NIL and it's relation to wins

The UB Football players setup an NIL Club. You basically commit to a monthly cost and then you get access to information. There are currently 81 players included in this.

That's the closest thing I've seen. Actual content is pretty limited. A few recent player posts, etc. but that's to be expected. They really need someone to help them create content, etc. but that may come in the future. A communications grad student or something would even be helpful with that.

That is because a school cannot seek NIL money.  It has to be sought by a private group (collective) and not the school.  If the school raises the money it is a NCAA violation.

A collective has been set up. https://ubbulls.com/sports/2022/7/26/ub-name-image-likeness-program-built-in-buffalo

This is a naive response.

Let's take, for example, TAMU.

TAMU hires a guy to manage NIL.   https://12thman.com/staff-directory/jamie-wood/2188

Advancement has donors that give money to TAMU, unspecified (of course), but those go to this position.   And this (new) position manages NIL.   I don't know that for sure, but these are how things happen.  In this instance, TAMU is prioritizing NIL (so much so, they made a position for this).

By the way TAMU is just one (outlier) example.

Here is a breakdown of the 4 biggest NIL deals in college football right now, led by Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders.
  • 1) Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders - $4.8 Million. ...
  • 2) Texas QB Arch Manning - $2.8 Million. ...
  • 3) USC QB Caleb Williams - $2.7 Million. ...
  • 4) Colorado WR/CB Travis Hunter - $2.3 Million.

If Khalil Mack was a high school senior today, would he still opt for Buffalo? How long would he stay? The top professional athletes earn more than their coaches. When will the top college athletes earn more than their coaches? I can’t wait for that.

Could NIL be ruled unconstitutional because of the disparity in compensation? Title IX.

No, because the Constitution does not govern Title IX.

Title IX is a statutory scheme that covers among other entities educational institutions that receive federal money.  If a school gave out NIL money, they would most likely be required to do so with the proportions required by Title IX.  A private entity that does not receive federal funding is not subject to Title IX.  That means that Dunkin', that is currently running ads with a number of women athletes, can spend in any proportion they want to spend and Title IX would not be an issue.

Don’t forget to give some of your money to the women athletes, who aren’t keeping up in $$ with their male counterparts.

From what I know, especially with that top girl, they are basically Instagram models at this point. I don't think any of their $$ are for their athletic ability TBH.

To the first part, he still comes here because if you recall he didn't have any buzz or offers really at all.

As far as staying, thats another thing. Although he didn't really have the buzz til his senior year (Junior year on the map)

I am calling BS on the stadium as why people are not going to UB games.

I would agree the stadium does not deter me from going. Granted I live and work within a stonesthrow from the stadium. However I always catch at least 1 game per year without a thought to how bad my seat will be.

But yes a nicer newer facility would certainly appeal to some. Its just definitely not keeping 10k people away.

Might want to re-phrase this. They are D1 athletes in major conferences, so to say that none of the NIL is for their athletic ability is false. They wouldn't be in the position they're in now if not for their athletic ability.

Also, this is voluntary thing for each school. We can absolutely stay in Div 1 but simply not offer this benefit. Plenty of our peers won’t be able to afford/offer this either.

When will Alnutt do his job and facilitate the establishment of a collective. Its abundantly clear the other universities ADs in the conference are "encouraging" donors, alumni and sponsors to pool resources to be competitive for H.S. and talent from the portal. I get you still have to coach players up but to be competitive against other Mid Majors, P6 schools and more importantly conference rivals  we need the talent which having a solid NIL and collective infrastructure in place will help. The flip side is stay complacent watch as teams beat the breaks off our teams, complain about the talent gap and when players develop then transfer to schools that offer the academics and the compensation.

Interesting comment in hindsight.

So does Burke demand UB buy her a new star through the transfer portal once Watson graduates? And does she quit if they don't?

This sounds very much like a "either he goes or I go" threat with regards to Alnutt.

Confused? My comments was about the AD/President working to establish collectives to bring UB athletics on par w/the rest of the MAC in regards to NIL which as of today its not. Not sure why your comments on WBB but priority should be the football team specifically getting Lembo QB and DL help...

When you state the rest of the MAC is ahead of UB where are you getting that information. I agree I worry about Alnutt and this admistration not putting their time in for the NIL to promote our athletes and get them to want to stay.

UT, Ohio,BG,Ball St all have collectives three of which played in bowl games. The amount of money generated I have no clue but the fact they are there implies a commitment to this new era NIL in athletics which ii sure most agree is needed.

I pay into this each month, it was setup by the football players. Some have since dropped out due to graduation or transfer. https://nilclub.com/buffalo/football

Not sure if there is anything else official.
