  1. I do not know, may be law school and two semesters of contracts played a role in the answer. Talking to staff would seem like a possible palace coup. Much like presidents have lists for replacements for high profile positions, ADs have similar lists, that they cannot do anything with until there is a actual job to fill.
  2. If you are looking for more information on recruiting and looking for it sites like Verbal Commits, the problem is that the students do not want to talk with sites like that. The problem is not with anyone on staff. I am one of the the fans who will see the schedule and see what games I can get to see and whomever is dressed is who I will root for that year. I guess this because there is nothing that I can do to get some one to go to UB. I live my life under the philosophy of John Milton Rivers who said there is no need to worry about things that you can control because you can control those things. For the things you can cannot control, why worry because there is nothing you can do to control the outcome. You may know Mr. Rivers by his playing name, Mickey Rivers who played for the Yankees among other teams.
  3. They cannot say anything about anyone to whom they have made an offer and/or interested in. That is an NCAA violation. Which is why there are no comments until the letter of intent is signed other a retweet, which was only allowed about five years ago. The answer to the question posed is that we are out recruiting and looking to bring the best players we can to UB.
  4. No. That could be interpreted as a firing, which would mean that UB would have to pay Coach Jack, rather Syracuse paying UB. Also what would happen if you had hired that person and then Coach Jack would have turned down the job or was not offered the job?
  5. This is not what the NCAA wanted. The NCAA would have preferred to keep the old system. The end of the old system and the NIL things came about because the NCAA wanted to keep the rights to NIL rights forever. That got bad legal advice in the O'Bannon case where he was seeking money when he was put on a UCLA legacy team in EA Sports NCAA basketball game. The same issue occurred when EA Sports started to use retired NFL players an they sued. That case went away quickly when they agreed to pay the retried players. The NCAA should have just said fine, work out deals with the former players. That would have prevented the Alston case from being filed on the heels of the NCAA losing O'Bannon and the insanity that goes on now.
  6. Which can be nothing on recruiting until a letter of intent is signed, other than a retweet of someone saying they have committed.
  7. Move it to the 8th Floor of Goodyear and that was me.
  8. Barely a week? It was just over 48 hours since the announcement. Did he know Coach Jack was leaving? Yes. But how do you start looking for a replacement when she still has the job? IF you start looking while she is your coach she could argue that she was fired and then ask for UB to pay her her buyout, instead of Syracuse paying a buyout to UB. I am all in favor of lawsuits, and full employment for attorneys, but only when necessary. Next weekend is the biggest coaching market in Minneapolis. Many conversations will take place and people hired.
  9. The run has nothing to do with the move. He is a Seton Hall alum (where he played against UB). He was going home even if they lost to Kentucky when Seton Hall opened up.
  10. Might I suggest that you read John Feinstein's A March to Madness, especially the sections on Pat Kennedy and Florida State.
  11. I was at Coach Jack's first game for UB against Canisius. Watching that game it appeared that UB had hit rock bottom. As hard as it is to do, I thought that the team could go winless that season. Some how Coach Jack molded that team to win 12 games and go .500 in conference. That first season showed that she had an ability to coach and get the most out of her players. By the end of her time at UB her teams could hold there own with any team in the country without being embarrassed. They can play with the with the UConns (2019 NCAA) and South Carolinas (2018 NCAA and 2021 Battle4Atlantis) and Tennessee (2022 NCAA). Her UB teams can play and beat all but the very top of top of women's basketball in the country, and that was because of size and depth but not coaching. I think her move to Syracuse was influenced by non-basketball issues, that she has spoken about openly over the years, that if they were not an issue she may not have gone to Syracuse. She has been at a Power 5 school and it ended poorly for her. The fact that she is an alum of Syracuse may get her an extra year on the win or fired path, but nothing more. She clearly knew that she could have stayed at UB for as long as she wanted to coach. As long as she was able to reach the NCAA or the WNIT twice over 5 year time frames. She should be thanked publicly and privately for what she has done at UB. From that first game at Canisius I never would have thought her last game would have been at Tennessee in the NCAA tournament. I wish her nothing but good luck at Syracuse, except if and when they play UB.
  12. When you make a donation to UB or any other charity you can designate what is to be done with the money. However, if you put too much of a restriction on the use of the money, they money will sit in the bank and only earn interest. I donated money once for football and said they should use the money to purchase a specific device for injuries. Until I took the restrictions off the money UB could not use the money. If anyone has questions about how to donate money for a specific purpose contact Athletics Development. http://bullsbwf.com/contact-us/
  13. They have been available for years. No one has stepped up to pay what they are looking to get for the naming rights. Want to put your name on something: http://bullsbwf.com/facility-naming-opportunities-2/ One other point on the money needed for anything. If you donate, thank you and you are part of the solution. If you do not donate and complain about a lack of money for anything in Athletics or any other part of UB you have two things to do. The first is look in the mirror, then either write a check or stop complaining.
  14. Just pointing out that it has been done before at UB, as most people here were probably unaware that we hired a prior Michigan State assistant to be a first time head coach. Also Coach Jack was an assistant there at one point in time, but was also head coach before coming to UB.
  15. Either that or he was the coach to be named later for when St. Bonaventure hired Tim Kenney away from UMass to be the AD.
  16. Been there, done that. I will pass. https://msuspartans.com/news/1999/6/21/msu_women_s_basketball_assistant_named_head_coach_at_buffalo.aspx
  17. Last time UB played there, one time UB recruit, Victor Cruz was at the game.
  18. It is all analytics. Watch the Sue Bird interview from 60 minutes last night, where she champions the mid-range jump shot.
  19. This is the problem that the women have agaisnt the top programs. This game was very similar to the South Carolina and Oklahoma games in the Bahamas. UB just has problems getting inside against the bigs of these schools. the other issue is depth. By the time the fourth quarter comes UB is too exhausted to make plays and shots. All of a sudden a close game has them down double digits and you did not even see that run coming at UB. This game busted my bracket as I had UB beating Indiana in the championship game. I did not think that UB could beat Tennessee and Oregon back to back, so I gave UB Belmont in the second round. That was a nice upset to have had in the bracket.
