Surprise surprise, toledo chokes again. Let the perpetual “next year” commence.

Nice pickup. Presutti and GH3 get the shoutout on his IG announcement. Plus all our freshmen are all over his post with positive stuff, so it looks like they're still invested here after a bad season. Also Gavin Doty liked Oboh's post. I think we're in good shape with him. If I had to guess our freshman class will be Jackson, Oboh, and Doty, with the other 3-4 spots filled by transfers/JUCOs.

I looked back at my comments to see if I overhyped any of the FR. I will admit that I was guilty of focusing more on the positive, but I did mention defensive shortcomings. I was being a little defensive in response to 'borderline D2' characterization. That said I decided to compare Sabol to Osojnik who was on all freshman team. First I want to acknowledge that any of the statistical comparisons are based on a limited number of observations. I still feel that it is appropriate in this comparison to compare MAC stats - despite it being a smaller sample - as I feel that it is a more apples to apples comparison. The first reason it is a better comparison, is Strength of Schedule - UB had a tougher schedule than EMU. The majority of the stats are pulled from Sports Reference and include non-D1 opponents. Second - Sabol played more in OOC than Osojnik. So Sabol's overall stats get skewed downward by including more stats when he was still adjusting to the D1 level. Without further delay, here are the comparisons. So my overall assessment would be Sabol was a slightly better offensive player, but Osojnik was better defensively based on RBG, STLG and BLKG. I have no qualms with MAC picking Osojnik over Sabol - but would say that Sabol is much closer to the top of MAC FR than he is the bottom. Hopefully this presents a balanced enough view.

Sabol is a nice three point shooter, albeit streaky. Lacks athleticism. He reminds of Zach Filzen. I liked Filzen too, but always thought be would have been a better role player of the bench in favor of a multi level scorer.

Would I rather get the #1 seed with everyone on the roster having at least one more year of eligibility or the worst MAC team in two decades that will lose its 3 best players?

If we have a coach that's at UB for 13 years, I want 8-10 NCAA appearances and we are in line for an at-large every year in case we stumble in the tournament. Is that too much to ask?? 😂 But yes, I want a coach that wants more. That is how we will get out of this deadass conference. We should be headed to the American at the very least.

I think what you’re saying is give me a coach who is using the mac as a stepping stone. A coach who has higher ambitions. Like a Hurley and Oats. The MAC has coaches who are newbies, retreads, ambitious or old guys who seem comfy where they are. Wide range of coaches.

Toledo going down in the tournament, like the masters, it’s an annual tradition. No auto bid to the NIT either. I laugh at them but it’s kinda sad lol.

She has street cred on rebounding. If a 5'3 point guard can get 1 (almost 2) triple-doubles, 5'10"-6'2" people should be able to be better than -15 on the boards. Hopefully we focus on that before tomorrow at 10am. Language is overblown in this age of PC crap and hurting peoples feelings. If it comes from a place of love, sometimes you need to rip some ass.

I would sign up for that. 3-4 JUCO/Transfers feels like a good number still allowing out future sophomores and freshman to grow in their roles. If GH3 keeps all of the freshman, I will be impressed and will give me some positive vibes.

In watching the highlight video, it's funny looking at the gyms. They'd never fly in NYS with the wall so close to the baseline without padded walls. Every AD would be crying when the lawsuits rolled in when little Bobby got hurt against the hard wall. Interesting to watch. We'll see how he translates over here. None of the (very brief) highlights that I saw looked like a gauntlet of opposition, but he has a nice frame and moves pretty smooth. Reminds me more of a young X. It took X a few years to come into his own, so we'll see if he is similar or a unicorn.

Educate me. What is the Villanova system (that I just witnessed at UB this year)? What type of guys is GH3 looking for (and didn't find here, yet)?
