  1. Penn State went with Marquette's coach. http://www.statecollege.com/news/local-news/carolyn-kieger-named-penn-state-womens-basketball-head-coach,1479755/
  2. Another factor in not gong to the Big ten is that she has been there already and might not want to go back. Also there are two other high profile jobs that are likely to open up. One is Rutgers, where I believe C. Vivian Stringer will "retire" after signing day for "medical reasons"* Although as far as Rutgers goes you do not want to be the person to replace Stringer, you want to be the person who replaces the replacement. The other is North Carolina where the entire staff has been suspended pending an external investigation into how players have been treated. * I use the quotes because I believe she is going to be forced into retirement rather than being fired for cause. I think the fact that she is in all the Hall of Fame that she will be allowed to exit gracefully out of respect rather than being fired.
  3. Luke Murray would give UB some free publicity over the years as his father has shown up a lot in the past supporting whomever he was coaching. Also I love his hair line.
  4. For what it is worth the world's largest job fair for men's basketball coaches is this weekend in Minneapolis. It is also sometimes called the Final Four.
  5. Blair Brown Lipsitz has stepped down as UB volley ball coach. She is being replaced by assistant coach Scott Smith. She is leaving for "the best interests of her family". http://ubbulls.com/sports/wvball/2018-19/releases/20190402o5h6xp
  6. UB has 16 teams. Indorr and outdoor track are considered different sports, but are not listed separately on the website.
  7. That is assuming UB would get a full share immediately and did you calculate a smaller slice as the pie would be split up more ways?
  8. Alnutt was hired via Parker...so this was...expected. This could lead to Duke ties. Kevin White has lots of influence with Parker.
  9. If you want to know about what you can do I would suggest not starting at the top but with the Development Office. Depending on what your thoughts are for what you want to do there would be different people to contact. Work your way around this site http://bullsbwf.com/ and then contact the person who is in charge of what you would like to do. I do not know how you split up your $20,000.00 a year donation budget, but with a multiyear gift you could possibly name something after your self. The more you are willing to give the bigger the place where your name could go. I think that part of your frustration is over UB not being a final destination job for coaches and administrators. The question is if there really is a true final destination for a coach or administrator anymore. This is an issue even for the big boys. Saban walked away from the Michigan State for LSU (in a rather ugly situation, repeated when he went to the Dolphins and then Alabama). Williams walked away from Kansas for North Carolina (admittedly his alma mata). If you want a coach to stay for the long term at UB you need a coach like Frank Solich. He was fired because winning 9-10 games a year was not enough at Nebraska. He ends up at Ohio and is pretty much going to a bowl game every year with occasional trips to MAC Championship game. Everyone there is happy with that and he has no desire to go back to the BS that is involved with the big programs. The problem is that it is hard to find 60 year old coaches in that situation. The good news is that if the big programs are hiring away coaches from UB it means that UB is making the right hires and winning. In a world of haves and have nots it will be almost impossible for UB to match the salaries that the big schools can pay. So sit back and enjoy what is happening now an it will hopefully continue.
  10. Whether or not Hodgson is employed by UB is not definite, although he is still listed on the website. Most assistant coaches are on one year deals. The question is when did his contract expire. Should he be seen in Florida with Oats wearing Alabama gear? No. It is very possible that he knows he will not get the job and out of respect is not making any comments about his status. He has basically been silent on Twitter since the Oats signing. About four likes about Bama. There have been retweets of tweets pushing him for the head coaching job. He himself has not tweeted since just after the Texas Tech game. As for a backup plan. I assume that all programs have a short list of replacements for major positions. Why would UB want that list leaked? Also I would think they are doing full investigations of any potential hires to make sure that there are no skeletons in the closet. You would not want to hire a coach with issues. Do you want a hire like Michigan made with Rhonda Faehn, where she was let go over her prior ties to Larry Nassar? I do not.
  11. Here is exactly what was said by Alnutt: I believe that the next word will be the announcement of a press conference. If you are looking for something similar in the past, when Turner Gill left there was similar silence until the press conference announcing Jeff Quinn as the new head coach. Same as when Leipold was announced to replace Quinn. I have no problem with the silence. Better to conduct the search in silence than to be out in public. It is more professional.
  12. He has been underground. He’s the face of athletics. He should have been out there to address the public other than a terse release. The fact he did not is disappointing. Bad PR imo What more should/would he have said?
  13. Not sure it was that high, but they were loud and supportive of UB. Only stayed for one game because I had to be back at work Monday, so I flew home and went o Storrs for the women.
