NIU comes in at 4-10, rankings in 300+ range.  This is a game that UB needs to find a way to win.  If they play hard like they did against Ohio - UB should prevail.

Need to start fast and set the tone. Can’t take any team for granted. Should be a solid win.

Just got to start stacking wins, build confidence and momentum

When I looked on ESPN recently, we are project as over 50% likely to win the next 4 games I believe. Then we have the gauntlet of Toledo at home, then road games against Ball St and Kent St, followed by Akron at home. If we could be 5-0 or 4-1 going into Toledo, that would be awesome. Gotta start with taking care of business on Saturday.

Excited to attend a second game this week and see us stack another MAC win.

OT but I didn't want to start a new thread about it. I acquired this ticket in good condition from a 1972 Aud doubleheader - UB vs. Niagara and Canisius vs. Manhattan. A friend's bookstore has a stash of old pro and college tickets and programs (and an amazing selection of rare Buffalo books and ephemera - Fitz Books on Ellicott downtown, highly recommend stopping in.) Does anyone know anything about those games or teams? UB was 12-12 that season under Ed Muto. Student ticket, only $1.25!

So far found the following links:

Niagara beat UB 96 - 76; leading scorer for Niagara was Marshall Wingate and leading rebounder was Cleve Royster

Canisius beat Manhattan 88 - 86

Gives you a little bit of start

That was my senior year at Canisius. The Griffs were 15 - 10.

That was Bob MacKinnon’s final year as Griff’s coach. The schedule speaks for itself. The 15 - 10 record must include a few garbage games…and they lost 11, not 10.

Looking at Canisius and Niagara team stats for that season, interesting that they were 46th and 47th nationally in ppg both at 83.8, with Canisius just percentage pts ahead of Niagara who went 21-9. Must have been some high scoring teams that year, nowadays those would be good for top 10 or 15.

Especially since combined they hit 0 three point shots the entire season, combined.

Good point. Looks like they made up for it in part with more FTs as Niagara averaged 20 makes per game and Canisius 18.

Oral Roberts led NCAA in scoring for ‘71-72 season at 105ppg, and tying back into this game thread….NIU playing as an Independent was 3rd at 95.2, one slot ahead of the national champs UCLA.

Anyone have a basic scouting report on NIU? I'm going in pretty blind. I remember Keshawn Williams from last year but that's about it.

Basic scouting with admittedly limited effort.  They are ranked 300+ on ranking sites I looked at.

Statistical summary from barttorvik

A lot of red / pink showing they are near bottom of D1 in many categories.  Here is some team stats.

Women's Basketball vs Central Michigan today at Alumni Arena, 2:30pm, ESPN+

Second game of doubleheader, women looking for their first MAC win after nearly taking down Kent State earlier this week

If they play as well, they should come out on top. I see UB east is doing well. Seems like we had a top tier ACC squad after all. Looking forward to seeing Coach Burke’s version over the next few years.
