There's a rumor flying around (one that I'm starting right now) that he chose his initials for this very reason.

If VaTech ended up opening up...I would bet Oats takes that interview in person if asked.

UB85
UNLV was never an option. A slight bump in pay but not basketball. The oats family was never going to sin city. Nebraska no way. And same for Virginia tech.
961819
I’m just really not sure what else Oats needs to do to make people realize he loves Buffalo and doesn’t view it as a stepping stone to the next big pay day. He’s said and done all the right things, unless he goes against everything he’s led us to believe about him, I think we found another Mark Few

Guess we gotta keep proving them wrong.

hurley
So sad 😞 I can't even be mad at him. Thank you to Nate Oats and everything he has done for Buffalo!

UBigbobby
Can't pass up Alabama. Much better job than Arkansas or Nebraska. Alabama has all the resources in the world to build a national power in basketball. Sad to see him go and see UB fall back to the pack in the MAC again, but, damn...I would have taken that job and I'm a Buffalo guy. hurley
Please please please hire Bryan Hodgson immediately and keep this team intact. Graves please stay with us!
squire17
Wow! Never would have expected Alabama. Johnson got only two years after they let Grant go. Good luck, Coach Oats! You’re going to need it.
bull_trojan
I got the first word in, cause I was literally writing a "no tempting job exists for Oats" post. He's from Wisconsin, I did not think he'd go deep south. Oh well if history holds and his successor exceeds him 4 years later, I hopefully look forward to Hodgson beating Oats' Tide in the 2023 2nd round to get *back* to the Sweet 16.

I wonder what this will do for our incoming players. Ugh!
squire17
Can’t blame Oats. Johnson was making $2.9 mil...and he was fired after 2 years. I would expect a bump to over $3 mil per year not counting incentives. Good for him. Just wish he would have stayed a couple more years here. DooleyBull06
Great expectations will be placed on Nate. We know what that means...if he doesn’t win tournament games he will get fired.
everlast2504
And I just read an article last night about how P5 schools may be getting shy about hiring these young gun mid-major coaches. Alabama was their primary example.

True, but I’ll bet there won’t be many who turn on Oats like they turned on Bobby - including me, though I always thought Hurley was arrogant and a jerk.