  14. Alnutt gave a statement. http://ubbulls.com/sports/mbkb/2018-19/releases/20190327oj0yni
  15. Other than saying there would be national search for replacing coaches who were either fired or left in the past, what statements were made by prior Athletic Directors? And that statement was made by Alnutt. http://ubbulls.com/sports/mbkb/2018-19/releases/20190327oj0yni
  16. There were good showing of UB fans in Mobile, Alabama, Tulsa, Oklahoma and Storrs, Connecticut this year. Not mention a nice contingent in Belfast, Northern Ireland. So yes, UB fans travel.
  17. It is all politics, but there reasons behind what happens. As for Stony Brook it has to do with who was in charge of the State Senate and this has been going on for decades. In the 1970s the leader of the Senate was Perry Duryea. His district included Stony Brook. Every extra dime for construction for SUNY went home. When he lost in his run for governor in 1978 to Hugh Carey all of a sudden there was tons of money for construction on the Amherst Campus, which allowed for a total renovation of the Student Union (Squire nee Norton Hall) into new facilities for the dental school. Eventually teh Senate Higher Education Committee was led by Kenneth LaValle, as in Kenneth LaValle Stadium at Stony Brook, and it was back to the 1970s as LaValle represents Stony Brook. As for MSG the tax exemption, it is property tax exemption only. That impacts revenues for New York City only. It has no impact on revenues for New York State. If upstate legislators want power to bargain they need to be wiling to vote for items that impact New York City only and hold back that support until they get something they want. The Long Island and Westchester legislators held back support for congestion pricing in Manhattan until some of that revenue was going to be used for the Long Island Railroad and Metro North systems. Manhattan needs congestion pricing to fix mass transit? Well UB needs a student recreation center. The margin for passage is small so there is power in holding back support for items to get something in return.
  18. We all get your frustration, we all are too. But as others have said, the extension (as brief as it was), got UB a $750k buyout. Would we rather have Oats than the buyout? I know I would. Do I wish the buyout was bigger, commensurate with his new 2/3 buyout? Yes, definitely. As far as being honest and upfront...we all got snookered. I read exactly what you wrote. You were upset that some one who signed a "five year" extension (it was only really one extra year from the deal he signed a year ago) left less than two weeks later. But you had no problem if he left after one or two years. Either way he would have not "lived up" to his contract and statements. How did the extension work out for me? I m still breathing and supporting UB. Seems it worked out well for me. It also worked out for many people on this board as well. It took, give or take an hour or two, about six hours before people were speculating on what the buyout for Oats was. So apparently, people here were expecting Oats to leave. You can look at the contract extension as a $250,000.00 donation to UB from Alabama on behalf of Oats. If you are Oats how do you say no to an offer that in the first year alone will most likely give you enough money to put your three children through college and over the contract will get you a level of comfort that two weeks earlier was unimaginable? I have seen coaches come and go at UB. Some left for greener pastures some were let go because of performance on or off the field of play. I have seen Athletic Directors come and go, from being moved out because they were felt to not be the right person or for greener pastures. This is 2019 and sports has been a business, and will continue to be a business, rather than fun and games for decades.
  19. The field house was paid for by designated fund raising for the field house as well a guarantee money from future football games.
  20. In six days Mark few has turned Gonzaga into the Buffalo of the West. Gonzaga knocked out by Texas Tech, just like UB.
  21. Not true. There has never been any discussion about dropping football or lowering football other than from people on message boards.
  22. People are also complaining that there has not been information coming from UB who is being interviewed. In reverse order: Alnutt Oats Hurley Leipold Leggette-Jack White Quinn Which one of these names did anyone hear about until almost the exact time of the official announcement? Alnutt was predicted at 1:30 AM on this site the morning that he was officially announced. The first regular media mention of him was about 5 minutes before the press conference. For what it is worth the prediction on Alnutt came after some discussions with people outside of Athletics and seeing that he just been followed on Twitter by, now hold your breath, Nate Oats.
  23. There were earlier posts about whether or not Oats was getting $2,4000,000.00. The answer is yes and a bunch of other perks and bonuses, including a perk for his boat. https://www.al.com/alabamabasketball/2019/03/alabama-coach-nate-oats-salary-contact-information.html
  24. So you are endorsing what you are criticizing. The extension was to keep him at UB for five more seasons. You are upset he left in two weeks but would be ok if he left after another year or two.
  25. You also have think about kids who want to go away for college. That is a major factor for many, wanting to get away from home. Missing form your list is Maceo Jack at George Washington.
