The playing does not have to be in the first four games. It can be in any four games over the season. That was the change implemented last year. The old rule was that a person could play into up to 1/3 of the games for a season only at the beginning of the season. This is why players last year were playing a little bit hear and there last season. Think VanTreese.

General admission tickets in baseball is not new. I used to go to Yankee games buying general admission tickets. If i wanted more money for food instead of paying $1.50 for general admission I would pay $0.75 for bleacher seats. That was good enough for at least two hot dogs and a soda extra. I also own a ticket from the July 4, 1941 Lou Gehrig Memorial Game. It is a general admission ticket for $1.10.

The students today do not come close to what my friends did in the 70s. They would bring a keg into Rotary Field. If anything was left we would finish off in Goodyear and then head out for the night for some more.

I am not sure why student fees would be considered a subsidy at UB. A subsidy would be extra money outside of your basic funding structure, similar to the subsidies under the Affordable Care Act, (nothing political, just the first thing I could think of on how a subsidy work and that people would be familiar with). You get extra money to get what you need. UB student fees are the basis of funding athletics. So they are not a subsidy. It has been this way since at least the mid 1970s. Any money that UB can get out of Albany directly for athletics or from UB's general operating budget would be a subsidy.

Graduate students do not pay an athletic fee. They cannot use the gym facilities and must pay to go to games. UB has tried to make them pay the fees for at least 20 years but always meet resistance from the grad students and it never gets done.
