  1. Good for her. She has been a class act and a great UB ambassador. UB is a good and very solid job for a proven, young and up and coming coach. I am hopeful we can fill the position quickly and create excitement. As others have stated, the additional immediate concern is the potential loss of both Fair and Woolley. We should not be surprised. It makes sense for both of them. Go Bulls

  2. They have been available for years. No one has stepped up to pay what they are looking to get for the naming rights. Want to put your name on something: http://bullsbwf.com/facility-naming-opportunities-2/ One other point on the money needed for anything. If you donate, thank you and you are part of the solution. If you do not donate and complain about a lack of money for anything in Athletics or any other part of UB you have two things to do. The first is look in the mirror, then either write a check or stop complaining.

  3. SMU is not a major program, but they probably doubled his salary to about $1mm and he's gone. It's the reality of mid majors with coaches cashing in. I absolutely dispise it all, but it's the reality. You get what you pay for in most cases and we are getting what we are paying for with Coach Whitesell. Mark Alnutt and his team needs to make fundraising and sponsorship their priority. Why haven't naming rights been sold to Alumni and UB stadium? Would love to know fundraising dollars for our athletics program compared to others (especially the MAC).

  4. It’s your money so obviously your call. But it’s part of the problem. The first speed bump and people bail. It’s why we can’t have nice things.

  5. I assumed similarly, since she was seen in the arena a few times this season. We shall see.

  6. FLJ raised the bar for the program. She’s likely the best coaching hire UB has made in the last 20 years. No ill will here - I wish her nothing but the best. Honestly I think she could win a National Championship at SU.

  7. Would not be surprised if it's Cherie Cordoba as next head coach. You heard it from me first.

  8. There are plenty of coaching options within budget. This wasn't a Whitesell or NAIA discussion. Heck, they hired a firm for no reason that they paid. There are plenty of coaches out there who will take 400k to head coach in a solid mid-major conference. There is no risk with the unknown, especially now. The risk is if you are worried about trading in Blocker for a reshuffle. I think it's worth it. Jared Grasso (head coach Bryant), Shaheen (~250k now) Steve Lavin (makes nothing as FOX analyst now) Desmond Oliver (ETSU) Dwayne Killings (Albany) ND's Antoni Wyche (up and coming) Tobin Anderson (head coach St. Thomas Aquinas) Gerry McNamara (up and coming) -

  9. I guess if he came here and took us to the tournament we would be back in the same spot. I guess we should get a booster base that can pony up $500k-$1 million for coach to be named. Just get the next rising coach, keep them 2-3 years then bring in the next. Hopefully we can recruit players that are cool with temporary coaches. Seems like a lot of MAC coaches hang around a while even if they don’t win anything. Others like Ohio, etc are taking the leap knowing they will lose the guy, probably next year in that case. It puts a huge burden on the AD, but I think that may be the only way to sustain at the mid-major level. Ala Hurley and Oats, you almost need to stock you assistant coaches with the “next one” if you can harness that, but it’s a major commitment from some mastermind.

  10. Time for the university to invest into our athletics. Across all sports.

  11. Ball State to hire Michael Lewis. Lewis has strong ties to the state as a former Indiana player. In addition, he has spent 18 seasons as an assistant coach, including the last three at UCLA. Lewis played at IU under head coach Bob Knight from 1996-2000, served as a graduate assistant for Knight for two seasons at Texas Tech. Based on what I can tell seems like a solid hire.
