl-player-dies-at-99.html
  5. We played Manhattan seven and five years ago.. Seven years ago at home and five years ago in the Barclays as the return game for the ESPN Bracketbuster. That was part of a tripleheader at the Barclays. That was up against the Potato Bowl as predicted in May 2013, http://www.ubfan.com/board/index.php/topic,14167.msg161931.html#msg161931
  6. Sorry. If you want to look at a comparison St. John's has drawn 5,000 only once this year on campus in a 5,600 seat facility. New York City is even less of a college sports town than Buffalo. I think the problem people have is that they see these facilities from big conference full of fans and think that UB should be like that. Look at schools like Kansas State, Cal, Miami (Florida) or Virginia Tech* how do they draw? These are non-basketball schools, in the Power 5 conferences, that are rarely on TV at home. The true blue bloods of college hoops will draw, the rest are in the same boat as UB trying to make a dent in the market and get people to games. * I did not look up their attendance figures so I may be wrong, but it just a gut feeling that I have.
  7. Most schools who are under investigation try to figure out what the sanctions are and self impose them before the NCAA comes down with the penalties. Self sanctioning softens up the NCAA.
  8. Forgot about the the following weekend because I will not be able to shop it because I will be at the bowl game and flying around the country.
  9. First channel 2 would have to dump out of Premier League coverage. Not sure the network would be happy with them doing that. Channel 4 will have CBS college basketball coverage on. Channel 7 will have bowl games on. Local channels have very little options to be able to show a local sporting event over their obligations to show network programming. YOu need a perfect storm to be able to have a game on local TV like the football game this year. It does not appear that lightning is going to strike twice this year. The other big thing that could work attendance (which putting ht e game on local TV will hurt walk up ticket buying) is the date. It is the last Saturday before Christmas and it is huge shopping day.
  10. It looks like it appears for a short period of time and then goes away.
  11. You can edit your own posts. Look for the edit link next to the quote link.
  12. The scandal may have involved the enrollment of one player, but it had major repercussions throughout the university. https://www.nytimes.com/2006/02/04/sports/ncaabasketball/slowly-st-bonaventure-is-finding-its-way-back.html
  13. That team had two future NBA players on the team. One was Howie "Butch" Komives, whose biggest claim to fame was being traded by the Knicks to the Pistons for Dave DeBusschere., that led to the great championship Knick teams of the early 70s. The other was future Hall of Famer Nate Thurmond, who played the early part of his career in the shadow of Russell and Chamberlain and the end in the shadow of Abdul-Jabbar. Thurmond was a great center.
  14. Turner Gill retired from coaching at Liberty University earlier this week, The retirement was because of issues with his wife's health. https://www.roanoke.com/sports/liberty-football-coach-turner-gill-abruptly-retires/article_aa74d14a-68ff-5b28-8ada-17e0a32db72d.html
  15. St. Louis and Pitt played there as part of a tournament like UB played in Belfast. It was not them scheduling a home game there.
  16. Trip is all booked. Flying into New Orleans on Wednesday ioght and back to New York out of Mobile on Sunday morning. Team hotel booked as well. Who else is going?
  17. And exactly where would this "home" game be played? Taking a wide definition of New York City, from MSG to Barclays to the Nassau County Mausoleum Coliseum to the Prudential Center which one of these facilities would be cheap enough to guarantee that UB would break even on the road home game?
  18. Still one vote in the AP Poll and 3 points in the Coaches Poll.
  19. Embroidered logo. https://shopubbulls.merchorders.com/buffalo_bulls__hats_and_scarves__-__Buffalo_Royal_Heavyweight_Twill_Pro_Style_Hat__Bull_Spirit_Mark__Item_6-38-YQ1438H
  20. The game also created one of the best ads for UB academically from Notre Dame basketball coach Mike Brey, whose son was on the the team. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aDwrjbUvXFE
  21. The night before Thanksgiving would be a tough night for local students to go to a game. It has become a huge night for college students to go out with all of their friends as the come home for the holiday weekend. All the locals who went away are home for the first time and they all go out.
  22. I do not think that basketball and hockey fans are they same market in Buffalo. If they were, either the Braves would still be in Buffalo or both teams would be gone.
