2024 Transfer Portal

Figured we should have a thread for guys who are both leaving in the portal and entering from the portal. To start, so far QB Cole Snyder, WR Marlyn Johnson, DE Kameron Olds, DL Michael Tetteh, LB Shaun Dolac, LB Kyler Laing and S Chandler Brown have entered the portal. The biggest losses, in my opinion, are Dolac, Johnson and Snyder

The team was 3-9 this year.  A lot has to change between now and next season to even think this team will be any better.

3 players on All MAC (excluding Special Teams), with only 2 returning at this point (Grant and Doty) is not a great foundation to build on.

I couldn't name offensive player that showed explosive ability, and not a QB that can lead the team to a Championship Game in the MAC.

Really have to question the Recruiting Rankings in Group of 5.

3 star out of HS, from Ypsilanti, so back closer to home. Didn’t see any stats for last year so maybe redshirt.

Losing our 4th 2022 recruit in Cameron Ball. 3-star TE. This is just painful to watch. Now we are trying to backfill about 30 people and hope the current commits decide to stay. You can’t win many games with freshman playing (see UBMBB). Program stability is key, but that is really hard these days. If you lose they leave, if you win they leave.

College football now has 40% roster turnover a year, between the seniors and transfers.  Hard to image that doesn't impact the quality of the product on the field.

This is just what the coaches deal with now until someone finds a way to slow down the portal entries.

Has to be extra tough because you don't really know what you are trying to recruit until mid-December at this point. I guess that's why they get paid the big bucks.

I saw one interview with a P5 coach and he said they prefer being a players 2nd or even 3rd team.  They don't even want to be the 1st team anymore, because they want experience and not having to develop every guy on the team.

The number of players who end up nowhere or in lower divisions, where the never wanted to play has been high the last few years.  When the payers realize they may never play again at the FBS level they will start to stay and play.  IT will take time for the see to the numbers as this has just started.  After a few years the experience of time will helpful bringing this to an end.

Do you think there is a website where these portal guys get their ridiculous thank you and appreciation letters announcing they are going in the portal like the resume builders? They all seem to be pretty stock and just add a few names and accomplishments like Mad Libs.

I suppose that's a positive. It's also a new coaching staff so he can try to carve out his role and everyone will be in the same boat trying to impress the coaching staff. I wish him well, hopefully he can make it to the next level.
