This is in no way disrespectful to the soccer student-ahtletes. It's just a fact that it doesn't draw many fans, and LAX likely wouldn't either. Of course it wouldn't draw fans. I never said it would. But it would be a competitive team. Buffalo recruits students from WNY and Long Island which are two areas that are good at LAX. UB has to add a men's team if they drop football. Right now they are at the D1 minimum number of sports. So they would be adding a sport that wouldn't blow through money like football does and would be competitive.

ChubbyHubby
I guess my point was, while football costs a lot of money, it also brings in a lot to help offset the cost. LAX would cost a lot less, but wouldn't bring in much at all. Would the net $ be better with LAX than football. I'm guessing not.

I agree though, they aren't cutting football. Ice hockey is too expensive and doesn't draw fans. People who like hockey in Buffalo follow the Sabres. Except for the fact that they aren't state flagships and they are low budget schools. Not to mention the fact that upstate NY is filled with college hockey teams. I am not saying that UB LAX would be as good as Albany. I am simply saying that it would be more successful nationally than if UB added ice hockey, baseball, or soccer. And it doesn't cost too much for a program.
MillenniumBull
No cutting football. But cut coaches salaries and only play the minimum home games. Send the team on the road for $$. Stop paying for the hope of bowl eligibility. When it happens, it happens. We will have more fun without the risk of buyers remorse.

RecoveringHillbilly
I had brought up this recording of our 1993 home game with UMASS up in another thread. There were great quotes from Calipari post-game that would fit in how, he as an A-10 coach, saw UB's potential to grow as a program starting at the 1 hour 57 mark: https://soundcloud.com/user-125347718/umass-buffalo-02181993 Calipari, "How about Buffalo in the Atlantic 10?" He nailed it. Not a lot of $ support for over a decade, the Big A a nice building with nice upgrades over 30 seasons of D1, and we draw when successful. The America East wouldn't accept us but Calipari would! But at that time we had only just moved FB from D3 to 1AA, football was just a minor factor until a MAC invite 2 years later changed that.
