  1. I think that's one of the upsides of next year. We go into a season with no expectations. No pressure. Metrics get tossed out and its all about growing and developing and making a run in March. Kind of a reset.
  2. Yes he had to give permission and upon giving permission everything spiraled at a pace that IMO overwhelmed Alnutt and was too fast for him. He always seemed a step behind and acted too late. Maybe at the presser tomorrow (I believe its tomorrow) reporters can ask Alnutt about the process. He'll save face anyway but on the surface it looks like he was blindsided. The whole BH debacle happened. He didn't have a short list prepared. As a result had to hire a search firm. He aimed high and realized aiming that high is costly and then settled on Whitesell. Not that there is anything wrong with Whitesell but its pretty obvious he wasn't the first choice.
  3. I think what has become apparent is that Alnutt failed to handle this situation properly from beginning to end. He seemingly was caught off guard by Oats departure and had no contingency plan in place to both handle the immediate fall out and long term plan to hire a coach.
  4. Totally agree with the lack of big men on the roster. Its a desperate area of both need and concern. I expect big things from Johnson. Grant hopefully provides a quality role player and senior leadership. As for picking up players...several of us have said it. There are over 500 transfers out there and the high school recruiting isn't over yet either. We will be very late to the party but there are players we can go after. How good they will be depends. But there will be plenty of opportunity in the front court. Our back court seems set for next season.
  5. But isn't that where we revert back too next season? Best case scenario? Then try to build back up. To me if we win the MAC tournament next season that will be a major accomplishment.
  6. To me this is all because of football. For years the SEC has been known as Football first conference and now bc all these schools have deep pockets those football monies/exposure/resources are trickling down. You are also seeing it with UCF on smaller scale how football success can rapidly elevate all athletic programs. You've seen it with us too, but still more work is needed. Anyone agree/disagree?
  7. Agree with @UB05 Whitesell is quoted as saying he wants to touch base with all the players. And try to re-recruit the players mentioned. I think after that conversation if it goes poorly we will release them.
  8. Sure we lose 5 seniors and everything that goes with that but the cupboard isnā€™t bare. The roster isnā€™t gutted. When seniors move on the underclassmen have to step up. I expect that from guys like Graves, Jordan and Jeenathan. Add in Johnson and Grant still should be enough to compete in what will be a weak MAC. We need to now hit the trail and round out the roster. Get some height and depth. And begin recruiting for this upcoming season and beyond. The real work begins now.
  9. Iā€™m going to respectfully disagree. Sure we lost the entire incoming recruiting class but we still have a championship foundation. We need growth and development more than ever from Segu and Williams. Another year with Jordan. Two more years with Graves. And two senior transfers itching to play. No doubt we need more players and some front court help but recruiting is just beginning. UB: weā€™re still here!
  10. Yes if youā€™re the person being interviewed. If youā€™re doing the interviewing, hire a search firm and spend 2 weeks only to circle back to an in house candidate it makes UB look cheap, indecisive and under cuts Whitesell. We look like we settled.
  11. Sorry Reggie isnā€™t here. Heā€™s out back trying to figure out how many players it takes to run a dribble hand off.
  12. Wish we had Wes for longer than a half season. But Wes had a connection to Oats. So that was an exception. Guys I agree with the whole transfer thing. We are gonna be players in that market. Thereā€™s over 500 players listed itā€™s hard to think we wonā€™t get one or two or three. Itā€™s modern day college basketball. I just had a discrepancy with some of the players listed is all. Appreciate the time you took digging through all that and compiling the list. I just think if we do get transfers it will be under the radar guys. Who knows. And thatā€™s my whole point...we donā€™t have coach and we donā€™t know what direction we are headed in. I guess my impatience and frustration is just growing. Itā€™s all out of love though guys. Sincerely.
  13. Iā€™ve tried to bite my tongue but I can no longer. This list is a bit insane. Really...Players like Lawson and Lewis are gonna come to UB. We are talking about top 100 recruits who on the transfer market are being contacted by other top programs. Lewis for example is being ā€œre-recruitedā€ by Oats to stay at Alabama. And heā€™s been contacted by Duke. Even Utomi is being contact by North Carolina. Again I emphasize players from top schools are looking to transfer to other top schools and players at mid majors are looking to transfer up to top schools. We have to set our sights on the guys that fall through the cracks. So Iā€™m sorry to say we will be in the transfer market for at best secondary caliber players. Not former top 100 recruits. Dare I even say guys who can just provide a warm body. We have to find a diamond in the rough. Iā€™d be shocked to see us land a former big time recruit as a transfer. With Oats here sure. But as it stands we still donā€™t even have a coach and future direction.
  14. Loved them both. I thought McCrea was a little ahead of his time. He reminded me of a Draymond Green type player. But I voted for CJ. There was just that magical something about this run. Maybe itā€™s bc we fear we may never experience it again. CJ was vital to it so he gets my vote.
  15. Way to piss off our future head coach lol. I joke I joke. But itā€™s interesting that he responded. Yea he was defending his boy but why was he even reading? Makes me think heā€™s digging around getting a feel for the fan base and such bc he could be our guy.
  16. No. They are eligible right away. Only transfers have to sit out. Grad transfers are also immediately available.
  17. I would imagine that if we were waiting we would have some under table agreement in place. I agree last thing we want is a Josh McDaniels situation.
  18. ā€œItā€™s been real Buffaloā€....oh man that doesnā€™t sound promising.
  19. Oh well. Gone is the entire recruiting class. Bye. At this point the key is to not lose players currently on the roster. Whoever the coach will be will have his own plan. And there are over 500 transfers out there to pluck from. And still unsigned high schoolers. But not losing players currently on the team is key.
  20. Didnā€™t want to start a new thread but if this is true...whoa @trueblue32 didnā€™t realize you posted it too lol
  21. I really hope Turner gets a shot soon. Establishes himself with success and then comes here. He has two strikes against him, lack of experience and Reggie stank. Hopefully his road to coaching greatness makes a stop here in the future. Unless of course heā€™s a horrible coach lol.
  22. If indeed these 10 stay then they will be the real MVPs. And I as an alum and fan wonā€™t turn my back on them. For they can still defend our MAC title.
  23. However it went down this statement is a week too late.
