If Whitesell should get dismissed, would anyone pony up for round 2 of Bobby?

I would. You know he would bring some energy.

I don't see Hurley as the guy that comes back to a school or will move down to a lower league if fired

Strikes me as a guy that would go be an assistant at a power school to try and rehab his image

Last year we watched the games and thought, "they're going to be really good next year."  And it hasn't happened yet.  They have guys that can put up big points, but it doesn't seem to come together enough.  I fully understand that basketball is a game of runs, but too often they've started slow and had to dig out of holes.  Just like last year's team, they miss the shots at the end that decide the game.  All too often this team gets open shots and simply misses them.  That tells me the plays work as designed, they're just not finishing them off.

Graves - he's good, but he's not CJ.  He's no better or worse than a year ago.
Hardnett - like in a lot of these games, the Bulls have someone who steps up off the bench and contributes well.  We're waiting for some of them to do so more consistently.  Nice game tonight.
Segu - I thought his defense was all over the place at times tonight
Mballa and inside players - Ohio was able to do too much under the basket, they have to box out and own that space

I get the feeling right now the same as I did after the Turner Battle teams.  We thought it would just keep going along like that, and in hindsight you recognize what was special.  It wasn't just about the talent - this team has the talent - it was about that ability to make plays when it matters.  They're good, but not great.  They still fold up down the stretch.  They still miss the open shots.  Last year I thought they would get a lot better; right now I wonder, maybe they are what they are, and it's up to the next batch of players to see if they're up to being better than just good.

To the people who asked why there's not as much activity here - maybe I'm not the best person to comment, because I've largely stopped coming here as it's gotten to be miserable at times.  (We're all too cranky after seeing so many good things in the past 5 years).  But I find that I haven't followed the team as much this year.  Without being able to go, it's not as fun, and I don't even usually know when the next game is.  My brother texted me that it was on after it started, I didn't even think of it.  The stop-start nature of the season so far hasn't lent itself to any momentum, good or bad, for the team or fans.

Bobby’s best asset is recruiting. But he received big time help from Oats. I’m not sure he’s a big improvement on or off the bench.

Remember when we had one of the longest winning streaks at home in the country?? It wasn’t that long ago, but it feels like an eternity with the lack of pride and effort on home court. Ohio not good was not impressed w then it was just our lack of execution once again.

32-4! Finished # 15 in the country. I fear we’ll never see anything similar to that again at UB.

What wins, Nickelback's turnovers or points? its tied currently 4-4

I'd be on board with calling him "Nickelback" from now on lol.

It's just gotten ridiculous with the close losses at this point, we know it's gonna go wrong somehow at the end and the team seems to think the same. Gets harder every time to imagine us winning the MAC tourney with what would most likely be 3 tight games when we can't even win one in the regular season.

0-6 when games go to OT or decided by 8 points or less. Also 0-5 when taking/having a lead under 4 minutes left.

Either Whitesell has no idea how to run a set play at the end of a game or he did but our players play one on one and don’t listen to him. Either way this is troubling and disappointing for sure.

Whitesell's post-game quote on the play is pure Pollyanna. I get supporting your guys but it's not about Segu's shot anymore. FLG tweeted how hard Segu works and her emotions that he missed it, and fans get that.  But it is about the lack of a proper PLAY prepped for that situation.

"I liked him shooting that shot, any time. And a million times more. He will make that shot. It'll fall. He just missed it tonight."

Completely agree. Don’t blame Segu at all in that situation he had to throw up shot at that point. But it was a 1 point game, they didn’t need a 3. They had plenty of time over 10 seconds left and the fact they weren’t prepped properly for that situation was clear. Frustrating watching these games and knowing they will blow the game at the end even when they took the lead..

I'm not mad at Segu. It was a little further than I think it should have been but I would have done the same thing if I was him and we had no play called. I still don't know why the team isn't drawing up plays that have a 70% 2pt FG percent chance over ones that have 30-40%.

For me it's the coaching down the stretch. How do you not attack Preston the entire last 8 minutes? Pick and roll him. He can't play defense and you want to catch him in a switch against Williams or Mballa. It didn't even happen once.

It's ridiculous. He's an NBA draft pick and we had the chance to bounce him out of the game, which would have crippled their offense. Why aren't we attacking him? Whitesell just doesn't DO anything. Sitting right behind him last year at Alumni, he's the least active coach I've ever seen.

I'm also very much done with one-move (spin into travel/turnover) Graves late in games.

100% regarding Preston. I was thinking exact same thing. Preston not a great defender and over aggressive. Was shocked they kept him in game with 8 minutes left. Boals probably knew Whitesell can’t coach and would not try to attack him. He should have paid for that mistake but nope, no strategy whatsoever. Just typical. Whitesell has to also teach these guys to shoot free throws. Ohio barely missing while we’re lucky if we get 1 of 2 every time at the line. Besides Segu, no one a consistent ft shooter.

I’m watching BG vs Toledo. It’s a close game. The Bulls should make the MAC tournament, should it actually be played. As poorly as they have played so far, it is possible that the Bulls could win a couple of games and then find itself in a championship game. Reasons to doubt that will happen: poor foul shooting, poor 3 point shooting, no killer instinct and no go-to man in the clutch. And while I was typing Toledo has gone up by 12.

I'm sure he tells the players not to practice them. He probably tells them to not play D and turn the ball over too. "C'mon man".

If I recall, this was something that'd be complained about with prior coaches too.
