Also, I think this is another indictment about Mo and hopefully good news about Pete and the culture he’s creating.4 points

If they liked him before, they don't care. It's not like he went to Akron or another Mac school Most players would understand he was doing what he thought was best for his future4 points

Excellent performance from UB commit Tim Oboh. Hopefully this bodes well for his future with the Bulls.3 points

I think Red Murdock may have something to say about that. The dude has been all over the field.3 points

Another QB in the mix out of the Portal from Old Dominion. Not stellar stats, but former 3 star recruit from Virginia. See how this plays out.2 points

Holy crap! I don't care what level you are at, but those are impressive stat lines! Also, I'm assuming that ball he is holding is not regulation size, right? 🤣 Looking forward to seeing what he can do with our Bulls!2 points

The roster has been updated on the UB website: https://ubbulls.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster Noah Batchelor listed at 6'8" 210lbs, up from 6'6" 185lbs at Maryland. His size was the same his freshman year, so his sophomore profile may never have been updated? If he's a legit 6'8" that gives me more confidence in his ability to play the 4 Armani Mighty listed at 6'10" 240lbs which matches his BC profile Tyson Dunn listed at 6'3" which matches his Western Ontario profile1 point

I sure hope the NIL collective isn't petty if they don't like a coach and take it out on the student athletes by withholding money for the players1 point

I’m no expert in analyzing coaches or prospects, nothing like that, but I really like the way coach handles this team. I know they’ve had troubles in the beginning with being tough, but she’s always been consistent and honest about her expectations. She expects everything out of her players and in return she gives everything from herself. Love the social media presence and the winning mindset. Definitely building a culture and identity, something men’s basketball has lacked1 point

Save your breath, it's no different than the group that wanted JW out the door on day 1. It will play out how it plays out. If there is NIL money available for MBB it should be used. As for spending on the Coach, we had the chance to parlay a larger buyout from Oats into a different coaching option and increase the baseline pay of our MBB Coach. We didn't do that and went the safe route, so we are back to square one (I'm not talking about hiring BH, we could have gotten a good D1 ready coach with HC experience and increased the pay to say $750k). Difference now is we have a collective, so it should be used. If GH3 and staff fail again this season, then there should be serious consideration to moving on from him. If he gets near .500 then I think you stick it out and see what Season 3 looks like. Time will tell and I will be rooting hard for their success. It should also be noted that we likely lost out on 2-3 potential coaching candidates due to our lack of NIL. GH3 was talking NIL to the administration since day 1, it got a zap in the ass when Lembo was hired (I guarantee that was part of the negotiations for him to take this job). So now here we are, what are we going to do with it and who is going to support the cause?1 point

I like how Burke and staff are showing growth and setting expectations. The roster they have now should be enough to be legit contenders to win either MAC regular season or conference championship maybe both this coming season. I hope they get a corporate sponsor for NIL money to flow into the program🤘1 point

I hate to be negative but I watched full game tape on Oboh and he does not look like a D1 prospect at all. The competition he plays is terrible, he plays out of control and has poor footwork. His FIBA stats against real competition showed inefficiency (shooting 31% inside the paint) and averaged 2 turnovers per game as a big man. Just seems like he relies on being bigger, stronger and more athletic than his competiton1 point

No knock on Jo Smith, but Oboh looks like he could be a stronger, more physical force down low than we’ve had the past couple years. We’ll have to wait and see how his talent translates to the MAC. 🤘1 point

Jack Shields from ODU is transferring to UB. This per his X account that has re-Xed by multiple UB Football staff and Paul Peck. https://odusports.com/sports/football/roster/season/2023/player/jack-shields1 point

I thought this was a nice article and love that GH3 was complimentary of Calvin and he’s leaving on a positive note and can be closer to family. Hopefully the new guy can bring something to the table: https://ubbulls.com/news/2024/5/2/mens-basketball-mens-basketball-announces-coaching-addition-and-changes.aspx1 point

So I’m guessing he didn’t actually get any NIL so at best he made a lateral move to follow someone that didn’t know he was on thin ice. Poor decision making at many levels1 point

Here's a look at the official collective numbers from last year for all of the MAC programs: https://nil-ncaa.com/mac/ This breaks it down P5 vs. G5: https://nil-ncaa.com/ The MAC is super far behind their G5 peers: https://nil-ncaa.com/group5/1 point

That’s a bummer. This was the only UB basketball that was worth watching these days.1 point

I know that suggesting that conference administrators might actually care and pay attention, is risky. Having said that, I have to believe that when they strike the schedule, they will allow UMass to keep a "PayDay" game....flip a coin whether it's Mizzou or Caitlyn's alma mater,...........1 point

Certainly, we cannot cater to everyone's needs and we shouldn't. It's important to evaluate programs that are not graduating students. Specifically, what are the expenses related to salaries, benefits, and legacy costs for such programs, and what return on investment (ROI) can be attributed to them?1 point

"NIL" is simply another word for buying players. These guys/gals are simply pros now. The idea of "amateur" is long gone within college athletics. Those with the most $$ will win over time. They'll become the Yankees, dodgers, etc, while we'll not even be the Pirates, but will be closer to the Bisons, sadly. Since there is no salary cap, it's nothing less than a free for all at the schools with the deepest pockets of donors.1 point
