SUNY has nothing to do with it. Collectives are private entities created by donors. The school/state has nothing to do with it.

I think many forget that you can get a transfer with multiple years to play (that isn’t as easy to transfer out). Q had 3 years here, Mballa I believe did as well. You can get impactful players from the portal that aren’t 1 year rentals is all I’m saying. We need guys who can be impactful not just this upcoming year but the following one as well until these young guys can develop more. I don’t mind a rebuild. I just don’t want to be dead last and not competitive either. Last year we got beaten badly by the top teams and that was with guys like Curtis, Q and others here.

Well right now we have the same team as last year, minus Q, Curtis and Zid + Sy. None of the freshmen initially seem like they will be impactful in terms of scoring consistently, so we’ve lost a lot and gained a little. Some upperclassmen to balance out the roster seems ideal, IMO.

Still a ton of guys in the portal it seems.

Pretty standard that if a coach has a decent year they are extended/raise. Usually the coach negotiates to increase the staff pool as well. Plus I’m guessing the state automatically gives some raise, albeit it’s probably marginal. I think we’ve shown as a school that if someone is successful they’ll be rewarded. I see no reason to believe that wouldn’t be the case here too.

Whitesell also contractually has to look for another job and UB only owes the difference to what his new salary is. So the school is likely not on the hook for anything close to the $500k, but I guess time will tell.

Nice write up in TBN about the roster right now. Rachel mentions Ron Cook hasn’t practiced all Spring due to his injury at the end of the year las year. Still don’t know what the injury is, though. The position group seems loaded, between returners and signees.

Plenty of spots available. For every transfer portal player there is an open spot. They are very talented, they’ll land somewhere. Interesting question is if this counts as their one time transfer since they had a signed NLI.

Meh, it’s Women’s basketball. A sitting head coach can never tell their side of the story. So unless there was something egregious, in which case something would have been done already, it’s likely a nothing burger about hurt feelings. Let’s focus on the future.

Calling the program toxic without any real details what may/may not have been going on is crazy. Obviously not a great look from the outside but you don’t have a clue what might be going on. Let’s see how things shake out. Burke overproduced on the court with what she had. Now we’ll see how she develops a program.
