mikescherrer8
Josh Mballa having a great first 10 minutes. 5 points 4 rebounds.
SGBull
Yes, he isn't the best shooter, but he is shooting 33% this year, and he has to be at least willing to shoot threes so the D will play up on him and open up the drive.

Kevin
Looks like no Gabe Grant with Brock back in the lineup. Glad the coaches took note of that. 8 man bench in MAC play? No Grant/Nickleberry Edited January 4, 2020 by Kevin

My assumption for this specific game is that we are trailing so coach is sticking mainly to his starters. UBlearns
This first half has all the hallmarks of a game where you watch it and scratch your head saying "how are they not running away with this?", but German hits enough big shots and UB turns it over a couple too many times, and it's a one possession game late. Kevin
This team is just atrocious on defense by most advanced metrics.
Kevin
As I said for anyone who called this an easy win, German has beaten us on his own, and is by far the MAC's best player.
Ubbulls84
No help defense and just a lack of effort out there. NIU just wants the game more than UB right now. Whitesell deserves some blame here you already know what German does how are you not prepared for the screen game.
Kevin
Where is the energy on this team? This is terrible. NIU has also committed two breakaway fouls
SGBull
Shooting 11% from 3 and 50% from FT isn't going to get it done.

This team has decent size, length, and for the most part good defensive players. I blame the bad defense on coaching. They just play incredibly uninspired. DooleyBull06
This has become Dartmouth/Army all over again. FT shooting is atrocious. If we don’t turn this around we could start conference play 1-2 or 0-3.
Kevin
Whitesell has been terrible at home. No energy, no shooting, uninspired basketball. This is not how you start your first MAC half against a bad team.
UBlearns
Hard to find any fault with Mballa and Williams today. Gonna need someone else to step up in the second half.

The fault is on the defense for allowing 50% FG and 41 points to a team that scores 68 per game and is 290th in the country on offense and 244th in kenpom efficiency. Its now a theme and pattern with these performances against bad basketball teams at home.

Is this a similar defensive performance to that one?
DooleyBull06
No defense. NIU shooting 51.5% Poor 3pt shooting, we are 3-16. And we are 3-9 from the line. All need to change in the second half, especially the defense.

It just takes one good guard to win in the MAC, we are seeing that today with German.
mikescherrer8
My advice for this team by chucking up 3 pointers: don’t
mikescherrer8
Antwain Johnson, just continuing to be a waste of an offensive possession.
