  1. Checks some of the boxes I was looking for. I’m trying to be positive. The last guy was a clown show. At least Lembo has been there and done it before. Seems like a safe choice, but that’s kind of what UB needs at this time. Get the program back on track.

  2. Without him UB athletics would still be at the bottom on the MAC with regard to their infrastructure. It's pretty sad that someone could have anything negative to say regarding his positive impact on UB. There's no one more worthy of a spot in the HoF than him.

  3. I don't hate hate it but I don't have any other opinion about it at this point. Not much to go on here. I think I was just ready for something new. Anything really.

  4. Peter Lembo (born April 16, 1970) is an American football coach and former player. He is currently the associate head coach and special teams coordinator at the University of South Carolina. In 2022, Lembo oversaw the highest rated special teams unit in college football with the Gamecocks. Prior to that, he was the assistant head coach and special teams coordinator at the University of Memphis, a position he assumed in January 2019. Prior to Memphis, he was the associate head coach and special teams coordinator at Rice University. Before joining the coaching staff at Rice University, he was the head coach at Lehigh University from 2001 to 2005, at Elon Universityfrom 2006 to 2010, and at Ball State Universityfrom 2011 to 2015. He was also the assistant head coach and special teams coordinator at the University of Maryland for two seasons. Lembo enjoyed success in each of his three stops as a head coach and accumulated a 112–65 career record over a 15-year period. His 79–36 record in ten seasons at the FCS level makes him one of the winningest coaches in the history of that classification. Also 2 Patriot League Championships. you want a winner at a lower division? He was really good at FCS. Could end up as a pretty good hire. He has spent time at an SEC school and BIG10 school recently and #1 special teams unit in the country. If he’s the guy, I’m ready to rally behind him.

  5. Can't be worse than what we've had the past 3 years.

  6. Uninspired hire of a coach with a mediocre at best resume, just what I expected from this constantly spiraling program.

  7. Tunney named it after his daughter, dummy. And if you can’t recognize the impact he’s made on UB Athletics, I can’t help you.

  8. I'm a fan of the hire. I covered Ball State a little bit when I was a sports anchor in Fort Wayne. My BSU connections were all positive about Lembo at that time and thought he was a solid head coach. Buffalo is looking for someone to stabilize their program and be here for the long haul. Lembo knows how to run a D1 football team and has won at the MAC level with lesser resources than he'll have going forward. I think we're going to need to be patient but I'm confident Lembo has what it takes to win at UB.

  9. Seeing how his teams looked on the field, not surprised by this.

  10. At least this happened quickly instead of lingering for weeks with candidates turning us down. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pete_Lembo

  11. In the end, there's nowhere to go but up from where Mo took this program. As long as he doesn't do to the football team what is currently happening with men's basketball, it is a big time win. There's a lot of work to do with this roster, starting at the QB spot, so hopefully he can bring one (or more) quality guys in immediately! There is no reason why UB can't be at or near the top of the MAC year in and year out, so if we aim for that, hopefully we can at least get to the point of being competent again.

  13. He had a .600 winning pct at Ball State, making him #2 of all Cardinals coaches. Right now I'd be fine with 6-7 wins. I don't think we're ever going to sniff the Top 25 ever again without an NIL program.

  15. I thought the Leipold hire was exceptional, Leipold was great I thought the Mo hire was great, Mo was not great I think this is an awful hire. I really hope I’m proven wrong.

  16. Bill Greiner was inducted into the UB Athletics HoF and didn’t even play in a single hockey game for UB! What a sham!

  17. I just realized that while Tunney was playing for the Brantford Majors, there was another up and coming kid playing for the Brantford Steelers (Minor Hockey)....some 10 year old guy by the name of Gretzky. A lot of good came out of (1971) Brantford.

  18. btw - congrats to Tunney Murchie for his UB Athletics Hall of Fame induction! Let's take a look at those Hall of Fame stats!

  19. Absolutely not. Tony Annese (D2 Ferris State) makes $150k Jason Eck (Idaho) makes $300k Matt Entz (NDSU) made $400k, unknown what he makes at USC as an assistant, a job he took recently Drew Cronic (Mercer) made an unknown salary, just took the OC job at Navy which does not disclose salaries Mo made $675k, in the upper half of the MAC. All of the above are coaches that have HC experience and would get a significant raise in accepting a UB HC job compared to their 2023 salary.

  20. IMO not sure there could be 3 worse collective candidates. I’ve been a contributor for 20+ years. If this is the vision they have for UB Football no sense in me contributing anymore bc they’ve stopped trying.

  21. I mean he is a great hire for what they hired to be, a recruiter for defense

  22. Got paid, stopped trying Ball State football coach Pete Lembo contract extended, pay raised $79,000 The Board approved a personnel report that included giving Lembo the title of associate athletic director, a contract extension and a $79,000 raise to set his salary at $475,000. Based on last year's contract information, that would put him in the upper echelon of coaching salaries in the Mid-American Conference, but the change in title will bring with it additional duties. Ball State coach Pete Lembo resigns, takes job on Maryland staff A Georgetown alumnus, Lembo coached at Lehigh and Elon before he was hired by the Cardinals ahead of the 2011 season. At Ball State, he compiled a 33-29 record and went 23-17 in the MAC. He led the Cardinals to consecutive winning seasons in 2012 and 2013, with Ball State going to bowl games in each. Lembo then signed a five-year contract extension following the 2013 season, but he has since experienced his two worst seasons, going 5-7 in 2014 and 3-9 this season.

  23. Coach Pickering has been very active on X promoting UB, so I think he wants to stay on!

  24. I'm starting to really warm to the idea of Kehres. If you're looking for Lance Leipold Part II, he probably most closely fits the bill there. . .

  25. People were laughing when I first brought up Brian Polian but I had outside sources telling me to keep his name in mind. I think it was clear from the beginning what type of coaches UB was interested in. The fact that all three of the above candidates have G5 head coaching experience doesn't surprise me. Mo didn't know what he was doing. They're looking for someone that has experience running a D1 program but don't have the budget to hire anyone that has an impressive resume so they're going after retreads.
